  1. What a game in Spain, Espanyol-Rayo Vallecano, 2 RC in the first 30 minutes, both teams with 10 on the field. Couple of YC as well

    1. To be mentioned Hamburger SV - Darmstadt as well (referee Robert Schroeder), with three red cards, this should be quite a record for German football at high level, I remember once the words by Philipp on the blog, about the fact that more than two RC is something almost never seen in Germany...

    2. There was even a 4th RC for Hamburg's sports director.

    3. Never seen so heated match in Germany. 4 RC in one half. Absolutely correct each one of them

    4. Very good decisions. Also the YC for Holland in minute 64. And i see so often sports directors send off or misconduct that i dont understand that there sitting on the bench in Germany.

    5. Not special to Germany, but really wish there was a genuine clampdown on players not leaving when given a RC and others running from distance to surround/jostle the referee every time a card comes out. They know it’s being checked by VAR anyway.

  2. Mariani seems to be ready, after so many games as Category 1, for his CL debut. Possible to see him already on early matchdays.
Normal assignments with in my opinion regular observers for: Massa, Schaerer, Letexier, Ekberg and Gil Manzano.
Then one must mention Jovanovic with Kassai, but the Hungarian is new in this role and he has to make experience as observer, nevertheless, very big name and we can think already with a big trust by committee. To follow, definitely with more important observers than the previous mentioned: Osmers (Trefoloni), Visser (Vassaras), Kabakov (Plautz). I think that regarding the Bulgarian is an attempt to trust him again after a poor period.

    1. Yes. His games are going good this season but this is a final test before group stage. Hope he is going good again and regain confidence. He is very good referee.

  3. Despite this being just a normal appointment, why should Ekberg assigned to Chisinau, Moldova. I think he is already become Danny Makkelie 2.0 because in the previous round he also flew all the way to Baku, Azerbaijan.

  4. Just watched the crucial incidents of Espanyol - Rayo with Figueroa Vázquez and I must say that I don't like how he manages the players. It looks he has a quite hectical style, that can only contribute to make things worse than they really are. Very agitated: authoritarian and not authoritative as it should be.

    1. I had the same thought after watching the images

  5. Direct RC after OFR. I think they took the decision with perception because this images are not very clear

    1. Yeah I'm not really sure how they came to the decision of a red card cuz from what I've seen I'd suggest a yellow at most

    2. Yes, even more, the angle that the referee was watching on OFR was like this. A bit zoomed but still not conclusive that it is a mandatory RC and not YC, IMO

  6. Why we couldn' see the RLO's except a few one?

  7. The game in Edinburgh will likely be intense for Visser. Hearts narrowly behind and chasing the tie. Tynecastle is notoriously intimidating as a stadium, perhaps the closest stands to the pitch anywhere in Europe. Likely to be a capacity crowd.

Unless Zurich score early it will be a challenging match

  8. Sidiropoulos? No game ?

    1. Don't expect any game for him after his performance in Rangers - St. Gilloise

    2. Can you provide details, nikart?

  9. OT: CL draw

    - Porto and Atletico M. together in group B again. What a coincidence :)
    - Bayern - Barca meet again
    - Group H could be very tough for every referee IMO

    1. Yep, just like what’s been discussed. PSG and Italian team in one group

  10. Any clip of Osmers' decisive late PK given to Ludogorets?

  11. Big game in Edinburgh for Visser who’s started fairly well but not sure about YC given to Hearts’ Jorge Grant in minute 18

    1. In minute 54 he received a second yellow card.

    2. second yellow well deserved, brave call to make some refs would have let it go but to me it looks like a dive worthy of a booking unfortunate as his first booking was soft

    3. Very good and brave decision, 2YC for diving.

  12. Very harsh - too harsh - second YC by Stagemann in Nice. During ET, for this, not necessary…

    1. things appear to be getting heated in ET?

  13. I'm looking for a video of the penalty by Osmers, very crucial, but I can't find anything.

05:20, Supportable decision, in my opinion the defender is late in his action, but there isn't a direct contact with attacker who is anyway impeded in his action and a whistle is justified.

    2. For me, it's not a penalty!
It looks like a very soft one, to decide the match and group stage partecipation.

  14. Performance of Jovanovic in Turkey?

    1. Very stable and very good management in hot atmosphere. Crucial decision in very beginning of the match and disallow Malmo goal for handball. AR1 very good decision with offside and disallow goal for Malmo as well. Good job by Serbian crew in Sivass.

  15. Was at the Hearts v Zurich game in person tonight. Fair play to Visser, 2nd yc looks completely correct. Other than that I did feel he was slightly swayed by the atmosphere and wasn't massive convincing.

  16. Don't know if this has been shared before but surely a good thing for English refereeing moving forward.

  17. I can report very good performances by Italian and Bulgarian teams in Cyprus yesterday. Full control in both games by Massa and Kabakov in not easy atmosphere on the stadiums.
