  2. OT:Cypriot and Croatian committees signed the referee exchange agreement for this season.

Also it has been reported that such agreement is/will be signed with Danish FA, meaning that we will have referees from different countries in domestic leagues, especially interesting in Croatia and Cyprus since there is a huge pressure on referees

  3. Again we saw very entertaining Getafe match, this time against Bilbao and it was pretty eventful:

    https://youtu.be/CLi_A28yr0k?si=o37DqvCqs71Sj2gZ

    1)p1:20

RC ,very clear for me,VAR also agreed with Diaz de Mera.

    2)02:48

There I have to give some context.
So ball goes out,Bilbao want to start attack Getafe player pulls muscle injury out of bounds and by Bordalas' instructions he gets on the pitch and lays there before Bilbao can start attack.

Of course,Bilbao players were furious, small altercation happened but the result was 3 YC's-Williams,Garcia Alderete and RC to Bordalas.

If Simeone and Mourinho had child,I think that Bordalas would be their son, cause he is ciach that is combination of both.

Diaz had quite alright performace, all bookings were justified, maybe 1 or 2 cards could have been shown to Getafe players for their persistency in foul8ng,but alright job by Diaz de Mera.

Really liking him and his style as ref.

    1. I'm quite sad to remember that he hasn't been selected to be FIFA listed, as he is a very solid, no-nonsense referee. He would have deserved the badge more than both Muniz Ruiz and Alberola Rojas, IMO.

    2. Also very eventful game for hernandez hernandez Yesterday in Valencia.
11 yc and one of them was the Second one for Val Player Just before halftime.
Since then Valencia players were complaining a lot and sociedad Player were fouling a lot. But in my opinion hh did quite a good job
You can also name hin a "no-nonsense" ref i would say

      Delete
    3. Agree better than Muñiz Ruiz but becase Muñiz Ruiz has low low level, but, Alberola Rojas is top 3 in la league, better than De Mera

      Delete
    4. In no particular order I can name just a few that are better than Rojas,even De Mera is better imo ;

      Manzano,Sanchez,Hernandez,Munuera,Munuera Montero,Cuadra,Grado...

      Delete
    5. Grado better? The one with the Getafe Barca match? Dont make me laugh. That was one of the worst performances ive ever seen. Even Sanchez in Eindhoven was better

      Delete
    6. If that's the case,if we judge by 1 match, then Cakir the best ever for his performance in Madrileno 2017.

  4. OT: US Open Cup Miami-Houston final.

Surprised by Freemon's level, fouls called correctly, with 3 early cards he ensured good control of the match.
Well sanctioned penalty with card included, great physical condition and presence on the field.
The FIFA badge is a great possibility for 2024, I would be surprised if he didn't get it.

    1. A referee liked by Rocchi. In past, he had the chance to follow a certain development, but he failed some crucial games at the beginning of last season. Still, Rocchi sees him clearly ahead of many other referees, and when possible, appoints him in serie A, as you can see. Now in good form, it is possible that maybe he will get more. 1988 born (35 years old), he is now in the exact moment in which his career can follow the decisive (either positive or disappointing) path. He is an excellent runner, very likely the serie A referee with this best skill among the others. I think that basically he can be a very good referee but maybe not a real top.

  6. Some interesting fixtures coming up in Group H (EURO 2024)

    -Slovenia 13 pts
    -Denmark 13 pts
    -Finland 12 pts
    -Kazakhstan 12 pts

Interesting enough, it took some time before the Refcom assigned the match officials for Slovenia-Finland. At least 2 days later than for the other games.

Did Mr. Ceferin have to approve the assignment himself?^^

    1. If you are not making this up - how would anyone outside the Refcom and Ref administration know about the timing of confidental appointments?

      Delete
    2. The referee observer of Slovenia-Finland was announced 2 days later than the observer of other games.

Don’t you think the referee team and observer are assigned as ‘one set’? Frankly, I thought they are. The referees of UCL games receive the appointment 2 weeks before the game (just the date and competition, not the exact game). The observers are also announced on uefa.com 2 weeks before the game. It can be a coincidence, but it seems, there was some discussion about this specific game. Which doesn’t surprise me, given the importance of the game, and some political powers within UEFA. I don’t have to mention the ‘Cakir incident’, do I?

    3. Kazakhstan's matches are not as important as those of the other three mentioned teams, in my opinion: As the winner of group C3 in the Nations League, Kazakhstan is assured of at least a play-off spot even if they will lose each of the remaining four matches.

      Delete
    4. Agree Peter. And I expect that the games between the clear number 1-2 in group do not have Top Elites in the middle. The top elites will manage the games between numbers 2-3-4. And Slovenia’s group.

      Examples: Spain-Scotland (Rosetti), Netherlands-France (Borbalan), Portugal-Slovakia (Garibian)

  7. There is a huge risk that the PGMOL will lose the services of our two top referees to the new Saudi League. Michael Oliver and Anthony Taylor will I am sure receive an approach to take on a full time officiating on the new League. £500k will be difficult to turn down.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. like so many other top nations...poland would lose marciniak, italy would lose orsato, makkelie in netherlands, brych in germany...the circus league needs some directors...but given the players earn so much, i would rather say they could charge the saudis a lot more than the 500k...

    2. The only thing they can hold over refs is their spot on the FIFA panel. But you don't get that long at the top of the ref world and setting up you and your family might be worth not going to the World Cup (and UEFA comps?).

    4. I dont know about you ,I did not watch the whole match, but from bits that I saw he was too inconsistent.

I'mnot gonna say that he was plotting against Porto, but it was one criterium for Benfica and the other criterium for Porto.

There was a chance that macth could boil over and be RC fest, but he succesfully stopped that in dying minutes with his quick reaction.

Added time needs to improve,he gave 6 addit.minutes and should have added another 2 cause plenty things happened in those 6 minutes.

  9. I think direction and distance in first are for red and in second situation more for yellow. Both situations never var. Soares Dias (VAR) put Pinheiro in trouble, but him solve very well.

  10. DOGSO RC by Pinheiro in the Portuguese Clásico.

For me it's a fully correct decision by Pinheiro, as just after touching the ball the defender lifts his leg to trip the attacker as the ball went rebounded in direction to goal. DOGSO FK outside the area, RC.

Match before tonight Godinho had problems with them,12 YC's1 Rc and problematic behaviour by Conceicao.

If these 2 will have close race fir the title,2nd match between them must go to Soares Dias,no one else.

    5. "When the criterium is the same, there are mistakes and that's normal. I make mistakes, my players too, the opponent too. Last year at Dragao, Eustachio was sent off for trampling, and tonight Galeno was also trampled... Fabio Cardozo hit the ball and then the player, I would also understand Trubin's penalty, because he also first threw himself and got the ball, and then brought down Taremi. Within the same criteria, it would be acceptable, but we are ready for this Benfica and all the other opponents. There are still 27 games left and we are ready we are for all the unfavorable situations that await us, although we have benefited from some of them. I regret it, because in these games it was important to come out with a victory, especially because we deserved it because of the way we entered the match and the way we prepared it. Even the players who debuted in the Clasico gave a positive response. I know it's hard for everyone that we were left without three points, but I think we won a lot more today than we lost, honestly...", said Sergio Conceição at the post-match conference.

If the coach of Porto managed to refrain from more heated comments, his teammates did not. Not even the experienced Pepe, who was not even in the protocol due to injury. The legendary defender took to social network X (or Twitter, whichever you prefer), posting a picture of a circus and clown masks. Wendel, one of the best individuals of the game, took to Instagram, writing: "Against everything and everyone. Shame. What are they doing to Porto...". On the same social network, Galeno announced: "Proud of this group. Everything is normal, as always", adding, among other things, an emoticon with a closed mouth.

Iker Casillas, the legendary Spanish goalkeeper, who wore the Porto jersey for four seasons, also commented on the bad refereeing.

"My mother, the ref...", the Spaniard briefly but clearly wrote what he thought about Joao Pinheiro's performance. However, he didn't manage to control himself and stop there, instead he wrote on one of the Instagram posts on the official Porto page: "The referees always f..Porto!" and "The Disastrous Ref".

    6. It's safe to say that Porto did not like Pinheiro's performance at all:

      This is the situation Porto's coach is talking about;

    7. @M, just because Porto may have not liked Pinheiro's performance, it doesn't mean it was bad.

Red card for Cardoso is absolutely spot on. He denies an obvious goal scoring opportunity. All 4 considerations for DOGSO apply: distance to goal, general direction of play (ball is heading right into the goal), number of defenders (no Porto defenders between Neres and the goal) and control or likelihood to regain control (Neres was going to keep possession of the ball).

Concerning the second potential DOGSO situation, again, correct decision by Pinheiro. It is yellow card because general direction of play and number of defenders do not apply here - ball is not heading into the goal; there's a Porto defender close enough to the attacking player and that defender would be able to stop play.

Incredibly challenging match, a fiery Clássico officiated in a top-class way by Pinheiro, who is now clearly ahead of Soares Dias. Yesterday's match just bore it out.

  13. A very bad first half by Massa in Milan-Lazio, with a lot of clear fouls not whistled

    ReplyDelete
  14. Unless we're missing something, Darren England has made a catastrophic error as VAR in Spurs-Liverpool with the Liverpool goal ruled out for offside.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Worst ever display of refereeing in history between Spurs and Liverpool. Both Simon Hooper and Darren England should have long suspensions. Got 75% of decisions completely wrong, all in favour of the home side spurs

    ReplyDelete
  16. Horrific refereeing display in years by Simon Hooper and VAR today. Clear Bias from the start. Shocking 2 red card calls consistently making wrong decisions. And to make that errror and not even DRAW THE LINES. Complete and utter incompetence and one sided officiating. If this was a player they would be dropped for weeks or months. Second time for Hooper, he has to go. Cant believe what I’m actual watching as a neutral fan!!!

  17. A third major VAR offside error this year in the Premier League. Time for SAOT. Hooper was dropped after a major controversy in matchday 1. Why he was given the best game of the week I don't know.

  18. So the PGMOL have apologized for the offside, with no lines drawn which was clearly onside in TotLiv. Difficult to find a reasonable excuse for this human error, it is shambolic.
26' YC upgraded to red. Very split opinions on this one but studs on high ankle, I think SFP is the correct decision.
68/69' YC and 2 YC. The second with the RC is correct, but the first one is an act of simulation and should never have been a foul or caution for Jota.
More generally, a pretty dire day (again) for the PGMOL

    1. Adding to that, it looks like 68' Udogie gestures for a card on the first Jota card. Difficult to be 100% from grainy video but certainly looks that way. If so, he also should have been dismissed

  19. Also, there was a potential penalty for handball made by Amrabat earlier today. For me clear penalty... I can't find video

  20. The offside is about as unforgivable an error as you're likely to find from a VAR. Especially given Darren England is a former FIFA AR. He's human, and humans make mistakes but it's a catastrophic error and I don't see how he can be appointed as a VAR again for a long time

  21. Look, I have a theory. As you know, Simon Hooper was among the best referees in the Premier League last season. And frankly he would have deserved the FA Cup final. He was in our list of candidates but ultimately somebody else was chosen. Don't you think that it is possible that this affected him? Menatally it must frustrating. He is not the same referee this season and today was the second big conteoversy in which he was involved. Cam we also talk about poor management by PGMOL? This game was supposed to be risky to officiate anyway.

    1. I don't think Hooper was too bad today. First Jota yc was an obvious mistake but in real time I also thought it was a foul, difficult for the ref. VAR on the other hand... sorry but England should be sacked, thats inexplicable and not for the first time from him.

    2. Unfortunately, matei and anty you cannot defend the refereeing in this game. It was a one-sided pathetic game by the officials. Watch the whole game and you will see. Chefren can you please comment your thoughts. Thanks

    3. Not a single person outside refereeing forums thinks the referee was anything other than diabolical today. Appointing such an inexperienced official who has no ability to keep up with play to such a fixture was stupid.

  22. To summarise:

    1) Curtis Jones sent off for a harsh red card. Still image shown straight away rather than the angles which prove there was no intent but rather his foot on the ball and him not having any control after the connection with the ball. Crazy and harsh decision. And not a clear and obvious error.

    2) Minutes later Liverpool take the lead but it’s wrongly disallowed for offside. VAR quickly rules it out, doesn’t use lines to check. Darren England should be suspended for a long time.

    3) Salah flagged for a foul on Bissouma for nothing, not a slight foul. If the ref doesn’t blow Salah is in the box and could create a big goal scoring opportunity.

    4) Spurs get a corner when the ball clearly comes off Kulusevski. Impacts Liverpool flow.

    5) Jota booked because Udogie trips himself. Clear simulation but not caught. He then (stupidly) makes a rash challenge which gets him a second yellow.

    6) Before Jota’s second yellow Udogie asks the ref to give Jota a second yellow for a minor foul. He doesn’t get booked even though asking for a yellow is now a bookable offence.

    7) Robertson and Peter Krawietz booked for complaining about a foul on Robertson.

    8) Bissouma gets a yellow for putting a hand in Wataru’s face. A hand in the face should be a red card.

    9) In general, Simon Hooper made a number of decisions which went against Liverpool’s flow in the game. Not being given advantage when we should have, pulling up players for fouls which were incredibly soft.

The public view of officiating and VAR is already at an all time low in England and now most people have no faith in the referees or Howard Webb.

Something needs to be done or sorted out as it is ruining our game.

    1. I agree with some of your points but Jones red card is absolutely a red card. Intent is irrelevant now in football except for violent conduct and this was serious foul.play.
Whether he intended to stud a player well above the ankle doesn't matter, he did so it's a red card

    2. I believe the only solution is to bring foreign referees to England.

      Delete
    3. 3 was worse, not only did he penalise Salah after a dive by Bissouma, he then proceded to book him for complaining. This is a major issue now in the PL. Referees seem more interested in booking players for descenting blatantly wrong decisions than making the right call first time.

    4. I echo Écosse's comment. From my 'Spanish POV' it was a very good intervention to upgrade Jones' challenge to SFP RC. Studs with high force above the opponent's ankle, 'bending' it.

Unfortunate from VAR in the offside, we had a similar situation in LaLiga last year (VAR missed an offside because they forgot to check the full APP)

      Delete
    5. It wasn't high force. His foot came down on the ball, wasn't clear and obvious by premier league standards. Same tackle tomorrow will be play on

      Delete
    6. Also, poor images shown to Simon Hooper. A still image should not be what the referee sees first at the screen, should be full spead

      Delete
    7. 5 is incorrect. It’s a clear trip, watch it closely please. It is virtually impossible to trip yourself up running at such a speed. Darren England had exactly 48hr and 30min between kickoff in his Emirati game as VAR and this one. It showed! :/

  23. I feel more pain on behalf of Simon Hooper 💔 given that the game wasn’t really bad but turned to be ugly after the red card and Darren England 🙊 so controversial referee he is !

  24. Oh you're going to like this one. It is being (very reliably) reported by ESPN (Dale Johnson) that VAR England thought that the onfield decision was goal, so after confirming onside, said check complete, and play restarted. It was only after it became obvious an error had been made.
Because the onside was so clear, lines weren't fully drawn and released and the check was quick. So the error wasn't in that, but instead in the VAR team thinking the onfield decision was the opposite to what it was

    1. How on earth could a VAR not get the correct decision on field like how?

      Delete
    2. If you watch enough of those VAR clips that Howard Webb uses you notice how informal the language is over comms between the entire team in England. It seems like that lack of crisp and intentional language that should be standard with comms in the VAR era has finally caught up with PGMOL.

      Delete
    3. Agree that the relatively more informal language used by PGMOL is partly to blame. I also think English officials need to start pointing to the centre spot like their international counterparts after a goal (obvious or not) to aid with clarity.

  25. RKC Waalwijk - Ajax suspended, after Brian Brobbey (Ajax) collided with the home team's GK Etienne Vaessen, hitting his head in full speed. First reports claim that Vaessen is in critical condition.

    https://twitter.com/bloodfebe/status/1708225123537342844

The match was suspended immediately, not sure if the ref (Van Boekel) took any disciplinary decision against Brobbey and honestly I don't know what sanction would be sufficient for a foul which endangers your opponents life.

Hopefully Vaessen will have the strength to recover after this horrible accident, otherwise sadly this might turn out to be one of the most tragic injuries ever to happen on a football pitch.

    1. Don't make it sound like foul play. I think everyone after the match was in agreement in their assessment that this was a very serious accident that can happen and no sanction needed. Both sides were seriously shaken by what happened and match was suspended and not resumed. Luckily the goalkeeper was quickly treated by medical staff and seems allright now, but it looked very scary at first sight.

  26. Outstanding performance by Bastien tonight in a quite challenging Monaco-Marseille. A pity that he had so many unfortunate incidents on his European games because he is simply excellent. Very elegant and top-class decision-maker.

  27. Daniel Cook was part of Darren England VAR team for Tottenham vs Liverpool, and he’s Michael Oliver UEFA and FIFA assistant referee 🤦🏽‍♂️🤦🏽‍♂️ And Oliver was the 4th official in game game

  28. Can I ask, could you access “normally” premier league page for EPL appointments, I couldn’t find matchday 7 appointments on their news page, is it only me or maybe “something” happened :) ?

    1. The website doesn’t seem to be working properly. They have the usual link from the twitter post to the website with thr appointments as usual, but they don’t appear if you go straight to the websites

    2. Yep, and this is the website of the richest league in the world. There are no also referee profiles - when you try to enter that section you get "Oops! Something's gone wrong".

      Delete
    3. IMO EPL is the easiest league in the world to see referee appointments and statistic on their website, hopefully this is only technical issue.

      Delete
    4. I'm assuming it has been removed to edit two appointments. England and Cook (the VAR and AVAR of Spurs Liverpool) have been replaced from today and tomorrows matches

  29. My guess is ENGLANDRef is a Liverpool fan as a lot of them points mentioned clearly show biased towards Liverpool. The first red card is the easiest and clearest red card you can give, I was slightly surprised this was missed in real time. I have no idea how the player did not get severely injured. The offside goal well, it’s well documented that it’s an error.
The 2 yellow cards again are correct. The first yellow card is clear contact between opponents, the running player then off course clips himself as a result of the contact (I always remember this in school when you used to trip friends up who were running, the cause of the fall would be them kicking their own heels but it would be me kicking them). The second yellow well, what a stupid player, utter incompetence from a premier league player and has severely let his team mates down, knowing he is on a yellow card AND his team already down to 10 players. Absolute stupidity and ultimately he has cost his team.

    1. I guess the problem is inconsistency. Jones red is not a mistake but rarely given in England. And in general if he was so card happy why didn't he send off Udogie also? It was a mandatory second yc for waving imaginary card at Hooper. But I agree that Hooper wasn't as bad as VAR, England and Cook should be investigated

  30. Just saw game between Napoli Madrid with Sundberg. Really not convincing. Many cards. Little management of the players. He need be more proaktive not reactive. And also more show more strong bodylanguage
