Surprising that Schröder gets the debut in this competition before Jablonski - and as his third non-friendly international game overall.
ReplyDeleteNo big surprises among the rest. Nyberg this time with a less sonorous, but still important game.
Sidiropoulos continues his comeback in a group top game, but not very important.
Now I am wondering why there have been multiple comment on this blog about Umut Meler being assigned to Netherlands - France. Really confusing. If that was a prediction, please add it to the comment next time…
ReplyDeleteHonestly, NED-FRA does not require a name like Felix Zwayer. It looks a big game ’on paper’, however the game Paris was very one-sided and now, half of the Dutch squad is injured, so I expect a very one-sided game again. Nyberg’s game in Ireland will be more difficult imo.
Agree with you about the first part of your message, next comments like the ones with Umut Meler for NED - FRA (then not true) will be deleted. But I think, just fans from Turkey and they can't write more.
DeleteThe fact that Zwayer has this game and maybe he was not fully required in my opinion explains exactly how the German is seen by comment: a very trusted referee, Middle - Up Elite Category, but not still a real Top like others. He gets big games but when these are not 100% crucial. Nvertheless, in recent months he gained a very big credit, thank also to the unlucky times of his Elite countryman colleague.
+1. I reckon, Zwayer is seen as a trusted Elite and is the German #1, but rather due to Siebert’s weaker period. I’m not sure he was really tested in the games he was assigned to. I hope to see him in more challenging contexts soon
DeleteDutch media see the game against France as a lost game on beforehand. The players and coach already focus on number 2 in group. The NED game in Greece against Greece is crucial. I think a very trusted Elite must be appointed in Greece
Delete@Anonymous (original post): I also did not expect Gil Manzano for AUT - BEL. Both teams have 13 points, followed by SWE, 7 (!) points behind. Since the first two teams of each group directly qualify for the tournament, there is (currently) no need for an Elite referee who handled for instance the Milanese derby some months ago. For my taste, this game would have been more suitable for a recently promoted Elite referee from a smaller country who does not have that much experience with matches in front of almost 50,000 spectators.
Delete@Peter: +1
DeleteSmall correction: AR2 for Schröder(GER) is Robert Wessel
ReplyDeleteDisaster decision in the Bundesliga. 3 min. Frankfurt - Heidenheim. REF Schlager whistles handball and penalty. But the ball was on the chest. VAR intervention without OFR = direct free kick. Why not dropped ball?
ReplyDeleteProbably because the VAR looked at the wrong angles, because he was only focussed on the location. In many TV replays, it looked like a clear handball, only the later ones showed, that it was the chest.
DeleteCan VAR, according to protocol, actually advise an OFR when the alleged incident happened outside even if a penalty was given on the field? I'm not so sure
DeleteNo they can’t

UEFA added a few more UCL observers. For some UCL games, the delegate is announced earlier than the observer. Very rare if you ask me
ReplyDeleteDas Spiel zwischen den Kosovaren und den Israelis hatte vor der Annullierung die Video-Schiedsrichter Soeren Storks und Sven Jablonski.
ReplyDeleteTwo correct early cautions for reckless play by the solid-appearing German Schröder in Estonia vs. Azerbaijan. In the second booking given, he should pull the Azeri away a bit before showing the card, in order to underline his authority a bit (more).
ReplyDeleteWhether it wqs penalty or not, great decision from Schroder to book AZE player for protest.
DeleteYou just cant run up to ref like that and demand penalty, refreshing to see that for him, from Taylor yesterday and in general in PL and Bundesliga .
Yeah - although to be fair it was really blatant mobbing, Schröder couldn't even watch the game properly due to it... clear handball, correct intervention by Brand. Schröder seemed to detect it at first and then doubt himself, his position was quite 'square' and it was hard to be sure about the offence from his viewing °. That dissent was the fourth booking of the half, the third was for a challenge where the line for SFP was in sight, but YC definitely the right decision.
DeleteThe OFR in Tallinn:
ReplyDeletehttps://streamin.me/v/1f7bba5a
I must say very surprising by a German VAR to call this one, but I explain it with the movement of defender, arms were not anymore used as support, but he just kept them there to stop ball... I think we can agree, but I would dare to say not all VAR would have called this one.
Quite interesting incident now at 51’, when this time Estonia asked for a handling penalty. Okay supporting arm vs. ‘players can’t be allowed to act as goalkeepers when diving to block shots’; this time, I think the former is the more correct argument.
DeletePretty speechless at this ignored/missed YC at 53’, the most blatant deliberate charging after the ball you could ask for (force was 100% never close to excessive, but this is a paramount example of reckless). Schröder barely saw it as a freekick. I don’t understand how time after time UEFA referees can misread these sorts of games and the approach required!! :D
The full sequence of the OFR:
Deletehttps://streamff.co/v/UFIPt_RUfH
I would say:
1) Lazy positioning, you can see at the beginning of the video referee standing still, then only after a few seconds he decided to get closer to the play. Despite of having the requested positioning for assessing the incident, an anticipation of the movement would have helped him to find more focus when it happened.
2) He was about to whistle the penalty, but he was not sure, you can see that after the handball he made a gesture like whistling.
3) Absolutely unacceptable mobbing by player, running together with referee and impeding him from watching play for a so long time, rarely seen. Mandatory card.
But yes, player from AZE was not clever, because he should have known that VAR was there. Stupid protest, just to get YC.
Not an OFR to me, arm marginally away from body. Supportable each way
Delete51' - https://streambug.net/v/51e077
DeleteAgree with Mikael. Very clear that this was a support arm and one can agree with VAR. Very challenging game regarding handballs in VAR room for German officials, but we must say all their decisions are indeed reasonable, it is not always (I would say, never...) like today.
DeleteCloser to goal (eg. inside the goal area), I would say the handling should be punished, given the much higher chance of stopping a goal, but as far away from the posts as this, agree with Chefren that the right decision is play on here. Interesting incident(s) though - at least imo.

ReplyDeleteDavit Haritonashvili, the super league referee in Georgia, retired from refereeing. A ceremony for Haritonashvili was held by GFF before the national match, who officiated 302 matches in the Georgia top division. A plaque was presented to him. It is very nice to stop refereeing in this manner.
How old is he when retired?
DeleteNice by Cüneyt Cakir to visit him for his farewell ;)
Delete14 min, clear penalty not given by Nybergg, holding and yellow, it was a penalty for Greece, shocking decision, VAR???
ReplyDeleteIt is definitely supportable but not a clear and obvious mistake incase of a non whistle. Personally I'd even go as far as to say that playing on was the correct decision due to the fact that the attacker fell when he tripped on his own foot and not from the contact of the defender.
DeleteTotal wrong YC for Veerman by Zwayer
ReplyDeleteI agree, play on was probably the best decision
DeleteNice decision by Frappart (20') in her 'historic' game too :D
DeleteAnd now even a small confrontation (more a contretemps tbh) in this friendly game! Mutual cautions for unsporting were issued by the Frenchwoman.
45+1 Now a free kick for NL after Dumfries kicks in the pitch.. Zwayer is embarrassing
DeleteMbappe clearly touched Dumfries.

It is painful to watch Stéphanie Frappart, when the goodwill of the players run out, it is genuinely excruciating (in men's matches)... sorry, someone has to say that.
ReplyDeleteControl over the players actions is ZERO (and already four YCs shown).
DeleteIf nobody gets hurts, I'm not exaggerating(!), this performance has been a success.
No sure what your problem is. Shes been fine in a game with quite a few challenges flying around
DeleteHandling successfully Germany-Costa Rica in Qatar can give you a pass for pretty much everything it seems (receiving appointments again and again at WWC despite mediocre showings, finishing 4th at the last Ligue 1 referees' rankings while efficiently controlling none of the games in the season, etc.)
DeleteTo remember she is in Men's 1st Cat is the cherry on the cake tbh.
This comment has been removed by a blog administrator.
DeleteGood performance by Frappart. The misogynist biased views on here show how difficult it is for female refs to earn praise
DeleteI dunno, the Venn diagram circles for ‘people who actually understand refereeing’ and ‘people who think Frappart is there on (anything remotely approaching) merit’ are looking pretty mutually exclusive to me… 🤷♂️
DeleteThere goes women agenda.
DeleteWhen you have @Mikael W,who is one of the more realistic and experienced blogger saying that about her, then you know that she didn't have good match.
She is very lucky that she is handling French matches, where slow and not emotional enough football is being played.
Imagine her in Serie A,La Liga or even PL where players and managers get carried plenty of times by emotions.
Imagine her handling match that involves
teams like Getafe,Atletico Madrid,Porto Benfica and so on.
Or managers like Mourinho,Inzaghi,Simeone,Sarri...
We have that in Brazil's Serie A where Enedina Alves has some matches where players just cant except her bad performance.
Same can be said about Frappart, just in Europe.
You cant even criticise Frappart's performance.YES,PERFORMANCE, you are right away sexist and you need to shut up.
The fact that she is being pushed so hard by UEFA and FIFA is ridicoulous, we all saw last WC how 1 spot was taken away from some gifted male ref that is 100x better than her.
She has frequently matches that escalate, has small bit of control reacts to players overreaction and is just not good as some male refs.
That small control that she has is the fact that she is women-that's the only thing that is saving her.
Cause you can see in plenty matches that players are furious with her style, they just cant say it to hrr face cause right away the will be deemd as sexist and misogynist, that act will hurt them and their pockets for long time.
In the future, she will for sure handle some male final, whether it is CL,WC,EC,EL or CL.
She just has to hope that she wont have some emotional team, but she will make sure that she is headline of that match.
And I dont know if that's guideline for women but I can't understand that almost all of them have lenient style, they want to keep cards in their pocket,it's almost like they went through Turpin's or Nyberg's school.
The people who write the referee Frappart.
DeleteHave they ever referred a match at international level or below for that matter .Referee Frappart had the ability and experience and knowledge .( Better than some male referees)
And some of the comments are ridiculous.
Would the same people write about a mail referee like that?.
If FIFIA or UEFA did not trust her as referee .
She simply would not be there .
38 min, clear clear holding AR2, clear yellow card not given -1

DeleteGil Manzano Jesus got it well in first half
ReplyDeleteReally number 1 for Spain 🇪🇸
Gil Manzano second YC:

OFR for hanbdall penalty:
https://streamin.me/v/20cdc574
14e min missed penalty Nyberg, and missed clear yellow card 38e min, and big problems 88 min with discussion about more then 5 changes yes or not Greece side. Play stopped to discuss with referee / var and 4th
ReplyDeleteSituation in 14’ would have been a very soft penalty. Correct to play on. Not a yellow after 38’. Slight holding and not a SPA. The situation with the subs was peculiar. Seems like the coach of Greece made a baseless accusation that Ireland had used more subs than what was the case. Naturally, the referee team wanted to make sure that this was not the case. Appeared to have been confirmed by VAR.
DeleteSoft penalty ? What a joke? This is a clear penalty. Clear example of holding by defender. No intention for ball, maybe somebody can put the video online for learning material, 38e min Nybergg
DeleteYou are perceived as ignorant when you share these opinions, your lack of knowledge does not contribute anything to the blog. In general, the blog has significantly deteriorated due to lack of knowledge.
DeleteDefinitely not a clear penalty, slight contact on the shoulder and the deciding factor for the attacker to fall to the ground was him tripping on himself. As a spectator/player you definitely don't want these 50/50 penalties to be whistled and as a VAR you shouldn't intervene here due to it not being a clear and obvious mistake (and even a correct decision in my opinion).
DeleteGood job by German team in The Netherlands.
ReplyDeleteI only saw some highlights but Zwayer and his crew seemed to be well accepted. The first YC was at least doubtful because there were a number of SPAish offences in a row and Zwayer cautioned the only dutch player that committed a fair challenge, but this can happen. A YC in thid situation was all right, just for the wrong player.
ReplyDeleteI liked the two YC for time wasting, including the one for Mbappé. Zwayer is not afraid of big names.
Two clips from Frappart game:
ReplyDelete20' - Foul and NO CARD
https://streamff.co/v/n1nSKFi3ws
34' - Confrontation and another YC incident to follow one minute later
https://streamff.co/v/QvtXYPMRvJ
14' - missed penalty for holding Nyberg
ReplyDeletehttps://streamff.co/v/iwN175PMbc
Penalty not clear at all, greyzone area, contact minimum and probably correct to continue.
DeleteAgreed @Adam, especially since the attacker fell due to him tripping himself.
DeleteChefren the site is excellent .
ReplyDeleteUnfortunately some of the reviews and comments about match officials, are wrong and are misleading.
And are written by people who have probably never refereed a football match or been an assistant referee .
Some viewers are extremely good
Some viewers are by people who just don’t like the officials .
Some who write think that some officials can do no wrong in a game.
People should try being match official .
I agree.
