  1. Why would 39 year old Bitigen be observed by Velasco Carballo? Makes zero sense in my opinion

    ReplyDelete
  2. Best games IMO for Sozza, Berka, Schlager and Bitigen.

  3. There is a focus on Turkish referee in this round, we have Velasco Carballo and Undiano Mallenco observing them. A committe member and an important observer respectively. While the reason is clear for one of them, with the U17 WC call and a potential big career, it is interesting to point out what Velasco could see in Bitigen...
Weeb with Minaković is another interesting assignment.
Schnyder seems to have replaced Schaerer at moment in UEFA assignment, and after the good display in EURO Qualifiers, he will be observed by Dallas. The former committee member works most of the time in the UK.
Sidiropoulos back after the injury and he will start from Conference League.

    1. Webb is more needed in England in these days than outside??

    2. Yes but three or four days for UEFA duties are ok.

    3. @Chefren how do you rank current Turkish FIFA refs? It was like Halil Umut Meler (86), Arda Kardesler (88), Atilla Karaoglan (86), Abdulkadir Bitigen (84), Erkan Ozdamar (88), Yaşar Kemal Ugurlu (82). Türkiye needs a cat 1 referee and I was expecting Arda Kardesler to take that spot. Do you think UEFA thinks Bitigen or Karaoglan ahead of Arda Kardesler?

  4. What do you think about Ondrej Berka? Iinm it’s debut for him in senior UEFA competition and who is Pristovnik? I rarely seen both names in UEFA competition recently. Is he potential or it’s just “normal” assignment, try to give chance for new names.

    1. I watched him in a Barcelona vs AZ Alkmaar UYL Round of 16 game and I was quite impressed by his performance, including a fully correct 2YC for diving.

IMO he deserves to get a chance in UEFA, should be Czech #1 referee in UEFA now after Pavel Orel was removed from the international list last year.

  5. Strange appointment if not scandalous, who is Ahmed Eisa Mohamed Darwish, UAE referee in charge in ACL “big match” Shandong Taishan vs Yokohama Marinos in China. Even he is not selected for upcoming Asian Cup in Qatar. And we have Mohamed Abdulla Hassan Mohamed in charge in only “mediocre match” BG Pathum United vs Johor Darul in Thailand with Gulmurodi from Tajikistan as 4th official and selected for supporting referee in upcoming Asian Cup.

  6. Schlager over Jablonski?

    Replies
    1. Even if Jablonski was selected for Talents & Mentors, Schlager is also under UEFA focus, he had a good performance in his EURO Qualifiers game in Kazakhstan.

  7. Schnyder under the Dallas radar too…. Important observer for him in this match.

  10. Schlager with an interesting game.
Let's see how he gets along with Italian teams.
    Rosetti will look closely.

  11. Very pleasing performance from Elchin Masiyev in the Faroe Islands.
The Azerbaijani didn't have a very entertaining game, but he had everything under control at all times. 3 correct yellow cards and good management from the players.

  13. 2 correct penalties whistled by Sidirópoulos, although the first one could have been a RC for DOGSO.

    1. No way. DOGSO but challenging for the ball -> YC.

  14. Long VAR check at PAOK - Eintracht after home team goal for both possible foul in the APP & offside, at the end disallowed due to offside.

Looks like it will be a tense game for Sozza.

Overall very good duel evaluation and good body language.

  16. Schlager has problems with acceptance. Maybe he doesn't feel so secure because he also often has problems nationally? Unfortunately, I see a comparison with Stegemann. In any case, the comparison to Brych is total nonsense.

    1. I'm watching the game live. He has no acceptance problems!!
Full game control, good duel rating.

  17. Elbow to the side of head in Aberdeen by Helsinki player crazy decision by VAR not to intervene

    ReplyDelete
  18. Elbow to the head of an Aberdeen player missed by the referee, should've been at least a YC and probably a red once you see the replays.

    ReplyDelete
  19. crazy decision by the polish crew.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Schalger with a penalty to Ferencvaros removed by VAR because missed offside by assistant referee. The penalty would have been supportable if not full correct, but I saw a certain attitude by attacker to look for the contact. Still, couldn't have been questioned by VAR.

    1. And also a disallowed goal for Fiorentina by VAR because of offside.

  21. clear YC missed by Stegemann

    ReplyDelete
  26. Bit of mixed performance by Schnyder in Birmingham.
Pretty good control and foul recognition, great fitness. Few incidents worth to mention:
24' - YC for simulation for AV7 - brilliant refereeing, spot on decision

54-55' - wrong penalty decision for handball. Weird because he had clear view on the incident and ball hit the defenders chest/head and then bounced on the arm. Good invervention from VAR.

63-64' - 2 YCs given after a mass confrontation. Spot on not to fail for AV2's theatrical fall after the minor contact between the two heads.

89-90' - I think the most interesting decision. Clear shirt pull on AV22 (Zaniolo), and he didn't fall, but it was blatant and clear. I think it's just wrong message, that these calls are usually not given. This is a textbook holding offence, so 100% clear and it's not given because player is trying his best to play on. What do you think? (Not to mention if this situation is anywhere else on the field I am nearly sure he would have whistled it back and caution the player)

    ReplyDelete
  27. Mass confrontation after final whistle and 3RCs by Sozza. Unexpected after a fair game and good performance by the Italian

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. The red card against the Frankfurt keeper is the most absurd thing I have ever seen. If Sozza wasn't Italian, there would be consequences for him. Since he is, he will probably just referee the next World Cup as a reward.

      Delete
    2. IMO red card was not absurd because Trapp was agressive not only to the opponent but even to his teammates. Calm down emotion from his side was little bit like a theatre.

  28. Red card to Lahdo (AZ) for SFP
    https://streamable.com/81v1y3

Overall, decent performance by Minaković but there were some areas he could work on in his next games. He appeared to be very distant, not looking for connection with players, with unpleasant facial expression, even quite arrogant at times. He combined it with - rather accepted - laidback approach but also poor alertness regarding delaying the restart - kicking the ball after whistle (especially this season you have to be more proactive and at least issue some strong warnings...). Good physical condition and running. Well sold management of conflicts and warnings at set pieces.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Utter incompetence from Stefanski and his team tonight very poor

    ReplyDelete
  30. The mentioned incidents from Schnyder game (thank Theref):

    24'
Simulation outside the box, excellent spot
    https://streamff.co/v/a55aVbpDq3

    54'
    No penalty for handball, OFR
    https://streamable.com/lkk0dr

    64'
Mass confrontation, good management by referee, not a violent conduct, but rather more simulation by opponent, so YC is enough
    https://streamff.com/v/Vi9fn_K093

    89'
Possible penalty, but attacker continued to play. I must admit that the holding is more than clear, nevertheless, with player continuing his action, it is even hard to notice that... so? Can we think that VAR should have a look to such situations sometimes? Basically, VAR is not strictly for holdings, even more if not clear and visible consequences, but..
    https://streamff.co/v/vBvGFKp6sX

The clip suggests us that the Swiss referee has basically some good skills, the mistake about handball can always happen, would have been excellent if he had whistled the final holding.

    ReplyDelete

    1. Thanks Chefren!

The most interesting about the scene at 89' is that players not even complaining.
But maybe it's only my preference but for such clear offence penatly should be given. Would be interesting to know how Dallas assessed it. (even in RAP I would love to see this situation) But the upcoming groupstage will probably gives us the answer as based on the whole picture I would not be surprised if we will see Schnyder in EL. He has lots of potential and did well in general in a tighther than expected game.

  31. stefanski has 2 major errors plus poor foul detection

firstly missed RC for Helsinki player for deliberate elbow to opponents head.

Then foul throw which leads to Helsinki goal

    ReplyDelete
  32. Here the most discussed incident from Aberdeen - HJK:
    https://streamff.co/v/vctb1oNZOb
It is indeed a very interesting case in which I think VAR could have intervened, but I try to understand why this didn't happen and I draw always the same conclusion: not 100% evidence that it was a deliberate action against opponent. Not a 100% but in my opinion a 90% this time.
If you read the incident as RC you can easily say that player looked at opponent before, then when coming closer, he opened the arm in that position.... but in the reading of the VAR I think they assessed the playre made that movement to use elbow to protect his position and one must also consider opponent's path. Would have been slightly different in case of similar action, but with opponent already close and with a direct bow on head.
So, maybe, but it's just my opinion, a 10% is missing for assessing it as very clear violent conduct against opponent and for this reason VAR didn't intervene.
Final remark: in all cases NO CARD is important mistake by referee, but this was not easy to see because at first glance you can be focused on what happens regarding possible low contacts and not thinking about such action.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I guess, I'm in the 10% then. For me, the arm is used as a tool, not as a weapon. There is also no hitting movement, but just leading with the stiff arm.
Therefore I would even say, that a RC would be a harsh decision.
But surely reckless / YC, of course.

    1. The first penatly is brilliant decision. Very alert to notice the handball.
Second was let's say one of the easiest penalty what we have seen in recent times. :D Nevertheless full concentration here again and good decision.

  34. After everything that happened yesterday at AZ - Legia, which even led to a diplomatic row, an elite referee for the return is inevitable imo

    ReplyDelete
  35. Two penalties by Sidiropoulos, both correct decisions.
No DOGSO in the first case but SPA because attacker deliberately kicked the ball forward and it was unclear whether he would have controlled it again or not.

The Greek seems back in good form, I can just wish him this will last.

  36. Ladebäck in Čukarički - Genk, penalty after OFR:
    https://streamff.co/v/XWYMZ_nzRS
It is interesting to observe that Swedish referee didn't have the expected reaction after the penalty area incident. Replay shows us a very quick step on foot while the other attacker was running to receive teammate's pass.
I think we can easily explain why referee didn't react, he was focused on the ball, missing what had happened with the other player... correct VAR intervention with an evidence.
