    1. Very controversial ofr goal in Atalanta Genova referee Marinelli Chefren.

    2. Indeed no explanation, that's something going against what Rocchi stated about Genoa - Milan. VAR should have confirmed Marinelli decision of disallowing the goal, because no evidence that it wasn't handball. But he called referee to OFR and goal was then allowed. I think at the end the decision can be correct, rather no handball than handball, but it can't be demonstrated, and, most important, VAR acted in a different way than Genoa - Milan. Very difficult to explain, but I think he was afraid to take the decision by himself and he called referee to monitor. We can only wait for Rocchi clarifications, he has still to talk about Genoa - Milan...

  4. Ionela Pesu twice with Spain… it could have been avoided. Also some ARs get two matches. Interesting to see also some male observers appointed and some elite referees on duty.

  5. Just saw AR2 in Olympiakos-Panathinaikos, Valerio Vecchi, wearing a FIFA badge although i’m pretty sure he is not FIFA. Maybe an “escamotage” to let people believe he is?

    2. just saw on “x” that pyrotechnics were thrown on the field and hit a player who was warming up

    3. Indeed, not a FIFA assistant referee.
But.. do you mean the FIFA badge or the UEFA badge? Because in the second case, I already saw many officials wearing it without being on FIFA list.

  6. Another appeal I want to write on this blog to FIFA, UEFA, Infantino, Čeferin and all top football bodies: please stop this situation in Greece! It is simply unacceptable! If you go on just for money (I can't see other reasons) be aware that you put in danger the life of many people. I know that such incidents happen often in other countries as well, but what we see in Greece is out of reality.

    1. Such events are normal in underdeveloped countries like Greece. A few years ago, a club president entered the field with a gun.

      Delete
    2. Why are you saying underdeveloped country?

Not all fans are like that...

Those ultras are passionate but that passion can be shown in a wrong way and today it was shown in a very wrong way.

What are we then saying about Netherlands?

      Are they underdeveloped?

Cause every time I watch their big matches with their biggest clubs that involves Ajax,Psv or Feyenord, their game gets suspended cause if their fans..

Today match was suspended when Utrecht played Ajax,so it doesn't need to be these 3 big clubs to play against each other...

      Delete
    3. In the Netherlands, 90% of the games is suspended because of a cup thrown on the side of the field, mostly due to emotions and with no harmful intention (obviously there are exceptions such as Ajax-Feyenoord this year, although this can be seen as a reaction to the suspension policy as well)

We’re not really comparing this to a country which has to fly in international referees for the safety of domestic referees, are we?

    4. These things happens when you have a Federation (HFF) who is controlled by a club (AEK) and a League (SL) who is controlled by another club (Olympiakos). This is the case since 2021.

FIFA/UEFA should intervene and dissolve HFF and appoint another HFF board. That way, Greece might have a chance.

  7. Premier League Referee Appointments for coming weekend

Anthony Taylor in the championship, most likely after his poor performance in Wolves vs Newcastle on Saturday. Potential UCL game midweek?, he is with his FIFA ARS as usual, Beswick and Nunn

Michael Oliver has Spurs vs Chelsea on Monday Night so no UEFA game midweek for him. He is with his normal team Burt and Cook

  10. I read today that Masiyev (AZE) whistled 4 penalties on the Italy U17 - Greece U17 match. Can someone provide videos?

    1. Well, definitely too easy.

Hopefully it works outside Italy (let me know) otherwise I will download it and upload it on another site.

    2. Thanks you for that.

IMO 1,2,4 penalties seem correct. 3 is soft if not inexistent....

      Delete
    3. It works. The first and fourth penalty looked correct, the second very doubtful, the third totally incorrect. It is sad seeing players to fall so easily even at this age level.

      Delete
    4. For me:
      1) Looks correct decision, but we can't give 100% here because the decisive moment of the contact is hidden by another player, we see defender putting leg and attacker falling, that should be enough. but still theatrical fall.

      2) Very soft penalty, close to a mistake, but still, without clear replay one should support referee. I think that it would have been better to play on, but there are some elements for whistling.

      3) Looks a mistake to me, I think no penalty here. The close replay seems to show an intervention on the ball, with attacker maybe using the opportunity to fall and to get a penalty (but rather in a difficult situation to spot).

      4) The most clear penalty of all. Tackle without ball.

    5. Agreed 100% with Chefren here. Lots of situations to assess but a lot of the falls are very theatrical, sad to see indeed.

  12. 19' I know this should be obvious and the norm, but how often do we not see it... Excellent quick response to stop play and call for medics from Staubli after the serious head injury for Greenwood. Textbook

  13. Straight RC for DOGSO by Dionisi in Bologna - Verona, coppa Italia:
    https://streamff.co/v/IwmaBakM7u
The player was already booked, but he got the direct RC for DOGSO.
Big discussion, but I think that referee didn't make a mistake. True that keeper can reach the ball before, but without the foul on attacker, one can't be sure about a very quick action to play ball before opponent, so correct decision by VAR to stay silent. Nevertheless, most of people in such situation find more correct a YC for SPA.

    1. Grey area, both (2)YC and RC acceptable, but given the unsporting character of the offence (holding) and that in the moment of foul the attacker is closer to the ball than the goalkeeper, my choice would be a straight red card as well.

    2. If you freeze the video the moment that the holding offence starts, then it is a clear RC.

    3. From a refereeing standpoint it’s just easier to give 2YC than RC for DOGSO here. Same effect for the player, same result for the game but NO protests from either team. In my opinion. It’s a grey area like Euro Soccer Ref said and I don’t totally agree with @anonymous 09:43, where the holding starts it’s a RC but it doesn’t really get any effect until a frame later which it’s now in the grey zone. I think when you have decisions that aren’t clear as day, it’s just easier to give a second yellow in terms of game management.

My preferred solution: blow the whistle, wait a little to think and then second yellow to red. Same effect for the game & player and no protests and it’s atleast a supportable decision due to the uncertainty of the attacking player being able to reach the ball.

  14. Hi,
I would need U17 and U19 national teams appointments.

  15. Some predictions. Tbh I hope we won't read Manzano's name in Milan, cause it gives the impression that referees are rewarded when they whistle a soft (and rather wrong) penalty to PSG.

    Atlético - Celtic: NYBERG
    Lazio - Feyenoord: MARCINIAK
    Dortmund - Newcastle: MELER
    Milan - Paris: GIL MANZANO
Man City - Young Boys: LAMBRECHTS
    Crvena zvezda - Leipzig: ORSATO
    Shakhtar Donetsk - Barcelona: KABAKOV
    Porto - Antwerp: COLLUM

    Bayern - Galatasaray: JOVANOVIC
    Copenhagen - Man United: HERNANDEZ
    Arsenal - Sevilla: KOVACS
    PSV - Lens: SIDIROPOULOS
    Napoli - Union Berlin: MAKKELIE

      Lazio - Feyenoord: Kovacs
      Dortmund - Newcastle: Jovanovic
      Milan - Paris: Meler
Man City - Young Boys: Hernandez
Crvena zvezda - Leipzig: Gil Manzano
      Shakhtar Donetsk - Barcelona: Orsato
      Porto - Antwerp: Collum

      Bayern - Galatasaray: Jorgji
      Copenhagen - Man United: Makkelie

      Napoli - Union Berlin: Rumsas
      Real Madrid - Braga: Lambrechts
      Real Sociedad - Benfica: Gözübüyük
      Salzburg - Inter: Taylor

17th name is Mariani, who I could imagine in Eindhoven (if Grinfeeld isn't available due to Israel situation), Hamburg (game might be too small for Orsato, but hard to find a suitable game for him) or Porto.

    3. Did you think Kulbakov was so poor in UECL and won’t get UCL game this season? I mean we can’t talk again about Ukraine, now media all on focus in Israel.

    4. @Meler: Not sure, but as discussed before all the bigger names are impossible or unlikely for different reasons. And for me, Meler then is the best among the remaining options. He had a good performance on MD1 and a CL R16 game last season - which is more than some alternatives.

@Kulbakov: I think, it would be more logical to give him EL next week, and then CL on MD5 or 6, if things go well. Same for Sidiropoulos and Siebert BTW.

    5. What do you think with potential to use early “same” referees with MD1/2, like Nyberg
