  2. Clear freekick and a YC missed at 8', otherwise very quiet thus far (17').

    1. I don't like to say that but actually I disagree. Player went for the ball and played it fairly, after that there was an unavoidable contact. Hard tackle but no mistake to play on.

    2. Not a big miss, but I agree with Mikael. Foul and YC to be issued, however in the context of the game, it was a very, very isolated event. So far absolutely nothing has happened.

    3. Not a mandatory foul IMO, because there is enough space between contact with ball and contact with opponent. It can be whistled, if the referee wants to reduce phsyicality in the game, but I would dislike a YC there.

    4. not a foul for me aswell

    5. Supportable desicion to play on

    6. Foul and a talk would be my choice :)

    7. Please mikael i need your information about algerian referee Mohamed sendid who refereed in olymbic games in Barcelona 1992 why he didn't referee in wc 1994 ?

  3. Thoughts on the CK given by Turpin himself at around 6'?, I couldn't see clearly at the time or on replay but commentator was sure it wasn't a corner.

  4. Correct direct free kick and yc, both mandatory if you ask me

  5. Good start for Turpin, calm, in control. Good YC 30', Free kick correct

  6. that could have been a penalty..

  7. 45' If SUI7 throws himself to the floor after such blatant holding, many referees would have called a PK

  8. I don’t have an issue with the play on in 8’, but I do think the Davies tackle from behind on the Achilles’ tendon should have led to a caution. It was a hard and reckless touch, even to be heard on tv.

  9. Possible penalty indeed but the player was very fair, maybe Turpin didn't even notice this action.

    1. Have you guys been fooled by the commentary as well? Look at the incident again and tell me what the Attacker's left hand is doing. The Attacker is also holding, that's why he doesn't go down. Mutual holding for me is no foul and play on.

    2. I missed the holding by attacker, so even more correct by Turpin to play on.

    3. You’re right Jackson, but there’s quite a difference in the amount and impact of holding by defender compared to attacker. Nevertheless play on is a supportable decision for me.

  10. Well, José María García-Aranda gave a penalty at WC 1998 for less than that! But I think Turpin was quite correct not to blow for one there.

Otherwise, some potential yellow cards if he wanted to clamp down (8', 42') but I don't really think that was appropriate for this game.

  11. Good first half for Turpin, well done

  12. 8' FK should've been given, YC was an option but not mandatory
30' mandatory YC for SPA given
43' should've been a YC for reckless kick to #4 WAL
45' impossible to give a penalty if attacker doesn't fall down

45' it's irrelevant if he falls down or not. a foul was committed

  13. Correct YC for reckless use of arms.

  14. 47' Correct YC for WAL13 (reckless elbow)

  15. Correct YC for SWI2 (reckless tackle)

definate penalty, lines man was in a better position and should have alerted the ref. otherwise excellent performance by the officials

  17. Now another YC for reckless tackle from behind, I agree.

  18. Evident offside missed by AR1, we will have first VAR intervention.

  19. Looked a clear offside even live. Poor call

  20. First VAR intervention of the tournament? Offside after VAR check.

  21. First VAR this tournament. Goal of Switzerland denied. Good decision of the VAR, even if it took a bit long.

Btw - why is this played in Baku? Almost no fans, horrible stadium....

Such nice stadiums and cities over Europe. For example in Portugal and France

  22. I disagree with ‘clear offside’! Yes, correct VAR intervention but by far not as evident as it looked like in the live sequence. Forgivable mistake by AR1 IMO.

    1. Full agree ! Thanks for your reaction !

    2. Mmm… half a meter, no crossing, slow pass. He was always offside. If you are in a team to whistle UCL final, you can’t make such mistakes

    3. Yes. Just wanted to post that. It seemed really clear at first, but in the last review, it was much less close than I thought.

  23. Good game, well leaded by Turpin's team.
Best than Makkelie's team yesterday I think

    1. Foul detection: better
      Disciplinary control: comparable
Key Match Incidents: Makkelie was far more challenged with 45' incident bringing media attention, almost nothing for Turpin
Assistants: AR1s in both games with one big mistake, Danos looked better in general though

      Delete
    2. I wouldn’t know why? Makkelie did a good job yesterday with minor mistakes (corner/offside issue, disputable no penalty call), just as Turpin today (1-2 missed cautions, disputable no penalty call). Apart from that Makkelie had more KMI to assess.
But to be honest I don’t really see the idea of comparing these two performances.

    3. You can't compare. You should see Makkelie in Turpin's game and the contrary, to do that.

  24. Why does Turpin blow his whistle like he has no Oxygen to do so more evidently in the first and last whistle of the game. He gives a vibe of non interest in the game, I could hardly hear them.

    1. Execution of final whistle was horrible, he couldn't blow for some reasons!

  25. Good performance by Turpin, 1 miss YC in the first half. As we predicted, the game is intense. Overall good job for the referee team.

  26. Good job by Turpin. I think we could only notice missed offside by AR1, corrected by VAR. Good disciplinary control and foul detection.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Mistake by AR1 is even good for the start of the tournament. A close call corrected, fast and correct intervention. (Easy VAR call)
No debate about it, good start for VAR-project.

  28. Offside was a lot closer than it initially looked:
