  1. England or Germany after R16 have a highway for final. In this case Brych/Taylor may be excluded from SF/F.

Now we have a picture Taylor/Brych witg SF and Kuipers for final, I think that is most probability.

    1. I think it's Brych/Taylor/Cakir for the final, Kuipers max SF, Hope QF Will be his maximum.

    2. To me Cakir has no chance to get the final. Rosetti doesn't trust him anymore. Final will go to Kuipers, Brych, Taylor or Orsato.

    3. @kosino94 your bias against Kuipers is clear now, thanks!

Lets wait for the next performances before we talk about the referee for the final. Taylor did a good job yesterday, hopefully Brych will do the same tonight.

    4. I have nothing against Kuipers, he is one of my favourite referees for last ten years. But he is not so good ať this time like some his colleagues. He missed clear penalty in Slovakia - Spain. He had some problems in WC 2018 too (bad penalty call in Brazil - Costa Rica). Some of his fans are not objective: if he would miss another two or three penalties or Red cards in his nexts matches, they Will still say "oh, Kuipers for final."

  2. My prediction:

    QF: Kuipers, Vincic, Taylor, Cakir

    SF: Brych and Makkelie

    Final: Kuipers

  3. Guys, I can not believe that all of you thinks that Kuipers is in the final already. Rappallini have more right to speak about final than Kuipers. I respect the Kuipers, but he need to prove that on the pitch. Do you think that on Euro 2016 wasn't bigger names than Clatts. Yes, but he deserved final on pitch. That's all, merit, merit, merit....

    1. In the replay there was less contact than I thought live.

    2. And he gets the ball first. So in my opinion only missed foul and possible YC.

      Delete
    3. Maybe a foul, but no YC

      Delete
    4. I am very surprised, Witsel was hit slightly above his ankle with high intensity. For me it is definitely a YC. One cannot ignore the danger of this tackle.

      Delete
    5. OK, my perception was that the main impact was on the foot (but indeed not clear from the angle shown) and then slided up the leg. And I also only saw low to medium intensity.
By your description, it should indeed be a YC.

  9. So far no clearly missed YC in a fair game IMO. Even the handball was no YC as the German TV commentator suggested, no intention to play the ball. For me even the freekick just acceptable.
Let's wait and see if Brych's "soft line" pays back.

    ReplyDelete
  10. In this fair Match, I think it was supportable to not show any YC yet

  13. So far: the situation in 16' or 17' in my opinion was foul and YC for Portuguese player. I was surpeised that Brych assessed it as accidental collision, he didn't even stop the game for the injury of both players. OK, maybe it wasn't needed, but I don't think he had exact perception of what had happened.
Another point for discussion is possible YC for the handball, in my opinion according to replay it was rather a not punishable handball, but once whistled one can't look at this. It must be punished according to the circumstances, and in my opinion SPA was possible (but maybe not 100% mandatory). However, nothing extra-ordinary in a game with a very few fouls so far.

    ReplyDelete
  14. Prediction:

    QF: Cakir, Vincic, Cerro, Makkelie
    SF: Taylor, Brych
    F: Kuipers

  15. Missed foul and YC-SPA for POR25 or correct advantage?

    ReplyDelete

    1. No advantage. Clear SPA missed

    2. Better to whistle foul, in my opinion. I didn't see advantage gesture.

      Delete
  16. Another clear missed foul and yc for foul on Lukaku. This one is even more blatant. Things not looking good for Brych.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Repeated and blatant holding on Lukaku... missed YC by Brych. Foul should have been whistled, the player from Belgium was very fair trying to resist.

    ReplyDelete

    1. Agree. He saw that but surprising that the says "no, play on"

  18. Holding against Lukaku now. Ok, Brych gave the advantage, but afterwards IMO he should book the defender. What do you think?

    ReplyDelete

    1. No advantage for me and YC should been given immediately

      Delete
    2. He just let the game play on he didn’t make and advantage gesture.

      Delete
  19. Another clear YC missed for holding Lukaku. Brych not sharp tonight with foul detection and seems to have already taken his loss towards Kuipers. He can even loose his ticket for SF.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Absolutely. Impossible for Brych to handle final with such a poor display.

      Delete
  20. No SPA from POR26? In my opinion missed FK and mandatory YC.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Even if Brych is playing advantage for shirt pull on Lukaku, it HAS to be a YC for shirt pulling.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Missed foul and YC IMO. Lukkaku was stopped at least twice . No adventage IMO

    ReplyDelete
  23. No advantage at all. There had to be a foul and Palhinha had to be booked.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Brych has full match control and acceptance by the players but he is very, very lenient today – too lenient in terms of foul detection and disciplinary control. Actually, he whistles almost nothing.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Indeed to be honest I'm not liking this attitude, he is in control so far, but too many things allowed!

      Delete
    2. Me neither but maybe he wants to show UEFA that he is able to perform with few cards. He has the reputation of a strict referee with many cards in his matches. It is possible that he thinks his chances for something big would be better if he showed to be able to lead a match with fewer cards.

Now, mandatory YC and good advantage for Belgium, very intense tackle.

      Delete
    2. That's just ridiculous. Do you have a face cam on Brych?

      Delete
    3. Ridiculous. I don't think he cares about Netherlands elimination. Some small mistakes, but no crucial (for example no missing penalty which had to be corrected by VAR 😊)

      Delete
  26. It’s like he doesn’t want to give a yellow card so he completely ignores fouls…

    ReplyDelete
  27. Guys relax!!!
A referee cannot whistle what he did not see.
It was a swift counter, and the Brych was behind the play. There's no possible way he could have spotted the tug on Lukaku. It's not a great deal.

So everyone should stop overreacting. The referee is having a great game by the way.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Finally one good comment. A missed yellow card is discussd as if Brych missed a decisive penalty

      Delete
  28. Ι have a question. Is it possible that we have English referee in the final? I am asking because we had an english referee and in 2016.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Now a reckless tackle from behind on a counterattack should be YC afterwards.

    ReplyDelete
  30. I have the feeling he does not want to have a card Festival. I checked all situations, for me 2 missed YCs.
Now correct decision, this YC was dark yellow.

    ReplyDelete
  31. What???? Palhinha now booked? He just touches the ball....no way, Mr Brych! I like him but not like this...

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Playing the ball is not a permission to attack a player. Therefore foul and YC absolutely correct to me

      Delete
    2. Did you even watch how he got all of his weight on his leg after? You need to watch again, clear foul.

      Delete
    3. That's a mandatory YC. He plays the ball, but also much the Belgian player with his second leg.

      Delete
    4. This was a very mandatory YC maybe even close to SFP (but I agree no stuff for VAR).

      Delete
    5. Guys, can only see Palhinha touching the ball.

      Delete
    6. Palhinha just touched the ball indeed.

      Delete
    7. You have to watch the incident until the end! If you rewatch the replays you will understand the YC. And if you won't understand it then you should question yourself.

      Delete
    8. Very, very questionable foul. I lean towards a mistake.

      Delete
    9. I lean much more towards a SFP than no foul.

      Delete
  32. Even though the foul on Lukaku could have been punished with a YC, apart from that, Brych has the absolute right approach for the Game. The players are obviously okay with his line.
The first YC was a no doubter anyway

    ReplyDelete
  33. Pretty inconsistent performance from Brych. Leaves fouls unpunished, at least two YCs missed. He seems lost on his twisted criterion.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Even if you don't agree with this decisions, I think one can't say that his line is inconsitent. He clearly choose a "soft line" and sticks to it for the whole half.

      Delete
    2. He gives fouls for certain incidents and doesn't them afterwards for the very same incidents. He is indeed lost. He usually folloes a very strict line and is trying to adapt it. He is faltering so far. This booking on Palhinha is unacceptable.

      Delete
  34. Brych really lacking attention tonight. Hope Netherlands being eliminated is not disturbing him. Very inconsistent first half.

    ReplyDelete

    1. Do you really think Brych cares about Netherlands out?
      Would be absurd!

      Delete
    2. He means that hopefully Brych thinks that he is still in with a chance of getting the final despite the fact that all signs are now pointing towards Kuipers getting the final as Netherlands are eliminated.

      Delete
  35. Now missed YC for foul on Lukaku gets even more important

    ReplyDelete
  36. Palhinha booked for a foul that did not even exist. It seems Brych is trying to manage the game insted of applying the laws of the game but has no feeling for that.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. If this isn't a foul, then breaking bones is a YC.

      Delete
    2. Palhinha touches the ball. Only. I think it was even embarassing to see Brych sanction that.

      Delete
    3. Didn't you see the contact with defender's second leg? Please rewatch the replays!

      Delete
  37. Brych is my favourite, but to be honest, tonight he isn’t at his best. Too many small mistakes and clear yellow cards missed. Also the advantage after a very reckless tackle on defending half is far by clever. I am afraid after tonight he has small chances on a next appointment, unless second half becomes a masterclass.

    ReplyDelete
  38. The ref is allowing the game flow, and is ignoring players who are trying to win a cheap fk by play acting like Ronaldo did earlier in the game.

Good advantage played and excellent YC for foul on De Bruyne.

For me the referee has had an EXCELLENT first half. It's a KO game between two very top teams, it's not a high school game. We do NOT want refs teo kill the passion of a game. And I like the referee's approach in allowing the game to flow. So you guys should chill and enjoy an old fashioned passion filled game.

Excellent, I repeat, excellent performance so far from Brych.

    2. IMO it was not a good first half by Brych. Too many missed fouls and two clear YC.

      Delete
  39. I don‘t think that his foul detection was that bad, but there are two mandatory YC missed for portuguese players. Apart from that a solid and accepted performance, but without many issues. Therefore I would say we saw a display that was slightly below average but nothing serious.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Palhinha should have been sent off, considering the two incidents. That's a crucial mistake from Brych. Totally off tonight

    ReplyDelete
  41. These Kuipers fans getting more funny every day:)) what a stupid comments,, Brych iş great so far

    ReplyDelete
  42. Not very impressive first half for Brych. Seems like he doesn’t fully control the game and players feel this. Second half will be extremely difficult with such unclear even accidental strategy of foul detection.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Some here argue as if Brych made several crucial mistakes. Maybe some would like him ending in the tournament today? The comment that he might not be interested in the game cause the Dutch lost before is absolutely unacceptable, to say it in a diplomatic way.
If we cannot agree here on the fact, that every ref gives his best in the interest of a fair match then we should close the discussion here.
And Brych wasn't bad, so far. 2 missed YCs. Full control, an acceptable performance so far.
And PLEASE STOP DISCUSSING WHO GETS THE FINAL NOW. IT IS MUCH TOO EARLY FOR THAT. Let's talk about that after the quarterfinals, not before.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Let's please not exaggerate and presume to know what Dr. Brych is thinking. Let's simply discuss the decisions and keep it professional. Also by no means should we be ashamed of this performance - refereeing is NOT easy and I'm convinced that everyone is doing their very best.

    ReplyDelete
  45. I'm sorry but I don't agree at all. You guys make it look like he had a disastrous performance so far. In my opinion it was quite good actually. He let the game flow and chose a very lenient approach. For sure that holding offence on Lukaku could have been punished but he does make a pass that just doesn't make it's way to the other attacker. Apart from that he is in full control and players definitely accept and respect his approach so far.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Not impressed at all by Felix Brych. The incident involving Palhinha and Lukaku is unacceptable at this level!

    ReplyDelete
  47. How can people comment that he has acceptance? Several players were complaining, making gestures and Ronaldo threw the ball away after a referee decision. The coach of Belgium was protesting at the 4th official. Acceptance?

    ReplyDelete
  48. The only clear error that Brych made in this 1st half is the missed YC for Palhinha's tug on Lukaku. And it is understandable because he was behind the counter attack, and his vision was obstructed.

Aside from this, Brych has been CONSISTENT so far in this game. Some people on this blog enjoy watching a referee's mistakes more than enjoying a physical and passionate football match.

Brych has had an EXCELLENT EXCELLENT 1st half. Football is a contact sport, and physicality is permitted, as long as it's not a foul.

More of the same in the 2nd half, referee Brych!!!

  54. I am certainly not that negative about the first half.
Brych went for a VERY lenient approach to fouls and sanctions. IMO he lost it a bit, because he exaggerated that line, ignoring some textbook infringements (especially holding offence against BEL).
The foul detection is surely the weakest aspect of that performance so far. I'm a bit shocked to see that some commenters assess the YC (reckless/SPA) as wrong - I think he did well, when he allowed the advantage and issued a delayed YC.
What is fascinating for me is that Brych has the full control over the match and a very high level of acceptance, although the assessment of duels was quite questionable sometimes. So all in all, a bit below expectations, but surely a satisfying display for me.

  60. What's going on here? Just read thru the comments and this is crazy. For me he missed a YC for the pull on Lukaku and otherwise he had a very good game so far. No idea what some of you are talking about...

    1. I have no idea what you are talking about. We have very very high expectation on Brych, but he had missed many fouls in the first half, and again and again in the second half. IMO this is terrible for Brych, who is acknowledged that one of the best referees in the world

    2. Terrible indeed from Brych.

      Delete
    3. If you're assessing everything based on the textbook then yes. I don't care about the textbook though. If you assess it in the context of this tournament then the number reduces down to maybe 2 or 3 fouls.

      Delete
    4. Well I am not talking about textbook but that is a very very clear foul and YC must be given, this is what the "rule" is, anyway Brych's performance is not convincing at all and from my point of view, this is the last game for him in this EURO

    ReplyDelete
  67. And again: A YC definetly justified (first shirt pulling, second shooting the ball away in a very disrespectful manner) at the perfect moment to calm the game down is deemed as a wrong decision by almost every comment here. Why can‘t some people comment fairly and argue objectively?

    1. +1. Thanks Jonas. You are one of those arguing with respect in the interest of fair games, not in the interest of special careers of whomever.

  68. I am a bit disgusted by some comments (mostly from anonymous bloggers) who even compare Brych with being "criminal". Unacceptable. Why the polemic, maybe some users are not able to criticise a performance fairly.
I did not like the extremely lenient approach in first half too but let me say it that way: If he chose the strict approach, he could have given about 5 YCs in first half. What would UEFA prefer, 5 YCs in the first half and maybe some annoyed players because of the cards or 1 YC and full match control?
By the way, German referees are very (!) strict in terms of kicking the ball away. Generally, they give a YC immediately even if the ball is only kicked away for 3-5 metres.

  70. Some commenters on this page are just so desperate in tearing a referee to pieces, for any tiny incident that they see as an error.

And some others hiding behind an 'anonymous' moniker also enjoy attacking other people's comments, without any form of objectivity.

It's alright to criticize a referee's performance, but it's NEVER right to attack the referee (or a fellow commenter) personally.

  92. Game is heating up. Brych is doing great at this hectic minutes but we have to ask ourselves if he could have avoided that with a stricter approach before. Hopefully he won‘t lose control now.

  93. What a crazy game! I think Brych recognized a need for a authoritative approach, I hope we wont witness the loss of control.

  94. What do you expect, guys? Players shaking hands in a KO-stage match with score 1–0? Portugal's players are not easy either. Mass confrontation was caused because they did not hear Brych's whistle some seconds before.
Only thing Brych must improve: to be closer to the incidents in such a challenging match.

  95. Very tough game for Brych. But, which ref can do better than him ? Nobody in this tournament.
Many here are very critical. Calm guys !
Yes Brych is too indulgent and for this game, it wasn't the good approach...

    1. Rapallini and (maybe) Kuipers in his good days

    2. Although I admire Kuipers, he has had a lot of trouble lately managing matches with tension. For Rapallini, displays too important for a non-UEFA referee who is "invited" into the tournament.

  96. Brych calls and shows cards for what he needs to. Best referee in Europe at present.

  97. I hope that Portugal scores. We will have trully amazing additional 30 minutes

  98. Taking a step back this is one of the most exciting games of this tournament. No one will be talking about the ref after the game! (as of now)

    1. Agreed, we saw an extremely challenging match, definitely the most challenging one. Great to watch as a spectator. Everyone will talk about the match, not about Felix Brych. UEFA knew why they appointed Brych. It was far from faultless but, considering that matches with Portugal are always difficult, he could prevent that the match escalated completely. I am not sure whether some other referees could have done anything more than that.

  99. Brych tonight same poor level as Lahoz. Believe my words. He will not have a match any more this tournament. UEFA committee will not be happy about his performance.

    1. If Germany doesn't make it to the semis I can guarantee you that he will get another game. The difference is that people were talking about Lahoz after the game. No one will be talking about Brych

    2. What happend with Lahoz? And which game do you mean in detail?

    3. No one talked aboit Lahoz in the end. There was no controversy whatsoever.

    4. Portugal-France : penalty missed at 92' (and RC) and simulation by Mbappe at 47'
1st penalty : Mateu was moving from everywhere, all excited and losing control. And the RC was arguing against Lloris

  100. The main issue here is control and the question I ask is "Is the referee in control?" The answer is for me is no and that's indicated by the players flaring up and players leaving their foot in challenges unpunished which is see retaliation.
His urgency to challenges is waning and I think as the temperature of the match has risen, he has been slow to do the same meaning he has not gotten on top of it. For such and accomplished referee, its unusual but I think he is sitting within the game and not on top of it. The players are in control here.
Sadly, either the players have to calm down (which looking at the game is unlikely) or the game needs a bigger sanction to wrestle control

  101. I think Brych has done a great job of taking control every time the game has heated up. Good use of cards in heated periods.

The more unfortunate part is that many of the heated situations has happened in situations where Brych has failed to do what players expected or whistled late.

But overall he has kept the game under control, but not totally convincing

  102. After such a great match to watch, I think of this sentence: "Wow, what a game!" Maybe someone remembers what I am referring to.

  103. Overall performance below expectations. Brych was not the same as his first two matches. He showed his quality he did in Bundesliga this season.. average.

  104. It's clear Brych underperformed tonight. Can't see him getting another game unless Rosetti doesn't follow the performance principle. He deserves to go home.

  105. Dr.Brych didn’t let the game go out of control by changing his strategy to much more authoritarian one. But overall this performance is disappointing as the German didn’t have a clear understanding what he allows to the players and what not. This almost turned into mess, but eventually Brych did everything not to be the main person to be remembered after the final whistle.

  106. Brych still managed very hard match without any big mistakes any without any big controversies... I think UEFA will be ok with his performance.

    ReplyDelete
  107. Ok, things are next. Extremely good performance by Brych. Match full under control. If somebody thinks that good for this match would be just issuing of YC, he is wrong(full of respect). Second thing, I would like to please every possible gentelman from Kuipers fan club to be more meritocratic and said that there are at least three better refs than him at the moment at Euro(Vincic,Rappallini,Danny). I respect Kuipers fans, but I would like to please them if they want to support Bjorn so strong, they should make fan page for that. Gentelmans that comment here try to give their best to express objective opinion about officiating. Third thing- Kuipers fans should be aware that potential progress of Belgium also can cost Kuipers final, not just his performance. And most important as I know to said from start of this Euro 2020( Magic Euro in officiating way) that we have best Euro ever refereed. Enjoy in Euro 2020, and officiating on it. Cheers.

  108. UEFA knew that this will be the most challenging match of this tournament so far. So they appointed Brych and they reached their goal: Public won't talk about the referee after the match. So everything is totally fine.
