  1. Appointments deserved for Vincic and Hategan
I waiting Turpin and Brych... They deserve a 2nd appointment...

  2. Important match for Vincic, once again showing the big trust that UEFA has in him currently.
Hategan a normal appointment in a less important game.

    1. Well, the difference between teams is 2 points, and the winner gets 3, so I wouldnt say Hategan's game is less important.

    2. Why Switzerland - Turkey is more important than Italy - Wales? Turkey has 0 chance to go for the next round. And the Wales could get the first place if they win in Rome. i think Hategan game is more important than Vincic.

    3. The answer has already been given below by Chefren and others:
SUI and TUR both need to win to keep a chance for qualification (TUR still can manage it from 3rd place), while ITA is already qualified and WAL is nearly safe with 4 points. So in ITA-WAL both teams probably are happy with a draw. Of course, it is not unimportant, otherwise I wouldn't have called it a normal appointment for Hategan. :)

    4. Also, there is clearly some history between these teams!

  3. I'm wondering if Grinfeeld and Ekberg are both out for a 2nd appointment, so that a referee will get a 3rd appointment (Makkelie, Lahoz?)

    1. I guess they will try to cover most important games with Turpin,Kuipers, Vincic, Cakir and maybe even Karasev after a very good performance, and then save Makkelie and Lahoz for KO. But we will see also how the results will unravel.

    2. I'm pretty sure now that 1 if not 2 will now get 3 games judging by these appointments, there surely is no option.

    3. Would be deserved. Two weakest performances were these of Ekberg and Grinfeeld.

    1. I think Kovacs will be in Amsterdam on Monday.

    2. to my point of view, he will be appointed for decided match, for example Netherlands - N. Macedonia

  5. Switzerland - Turkey is in my opinion more important than Italy - Wales because in the latter game we have Italy already qualified (it is not so much important whether group winner or runner up) and Wales very close to this achievement. The real battle is between Turkey and Switzerland, with the latter team having still a chance for being runner up in the group, but they must manage to score many goals and hope. I was about to predict indeed Kovacs for this group, in my opinion he could have been OK for Italy - Wales as well... but committee very likely will appoint him in Netherlands - North Macedonia.

    1. totally agree with that and I believe it shows that Vincic has the full trust of the committee. I would almost bet that we will see him again in the KO stage (give a good performance in this game)

    2. And don't forget... Suisse and Turkish team had a VERY ugly clash in the past, really scandalous... Dont remember when, some years ago.

  6. I expect Brych in London. I wouldn't underrate the factor of venue. Wembley got Orsato and Lahoz so far. Nice atmosphere, epic stadium at their last international games... for Brych, it would be same. So I expect his team in Czechia-England.

  7. Side note: Remember de Bleeckere in Suisse-Turkey ahead WC2006. A very tough game with much history. Giving this match to Slavko shows how much they trust and appreciate him. I see a QF coming for him, minimum.

  8. On balance, I would say the two games work out as equally "important".

While SUITUR promises to be a harder game to ref (atmosphere in Baku, history of the teams, but especially group standings), ITAWAL will largely have more media focus, and a mistake / bad performance there would, per se, be felt harder for UEFA than in the other game.

Both are perfect appointments IMO too :)

    1. One could say that Hategan will take the spotlights while Vinčić will do the "dirty work". But still, in my opinion Baku's game is by far more important, because in most of the circumstances Wales could qualify even in case of defeat against Italy. It is Switzerland that should manage qualification (more difficult for Turkey). But, as you said, more focus by media in Italy - Wales, definitely, so this also explains why the Romanian will be there.
To add, in my opinion Hategan's group stage is not so extra-ordinary so far, normal assignments for him, one could have expected more, let's see whether he will manage a KO appearance.

    2. I am not so sure about media focus, because I would expect, that in most countries SUI-TUR will be the game chosen by the main broadcaster.
And I completely agree with Chefren's last paragraph.

    3. OK, I withdraw my statement, because I just saw, that the German broadcaster will show ITA-WAL, probably because they prefer travelling to Rome over Baku...

    4. I agree with Mikael W - both games are equally important. But possible mistakes would affect much more Hategan than Vincic. The last one however has more chances to do it.

  10. Sui-Tur is obviously more important game because even if Wal lose the game they are qualified %90 by third placement. But for Sui they have to win the game. Also Turkey can have very very low chance.

  11. Possible third appointment in MD3 for Mateu and Orsato? I think yes.

    1. I don’t think Orsato because of fitness. Probably Lahoz or Makkelie. But in principle there is no need to give a referee 3 matches, as there are 19 referees. However, not all are elite and maybe this makes the difference.

    2. Considering their age (and Orsato's not perfect physical condition), I think it is not a good idea to use them so much in such a short period of time: they are two of the four "top" (the other two are Kuipers and Brych), I assume they will be saved for QF/SF. There are so many excellent refs!

  12. Two deserved appointments. Especially Vincic's shows his big trust by commitee.

  13. Guys, what about the romanian Istvan Kovacs? If not now, when?
