  1. Good preventive action by Siebert in the early minutes. That is what I meant yesterday in AUT-MKD.

  2. Are there broadcaster issues in your countries for this game? I can't watch properly it!

  3. Fully quiet first half for Siebert, he didn't whistle more than 5 or 6 fouls overall, I think. As written by Ref_1707 good management of players at the beginning of the game, but then after that probably the least challenging first half for a referee so far.
In the last second of the half, a penalty appeal by Scotland, but definitely nothing happened there. It was rather attacker going against defender, would have been a very soft if not totally wrong penalty.

    1. Agreed, nothing to report. Maybe one or two missed fouls but definitely nothing important. Siebert allows quite a lot, until now this is good for the game. Correct to reject the penalty appeal in 45'.

    2. As a Scotland fan my only real complaint is when the ref prevented a quick free kick just before halftime to give the Czech player a warning. Why not play on and speak later? As the Czech player got exactly what he wanted!

  4. IMO defender deliberately block a free kick should be produced a YC. Overall, very good performance by Siebert.

  5. For me, correct decision by Siebert, no penalty

  6. Two correct no penalty decisions at 32' and 45+1'. Hand was close to body in the first and it was the attacker who anticipated and created contact in the second incident.

Furthermore, very good management after conflict at 5', something that Ekberg missed so much yesterday. At 9', a stronger reaction should have followed after a late challenge from behind. At 25' and 26' there were two careless stamps missed (the first miss was rather AR2's fault). I'm OK with a warning after delaying the restart at 44'.

Not much challenging overall but two key match incidents already. Could be a nice second half.

  7. So basically if you're a player who wants to stop a quick free kick, you just try to do it and if you don't succeed the ref will stop the game anyway?

    1. From the players perspective, they will do anything that shows advantage for their teams.

  8. Good match for Siebert. A very young ref in this tournament and a well leaded match for the moment.

  9. Similar to yesterday Ukraine-Netherlands, this game is very enjoyable to watch. Fans will have a lot of discussion of the game itself but nothing on the referee. Very well done by Siebert and the entire referee team.

  10. In the second half, Siebert was less challenged than in the first half, as described above at 15:58. Correct no penalty call at 58' after alleged charging, missed handball leading to a goal scoring opportunity at 66' and missed yellow card for reckless use of arm at 73' were the only incidents worth mentioning. I found Siebert a good manager, smartly slowing down the game when needed in order to avoid the atmosphere heating up. His foul detection was not optimal at times but nothing serious (apart from the missing caution for reckless elbow). Well done, second game possible.

  11. I cannot say a lot about second half as I could watch with one eye only but from what I have seen, Daniel Siebert managed the game fairly well. There were some minor mistakes but if we consider how he communicated, how preventive he was, we can say that he showed why he got the opportunity to be part of EURO. Sometimes he has some issues with acceptance, allowing too much, but this was definitely not the case today. I cannot evaluate the possible YC in 66' as I have not seen it, however, it can be a positive sign that he was able to end the match without a single YC. I hope he will get another opportunity on MD2/3, I am quite sure Rosetti will be satisfied.

Now, I am a bit curious. When will we have the first OFR?

    1. Here we go again - 'it can be a positive sign that he was able to end the match without a single YC'. Guys, if you have issues with showing cards when needed, just change your job.

    2. Of course ‘it can be a positive sign being able to end the match without a single YC’. That could mean that the referee managed play and players very efficiently in such a way that no fouls occurred requiring a disciplinary sanction. It becomes problematic when mandatory sanctions are not issued (deliberately).
And to be honest I think you understand perfectly well what Ref_1707 meant…

  12. Not a referee I’ve ever seen live or know well, so it was good to see Siebert in action.

    Lots of positives:
    - Calm, confident body language
    - Not influenced by unpopular decisions against home team
    - Clear communication
    - Proactive to prevent escalation when needed.
    - ARs looked good, sharp, and followed ref’s lead in terms of tolerance (soft ‘fouls’ etc)

Comments about CZE players preventing free kicks being taken was right - at one point he stopped play to ‘warn’ which actually helped the offending team. I think a more public warning (followed by a YC next time it happened) may have helped, as it was unsporting (and annoying!)

Couple of stamps on feet were missed but quite hard to spot in real time - one or two knew what they were doing …!

Like that he kept play going - in line with tournament - not giving ‘soft’ free kicks. Think occasionally a more ‘diplomatic’/safe free kick would have helped.

Overall - solid performance which he will be pleased with in his first tournament.
