Yet again Orsato getting in the way early on.
ReplyDeleteOT: Big number of readers here thinks that Kuipers is assigned already for the final. Well, you need to know that there are three scenaiors that can cost him. They are: weaker performance, progression of Netherlands and progression of Belgium. All of you knows that advantage of Belgium In sf of world cup cost him final as referee. Be careful. There was so much better performances than his, so there are other referees...

ReplyDeletePast results don't count in a final tournament. Performance stands on its own. So far most referees have made a good impression in the group matches. Selection will only make the difference after the group stage. The big names may have an advantage but is certainly not decisive. So far these are the big favorites for the final based on their performance which went without any issues:

Orsato doubtful because of fitness.
The matches in round of 16 and quarter finals will make the difference who will be the referee for the final. Until now they all had normal matches regarding difficulty.
It’s still too early to predict.
Brych?? He is not a good option for a final. He mistakes football for a festival card. Would ruin it.

DeleteAlmost all referees are passive and clearly not showing a lot of cards. It’s obvious now that they have received instructions. And to be honest I like it.
DeleteMakkelie was praised for the not given handball in the opening match. And after him we saw his colleagues following him with similar handball situations. I agree with you that he have more time, however this shouldn’t be the reason. He did 8 CL matches this season (most of all) ending with QF and SF. So for sure he is a big candidate! Brych and Kuipers are ahead. After Clattenburg it will not be an Englishman again. Lahoz could be an outsider, but his match England Scotland wasn’t his best.
People saying Brych guarantees a card festival haven't seen Felix Brych's games in the last years. In NED-UKR he gave 1 YC.

DeleteWell, I respect Kuipers, probably one of the best referees all the time, but it is necessary to say that he was on the top few years ago. His current form is weaker than Brych's, compared to performances in Belgium - Denmark vs. Netherlands - Ukraine. My favourite candidate for the final (if Germany ends earlier) is Dr. Brych. He deserves it for his great career (especially after he was absurdly sent home from last WC after only one match).

DeleteBrych is one of the best referees of his generation.
Cakir had less challenging game, so Brych's performance was higher, I believe this is not only my personal opinion, but also UEFA's.

You're just a Brych fan. I was quite clear and you simply had no answer :). Brych is a real danger in any final. Btw, Cakir's game was indeed the most challenging one and that was assumed by the majority on the blog, all the more so the stadium was full in Budapest. It looks like you always enter an alternative reality to dedend a super inconsistent referee like Brych who had to be kicked out of a World Cup. Have a good day ;)

DeleteI can't really figure out why but somehow I think Orsato is so far below expectations. Seems to me inconsistent in foul selection. Therefore he missed the reckless stamp from Morata, didn't really identified Glik as the only troublemaker on the field and I have some doubt also regarding the YC he gave to Klich.

Wouldn't blame AR1 for the wrong offside call, it was very tight. The corner signaling was not the best in the extra time as even the players didn't notice first that they awarded the corner. He didn't signal that the ball left the field, just pointed on the cornerflag. But that's minor thing what nobody cares probably. :D
Looks like Orsato is not fully focused on the match. I expected a much stronger non-verbal language. Still, up to snuff so far.
ReplyDeleteI think, Orsato had no real problems with that match/match control. However, the foul detection and the choice of disciplinary measures seemed a bit off sometimes. The YC issued was (very) soft in my view.

Are you serious? Why should he be sure? There are othere big names like Lahoz or Brych (and no he doesn‘t make a card festival if you look at the statistics). Of course Kuipers belongs to the favorites but a lot can happen: Netherlands can go far, Kuipers can have a bad game or the names I mentioned above just perform equally well or better.
DeleteKuipers first match wasn’t convincing at all. Too many small mistakes, some troubles with foul detection and two missed YC’s. Besides this he, Dias and Cerro are the three referees who had clear protest of players.

DeleteOrsato and his AR missed everything! No offside, clear foul prior Poland goal, and penalty. Everyone could whistle the game when VAR corrects everything. Foul prior goal was so obvious and this Var stuff/no VAR stuff is a joke.

I don't think Orsato will end his EURO 100%, because the two mistakes were either impossible for a human (AR1's mistake) or went unnoticed by everyone on the pitch (penalty after OFR). The performance has been poor so far IMO and affected by these two mistakes. Not the most fit running style but always in control and close to play. Perhaps he will receive one last match like the least interesting round of 16 or so. Let's remember that also other referees made mistakes (Cakir's HUNPOR was not perfect, Makkelie's ITATUR had a very controversial handball and the 'joke' we all know...)

DeleteSorry, but tonight’s performance simply was not up to expectations IMO, with disciplinary management absolutely insufficient.
And some comments here about Brych are absolutely ridiculous, but can only be explained knowing they come from some fan base, not from experts. "Card-festival“??? Brych tries to give the players a long line and let the matches flow AS LONG AS POSSIBLE. But if the players constantly cross the boarders, he acts clearly and harsh to protect the law of the game and their bones. That's nothing but his duty.

I can't see why his EURO should end now. Del Cerro had a tough match and his performance was poor, but he was given a second chance. The same should be done with Orsato. Having a bad night could happen to everyone, and We all know these two refs are able to handle top matches as they have done in the past. Orsato's match tonight has been difficult and there were no unjustifiable mistakes, nobody will talk about the referee thanks to VAR. Other referees like Turpin and Lahoz had easier matches and this should be taken into account.

This does not mean that Karasev should get a SF while e.g. Del Cerro should be sent home after one bad performance in a top game. In fact, he had a second chance considering the difficulty of the match he had, and his EURO ended because of two bad performances in a row. Orsato performed very well in ENG-CRO and was praised by the players and media at the end of the match, but tonight his performance was poor in a tough match mainly due to the 2 mistakes. Are we really sure that Kuipers/Brych/Lahoz etc. would have spotted that penalty live (really nobody noticed on the pitch) and their ARs getting that close offside right? If not, we would be talking about Turpin ending his EURO now, but he will continue because he had easy matches (despite an AR's mistake corrected by VAR)
DeleteIn my view it’s not the 2 VAR-corrected decisions which spoiled his performance, but inconsistent foul detection, issues keeping in control the first 10-15 minutes after half time, and especially disciplinary management which was clearly below expected level.

Without VAR interventions and with his authority, Orsato manages to control the game, but techically I do not understand completely criteria for some play on decision after tripping, pulling etc.

DeleteAfter 24 games at EURO 2020, there has been a total of 9 VAR interventions to correct decisions. 4 of these for offside, 1 to cancel a goal for handball, another 4 to assign penalties not whistled, with OFR.
