UEFA EURO 2020 - Referee predictions - Matchday 1

EURO 2020 is coming in a few days and we have organized a game for you. Feel free to participate.

Since there were many requests on the blog, we have managed a competition for EURO 2020.
The first thing we want to say is that we are really sorry for the extreme delay of this publication.
You have to guess the exact referee for each game by filling in a form. Just insert your name, or, if you want, a nickname (it must be always the same for all your future predictions) and then for each game just select the referee

Send your predictions here:
***** time is over

The first deadline for all games of Matchday 1, given the delay and the particular situation, will be known when the first names will be published. The predictions sent after that (official time will be checked) will not be accepted.

Points will be assigned according to the following pattern:

10 points for having guessed the exact referee of a match
5 points if a guessed referee for a game will be appointed as fourth official
2 points if a referee is appointed in the other game of the group
1 point if a referee is appointed for the same matchday

A special thank to our reader Philipp, who encouraged us in creating this game, he will be responsible for collecting your predictions as well.
The modules for next matchdays will follow in due course.

    1. Well, to be fair, I think most EURO 2020 prediction games have the same matches to predict ;-)

  2. All I know is that it won’t be Cakir and it won’t be Orsato 😂

    1. due to covid problem the solution isn't impossibile ahahah

    2. I meant neither Cakir or Orsato can referee Turkey vs Italy

    3. Yes but given COVID issues, UEFA has made clear that in extra-ordinary cases and extremely particular conditions, it will be possible to see a referee from a country officiating his national team. Having said that, given the number of selected officials, this should not happen.

    4. Oh wow, didn’t know that. History could be made!

  5. Anybody know when the first appointment will be officially released? Tomorrow or Thursday?

  6. In UEFA EURO 2016 appointments were realised three days before matches. So i think today we'll know referee team for TUR-ITA.

    2. You are missing the BOGAR-Tamas (hun)

    3. I have heard that UEFA wanted an experienced referee for the opener Turkey - Italy who is very familiar with both teams. After having studied www.11v11.com, Roberto Rosetti decided to appoint Romanian Radu Petrescu (38) who already handled the same (then: friendly) match in March 1984 at the age of 15 months:

    4. Peter you are very special :)

    5. BOGAR-Tamas (Hun) seems a serious candidate for all matches.
I heard Austria-Croatia will be done by Pieter VINK (NED) can someone confirm?

    1. I agree with that. The disadvantage of a prediction game vs something more like a poll or predictions in the comments is, that one can't see the tendencies and discuss about them, e.g. if someone predicts Brych for BEL-RUS, one could debate, whether that's possible after 2014.

Therefore I copy mine from the other thread:
TUR-ITA: Mateu Lahoz - del Cerro Grande - Hernandez Hernandez, Martinez Munuera, Prieto LdC, Sanchez Martinez (all ESP)
WAL-SUI: Makkelie - Kuipers - Blom, van Boekel (all NED), Pages (FRA), Hernandez Hernandez (ESP)
DEN-FIN: Kovacs (ROU) - Jovanovic (SRB) - Gil (POL), Dankert, Gittelmann (both GER), Brisard (FRA)
BEL-RUS: Soares Dias (POR) - Orsato (ITA) - Pinheiro (POR), Letexier (FRA), Meli, di Bello (both ITA)
ENG-CRO: Cakir (TUR) - Grinfeeld (ISR) - Irrati, di Bello, Meli, Valeri (all ITA)
AUT-MKD: Karasev (RUS) - Massa (ITA) - Dankert, Fritz, Gittelmann, Dingert (all GER)
NED-UKR: Rapallini (ARG) - Frappart (FRA) - Sanchez Martinez, Hernandez Hernandez, Prieto LdC, Martinez Munuera (all ESP)
SCO-CZE: Ekberg (SWE) - Kabakov (BUL) - Martinez Munuera, Sanchez Martinez, Prieto LdC, Hernandez Hernandez (all ESP)
POL-SVK: Siebert - Brych - Dingert, Dankert, Gittelmann, Fritz (all GER)

  19. I predict Brych or Lahoz on the opening game. This particular match is often seen as one of the important matches. The referee sets the standards for the whole tournament. I therefore expect an experienced referee in whom UEFA has a lot of trust. Earlier we have already experienced that a referee who did the opening game was also appointed for the final, namely: Pitana (WC2018) and Rosetti (2008).

    1. However, in the last two EUROs the referees of the opening match were not really the top ones at that time. Velasco in 2012 was still a relatively new name in his first big tournament and with 10 CL matches.
Kassai in 2016 was very experienced, but at least not in the top 5 anymore.

      Delete
    2. Prior to the euro 2016, Kassai was the big favourite in advance to whistle the final. Velasco had already participated in the World Cup in 2014.

      Referees opening matches EURO:

      2020:
      2016: Kassai
      2012: Velasco
      2008: Rosetti
      2004: Collina
      2000: Merk
