  1. Thanks for posting the referee category next to their name and country code.

  2. So, can we conclude that now when there are more games because of the Conference league, CL could become a bit more elite in terms of higher ranked refs included from early stages?

  3. Here are some of the future Elites

    1. Can I guess: Rade Obrenovič? :)

      Delete
    2. Well Rade was initially appointed for a domestic derby match on Sunday, but then the appointments were changed and he got another match already today. Now we know the reason :)

    3. Sale, do you know anything about Skomina?

      Delete
    4. Nothing is official yet, in some interviews Skomina was reassuring that he would return (some roumours were that he even wouldn't). As for now I can only report that he was not appointed domestically yet. I will share with you any news I might get.

  4. No Massey-Ellis in Kavanagh's team? Is this a permanent change?

    1. I noted that Kylie Cockburn, another female AR was not in David Munros team in the previous round, perhaps conflicts between women and men's football schedule

      Delete
    2. I'm from Scotland and was never aware of Kylie being in David' team. As far as i was aware she was in Lorraine Watson' team.

      Delete
    3. Also Sanja Rođak-Karšić, AR from Croatia was never in male team, although she is regularly appointed in Croatian league and highest level women football games.

      Delete
    4. @Kyle not sure she did get moved around back end of last season with other officials so it could be a possibility guess we will find out start of season

      Delete
    5. The rumours in Scotland are that Kylie Cockburn (McMullan) is off domestic and FIFA lists due to work commitments

    6. Any news on Andrew Dallas, SFA referee? Pulled up in the warm up for St Mirren vs Rangers in December and hasn't been appointed to a game since.

  5. Kavanagh, Oliver and Taylor are the only three Englishmen who almost always have the same team in Europe so it's probably it's highly unlikely to be a permanent change, especially as Dan Robathan doesn't have his FIFA badge yet.

There's a number of reasons for Kavanagh not having his whole regular team as Sian may not have had a chance to do her fitness test yet or she may have closed dates for other reasons.

  12. Gozubuyuk only with Balder and not with van Zuilen. Will van Zuilen join Higler? There will undoubtedly have been spicy talks with Gozubuyuk after his allegations towards the appointment policy of the KNVB. Hopefully his focus will now be on good performances on the pitch. Has been in category 1 for a (too)long time now. Does anyone know when his book will come out? He announced it 2 years ago now.

  14. One thing I miss many times is this. The raw footage of the communication between VAR refs and main referee and also the cameras they are looking at. Nice, transparent and open decision after the first weekend of use in Slovenia, clearly shows the VAR was right and gives credibility to the project and to the referees...

  16. Could I ask why non fifa referees are being appointed to be 4th official. Darren England appointed to be Chris Kavanaghs 4th isn't fifa. Neither are Robert Jones also of England who has been appointed to be Peter Banks 4th official in the ecl.

    1. I think it is. I got info that he failed fitness test two weeks ago (that is probably why he is apppinted only as VAR in first two matchdays). And since it is well known that he has best fitness among all Croatian referees I guess he got injured during the test.

    2. Yes, he is injured. He got injured on fitness test 10 days ago.

  18. Any info about Schaerer sending off in first half at Celtic game?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Bitton already booked put finger to face after confronting player who went down in box very soft no pen awarded. SCHAERER gave second yellow. Same player involved in that incident now off for 2nd YC for simulation. Very supportable on both occassions

      Delete
    2. Should add that AR1 missed a clear offside in build up to the first incident so all of this could have been avoided

      Delete
  19. Excellent choice of sending off Dreyer for simulation. Expecting a contact from the Celtic-player and therefore going to the ground, but no contact whatsoever. Even if he gets to his feet immediately, second yellow is unavoidable. Kudos, Schärer!

  20. OT: 2nd leg appointments are now public at uefa.com.

  21. Missed red card for Dogso holding in Wien-Sparta P? Ref gave advantage and yellow card after that. Supportable or mandatory sending off?

    2. 66': Penalty could have been whistled, but not enough in my opinion to say that it was 100% clear, no VAR stuff, one can support Gozubuyuk, for me rather penalty.
84': I think that YC is even better decision in this case, player very far away from the goal, and the path of the other defender must be considered, RC not a mistake, but in my eyes rather SPA. Again, never VAR stuff.

      Delete
    3. Well, since Gözübüyük played the advantage in 84', it couldn't have been a RC.

      Delete
    4. IMO
66' That's basically a clear reckless foul for me, as the red player jumps in the opponent with a high knee.
I agree with Chefren that it is not enough for a VAR intervention (if available), but I prefer a penalty here.

84' Good advantage played, YC is correct in my view.

  22. Exciting match in Vienna. Nice to see that there are again a large audience in the stadiums. Didn't see everything from the first half. Certainly in the second half, Gozubuyuk was not strong tonight. Not very convincing, very lenient, no proactive player management and when necessary players ignore him. Also very nervous. If there was a close-up, you could read the tension on his face. Relies heavily on his assistants and reacts too easily with a yellow card in the event of a protest. An example of this was the yellow card in min. 60. First whistle and do nothing. After protests from Rapid Wien, there is suddenly a yellow card, probably from the 4OF or AR 1. Seems conditionally strong but only runs through the middle and I think he walks into the penalty area very exaggerated for the observer. Was touched by the ball and quickly gives a referee ball without the required distance from the Sparta Prague players. Threatening with a yellow card in min. 74 for Sparta Prague player 33 (was his second) is of course not possible at this level. Curious what the observer does with minute 85? Also here comes the (justified) yellow card for holding after 1 minute and 30 seconds. There is no indication that Gozubuyuk wants to give yellow to the Rapid Wien player. This player is lying on the field with a head injury. During the care also no signal of a yellow card and then suddenly, yellow for the Rapid Wien player. The replay also shows that the Sparta Prague player kicks his opponent in the face (SFP?) after the holding. In minute 89 no yellow card for the Rapid Wien player, Gozubuyuk runs away to avoid discussion. In short, a mediocre start for Gozubuyuk in this new International season.

  23. I agree with both RC's issued by Schärer but maybe both of them could have been avoided had he booked Dreyer for the first dive (confrontation that led to Bitton's 2YC might have been avoided, and Dreyer would't have tried again to deceive the referee with a dive later)

    2. What I can say is that I fully agree with Quilava, all good decisions, Schaerer is not afraid of issuing cards and that's something I really like, but a better approach to first simulation was needed, he had to whistle immediately indirect free kick and run to book player, this would have avoided the rest. But the will of taking decisions must be praised.

      Delete
    3. Schärer is a very promising referee; he issues those cards others desperately avoid - great!
      Regarding the scenes, IMO:
      38' Correct decision.
44' Decision itself is correct, approach to the incident needed more strength.
56' Very good sanction, I like that he issued it although it is the second.

      Delete
    4. Do we know if the attacker at 44 minutes was given a YC for simulation or because of the aggressive attitude/bumping, and the referee doing the usual thing of giving a YC to both players?

Another incident if you have access to the footage was around 28/29 minutes when a Celtic player was clearly impeded by a leg stuck out, yet there was no FK or advantage. Fortunately that was just a one off poor decision in the match.

      Delete
    5. If Celtic didn't have 10 people, would the referee show a red card to Midtjylland's player in this position? I suppose not

      Delete
    6. The point is the following.
Suisse team knew #36 cheated in 43 minute. Uefa guideline is not to sanction simulation when ball goes to goalline out. So they were primed that #36 is a cheater.
For balance reason they obviously set the bar a bit lower for #36. And again in fact he dived. So... 2nd yellow. Fine for me, and refereeing that took into account the bigger picture
