The second match of semifinal: predictions game about EURO 2020 referees.
You have to guess the exact referee and VAR for each game by filling in a form. Just insert your name, or, if you want, a nickname and then for each game just select the referee. If you have already played for the previous rounds during group stage, please use the same name. We can't ensure too many efforts if you send predictions with a different name than the previously used one. If you are new and you want to have yout first try, you are welcome!
Send your predictions here:
Due to a too short time before previous games and the release of new appointments we have decided to split Semifinals in two parts, this is the second one. Results will be published all together.
The deadline for the second semifinal will be Monday 5 July 2021, 09:59 AM CET. Unless extraordinary announcement by federations the same day a few time before the official releasement by UEFA, in that case of course we couldn't accept your names. So the suggestion is not to wait the very last minutes to avoid troubles. The predictions sent after that (official time will be checked) will not be accepted in any case.
Points will be assigned according to the following pattern:
10 points for having guessed the exact referee of a match
8 points for having guessed the exact VAR of a game
5 points if a guessed referee for a game will be appointed as fourth official
4 points for having guessed a VAR appointed in a game but he is appointed as AVAR1 or AVAR3 in the same game
3 points if a guessed referee is appointed in the other semifinal
2 points if a guessed VAR is appointed as main VAR in the other semifinal
And so now?
ReplyDeleteWe have England and Spain there.
So very likely this means end of the tournament for Del Cerro and Taylor.
Kuipers and Brych should be out because too short time after today.
Hategan and Karasev underdogs, but I don't believe they can reach so high level.
Realistic names, in my opinion, for semifinals: Makkelie and Cakir.
My prediction:
ReplyDeleteItaly - Spain: Makkelie
England - Denmark: Cakir
ITA - ESP : BRYCH
ReplyDeleteENG - DEN : CAKIR
FINAL : HATEGAN
Hategan?!
DeleteHahaha
Hategan would be a fantastic choice. Because he is very handsome
DeleteHategan had two solid performances with two correct Red cards. Maybe he will get one of SF matches.
Delete@Anonym why are you laughing? Rosetti loves surprises.
DeleteBrych no. Not any time to recover.
DeleteItalie vs Espagne
DeleteArbitre ; Cakir
4ème Arbitre ; vincic
VAR ; Bastien Denkert
I wish one of SF to Siebert.
ReplyDeleteI think Cakir with no SF, I believe Rosetti's surprises are not over.
CAKIR INVITED TO LONDON BY UEFA. HE'LL CERTAINLY OFFICATE A MATCH.
DeleteCakir in SF I think.
DeleteSiebert wrongly sent Wilson off though
DeleteCakir must handle final, just hım games i enjoyed to watch referee. Other SF games i dont know, you fans can discuss the names.

DeleteHategan?
DeleteBrych gets the final? Reason?
DeleteKuipers in SF : not any time to recover. Too risked. Bad choice.
DeleteSiebert 4th official ? Let me laugh! Not yet (too young). And we're not in german competition.
DeleteIrrati and Meli VARs in Italy's game????
DeleteAnd Orsato 4th official ? Italy is in SF...
DeleteImpossible for Irrati, Meli & Orsato's team (AR)
Sorryyy
DeleteTHE REFEREES OF THE SEMI-FINAL AND FINAL MATCHES WILL BE ANNOUNCED TODAY
ReplyDeleteNot even in a theory
DeleteJust to make clear I'm not this "Unkown".
DeleteWhere does that stand, with London?
DeleteITA-SPA Makkelie
ReplyDeleteENG-DEN Hategan
Final Cakir
There's an "unknown" here who's clearly trolling around. It's the one saying Hategan should get the final because he is "handsome". LOL I will try to change the name.
ReplyDeletei think it is quite clear, that uefa/rosetti/ref-commission do not want to take any risk. what we conclude is, that the following referees are still in the lottery (alphabetical order):
ReplyDelete-brych
-cakir
-kuipers
-makkelie
will be interesting to read tomorrow who will do the first semi-final on tuesday...i think they will appoint karasev and hategon only as fourth officials. if hategan is appointed at all...siebert still in the race...sure THE rising star of this tournament...maybe appointed as 4th official as a thank you...
Predictions
ReplyDeleteITA-ESP
Referee: Danny Makkelie (NED)
AR1, AR2: Hessel Steegstra, Jan de Vries (both NED)
FO: Sergei Karasev (RUS)
VAR: Pol van Boekel (NED)
AVAR1: Kevin Blom (NED)
AVAR2: Christian Gittelmann (GER)
AVAR3: Pawel Gil (POL)
ENG-DEN
Referee: Cüneyt Çakir (TUR)
AR1, AR2: Bahattin Duran, Tarik Ongun (both TUR)
FO: Fernando Rapallini (ARG)
VAR: Bastian Dankert (GER)
AVAR1: Christian Dingert (GER)
AVAR2: Christian Gittelmann (GER)
AVAR3: Marco Fritz (GER)
Clearly Cakir is the one who deserves the most handling the final. However, Kuipers continues as a very strong option because we now know that his team correctly assessed the incident preceding DEN's first goal, as shown here: https://twitter.com/dsj_itv/status/1411389495174471685
ReplyDeleteI would love for Cakir to whistle the final, cause we all know that he is "Semi final guy" and he is having the best tournament out of all referees.
ReplyDeleteBut in reality, Kuipers is number 1 choice for the final.
I can't see Makkelie and Kuipers getting two of the three remaining games. If the SF referee (presumably Makkelie) makes a big error, they can't appoint another Dutchman to the final. Two Dutch referees in a row is impossible if you ask me.
ReplyDeleteIf UEFA have assessed the corner kick decision as correct, Kuipers is in the final with Cakir and Hategan in the semis.
If not, Makkelie is for sure in a SF, Hategan/Cakir in the other, and Cakir/Brych in the final, depending on how strong the political force against Cakir is.
If the Italy-Spain appointment tomorrow is Makkelie, Kuipers is done. If it's Cakir, anything is possible. If Hategan (or even Karasev) are appointed, it will be in ENG-DEN.
ITA-ESP
ReplyDeleteReferee: Danny Makkelie (NED)
AR1, AR2: Hessel Steegstra, Jan de Vries (both NED)
FO: Karasev (RUS)
ENG-DEN
Referee: Cüneyt Çakir (TUR)
AR1, AR2: Bahattin Duran, Tarik Ongun (both TUR)
FO: Siebert (GER)
FINAL
ENG-ITA
Referee: Bjorn Kuipers (NED)
Or
DEN-ITA
Referee: Anthony Taylor (ENG)
FO: Brych (GER)
Nobody mentioning Taylor here on such an analytical blog, typically. The form man with Cakir and Makkelie and highly favoured by committee. He’ll be there should England lose to a strong Denmark side.
My SF predictions
ReplyDeleteITA-ESP: Makkelie - Kuipers - van Boekel, Blom (all NED), Betts, Attwell (both ENG)
ENG-DEN: Cakir (TUR) - Vincic (SVN) - Dankert, Fritz, Gittelmann (all GER), Gil (POL)
The biggest winners of this tournament are Siebert and Gil Manzano. The latter had very solid performance again on Copa, and the former we have followed carefully for sure. I think the stage is their at next EURO and WC.
ReplyDeleteMakkelie and Taylor confirmed their class so far.
Meanwhile, Lahoz and Turpin are losers. I would add here Hategan, unless we see a big surprise tomorrow.
ITA-ESP: Kuipers or Hategan
ReplyDeleteENG-DEN: Makkelie
Final: Çakir
OT: How many places at the WC does each continent has? And who are the referees from this EURO that will retire until the start of the WC?
ReplyDeleteHategan deserved the final!
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry but no, he doesn't. Not a final. A semifinal would be an exceptional performance. Before the tournament I was expecting a game in the KO stage but a QF was the maximum that I was dreaming of. I was very upset when he was 4th twice but the news that he could get a semi after a difficult professional year made me very happy.
DeleteStill no appointment for Tuesday, we will have to wait for a while, like it was for Belgium - Italy!
ReplyDeleteThis appointment of referees with a delay for Italian matches casts serious doubt on Rosetti job.
ReplyDeleteAfter reflexion, I hope for SF :
ReplyDelete- Karasev : ITAESP
- Çakır : DENANG
I see Rapallini and maybe Cakir in sf.
ReplyDeleteITA - ESP Rapallini
ReplyDeleteENG - DEN Makellie
Final Cakir
They also have a meeting today in where the referees are told who can stay for the London trip and who have to leave.
ReplyDeleteCan imagine that the performance and media attention to CZE-DEN has some influence on the outcome of the discussion who to appoint for which match. Is there credits enough for the referees who made a (small) mistake or do they have to leave?
Almost 11:40. Nothing...
ReplyDeleteIt's long...
ITA-ESP: Desmond Makkelie
ReplyDeleteENG-DEN: Siebert
Finale: Kuipers
ita-spain cakir
ReplyDeleteeng-den makkelie
finale: kuipers
According to Isaac Fouto, Spanish journalist, Brych has been appointed to Italy - Spain. Still not official, though.
ReplyDelete@isaacfouto on twitter
Brych get quite time to recover ?
Deleteno way for that
DeleteThat would be so disturbingly wrong. What did he do in QF then?!
DeletePlease don't. Tell Felix Brych to whistle the final, he deserves that! Besides, he needs some rest
DeleteAgreed
DeleteITA - ESP Brych
ReplyDeleteENG - DEN Cakir
Final:Kuipers/Brych
DeleteITA-ESP:Brych/Kuipers
I am sorry but if that is true which looks a trustul source. Rossetti can’t talk about justice at appointments anymore.
ReplyDeleteWill we get the 3 remaining appointments at the same time?
ReplyDeleteIf Brych gets ITA-ESP I don't think that this appointment was planned. Maybe Italy rejected Makkelie because of the handball in TUR-ITA.
ReplyDeleteAs far as I know, nations dont choose referees, a committee does.
DeleteThere are many Spanish sites reporting the appointment as official, from Fouto source, but you know the policy of this blog, no publication until we read the names on uefa.com.
ReplyDeleteIt would be shocking for him to get that match on only 72 hours rest.
DeleteThey did the same with del Cerro Grande in group phase, so not impossible. But I think not really necessary.
DeleteDid we have such situation in the past, that the same referee gets 3 consecutive KO rounds?
ReplyDeleteIf this rumours come true and they appoint Brych for Sf, it would be the final signature of injustice in world refereeing.
ReplyDeleteIf Brych is confirmed for his fifth game (three in a row), to be honest I could easily predict Kuipers for the final in all cases. I can't believe that the Dutch stays with only three games, while the German five. The policy by committee seems quite clear, they want to reward big names, but it is also a matter of missing alternatives for some games. Having said that, the big question mark is about Del Cerro, on paper absolutely OK for UKR - ENG instead of Brych, but very likely the Spanish didn't deserve a KO stage, according to committee.
ReplyDeleteBut in that case out of last 7 games, 4 go to Kuipers and Brych, and at the same time ZERO to Makkelie, Taylor, Hategan and Karasev (and Rapallini) together. How is that normal?
DeleteWell i am sorry but there is no logic on this appointment. We can’t explain it as reward or something like that. I am totally OK with Brych handles ESP-ITA but not 3 KO games in a row. By doing this Rossetti is losing the trust from other referees and people who love football.
Delete@hugostiglitz
DeleteExactly.
By the way, I wonder why they still dont publish the appointments. Is someone complaining for some reason? Or they just have their meeting a bit later than usual.
Maybe they are waiting for Brych and Kuipers to return to Istanbul before announcing who goes to London and who not.
DeleteImagine the feelings of the other referees, whose work and dedication seem irrelevant in the eyes of the people who make the calls that matter. It gives the impression that only the elite of the elite (or, the friends?) can reach SF or final matches. A very sad evolution - if the rumours of the Brych appointment are true.
ReplyDeleteBrych is confirmed by UEFA for ITA-ESP
ReplyDeleteKarasev is the FO
ReplyDeleteit looks like rosetti gambled away. if he wanted brych for the semi-finals despite the weak round of 16 match (which would have been okay for me) he shouldn't put him in the quarter-finals.
ReplyDeleteCONFIRMED. Brych appointed for SPA-ITA
ReplyDeleteBrych with Karasev 4O.
ReplyDeleteESP-ITA: Makkelie / 4th Rapellini
ReplyDeleteENG-DEN: Cakir / 4th Karasev
FINAL: Kuipers / 4th Brych
Maybe after few years we find out about the background of this appointment. I really cannot believe that Rosetti didnt have any other option for ENG-UKR.
ReplyDeletePrediction - SF II:
ReplyDeleteREF / VAR
ENG-DEN: Danny MAKKELIE (NED) / Pol VAN BOEKEL (NED)
Rapallini
ReplyDeleteSorry guys but I stopped making predictions because Zhe decisions by Rosetti and Ceferin have clearly political reasons and nothing to do with the performances. Sending home Cakir is nothing but a scandal and shows at what point we are in UEFA refereeing. Rosetti should step back immediately. Under these circumstances predicting refs is no fun anymore. Thanks for the work you do here. I hope Fifa will do a better job in Qatar... I still hope... Cheers! Good luck to Brych, Makkelie, Kuipers. And Congrats to Brych, Kuipers, Lahoz and akir, for being great referees with outstanding styles and performances so long time!
ReplyDeleteSure, Cakir!!!
