  1. Good luck for Brych's team ! Try to forget BELPOR...

  2. No penalty in 4, brych didn't even flinch. Certainly too little, if foul at all.

    1. And goal from England. Good start for Brych.

    2. Pk missed. No doubt about the foul.

      Delete
    3. It was not foul. Anyway, Kane scores quite seconds after.

      Delete
    4. Way too little for a PK, would hardly even be a FK in the center circle

      Delete
    5. The fact that Kane scores cannot hide a technical error. Matvyenko trips Mason Mount. Replay doesn't leave room for doubt.

      Delete
    6. Again - only because there might be a slight foul, it is not necessarily a PK. Certainly not what uefa would like to see for such a minor situation

      Delete
    7. However I agree that IF it were foul, the goal afterwards makes the situation hardly any better for Brych.

  3. Can someone explain Byrch's position at the kickoff? I saw other referees in the same position in the tournament.

    1. Same question... Kuipers position is worst than Brych... I don't understand why. I don't know if it's a instruction by the commitee ? or just gain time running ?

    2. Brych doing that hole career.

    1. A bit early in the game, so maybe acceptable if brych wants to wait how the game develops?

    2. Agree, could be YC, but too soon in my opinion to show it.

      Delete
  5. 7' Possible YC for ENG no. 10, stamp wasn't that significant and nobody really cared, so in the context of the situation Brych's choice is understandable for me. Otherwise, silent beginning and a correct ONSIDE by AR Lupp prior to the 1-0 goal.

  6. Not enough for YC for me.

  7. I sometimes wonder if I watch the same games! Was barely a foul by Eng 10, Ukr player was hunched over the ball, not really in a position to play it.

    ReplyDelete
  8. I feel like people are always too quick saying YC for a "stamp". There should be some force to justify a YC for these "stamps". As what was seen here, both players were not even moving and it was a rather light contact. So no YC for me.

    ReplyDelete
  9. Never a penalty either, Mount left his foot behind, initiating contact

    1. Wrong. Matvienko commits unjustified foul. Kind of stupid foul but it is clear.

      Delete
  10. No foul on matvyenko correct, ENG player clearly touched the ball first

    1. Watch the replay. Stupid and unnecessary foul by Matvienko on Mason Mount.

    2. Read the comment - it was about matvienkos injury just minutes ago, not the PK (which was correctly not given)

    1. It certainly is - so far... though the players dont really put him to the test as of now. Good to see however, lets hope it stays that way

  13. Different type of game - not going to have lots of players chucking themselves around

  14. Someone had a very good point last night in that the committee or assignor doesn't want to take a chance with a lesser known name in a tournament even if a more well known name like Brych looked out of form to us recently. They will probably play it safe to defer blame should a referee make a major mistake. I can't say I blame them, because even though I love how FIFA gives chances to referees from all over the world in the World Cup, I think the problem is that referees might see styles of play they aren't familiar with in their region of the world. For example, the Japanese referee who called the penalty for a Brazilian dive in the Croatia game in the 2014 World Cup may not have seen so much diving in his games in Asia. Conversely, the South American referee who did very well in the Euros the other night (game escapes me) might have had a much easier time than his European counterparts, considering that South American play tends to be much more physical than European.

  15. Wrong offside now, but without effect anyhow

    ReplyDelete
  16. Wrong offside flag by AR Lupp, quite close.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Not even close. Bad mistake actually.

      Delete
    2. What exactly do you have against brych and his team? Everyone saw that it was close, so stop BS-ing all the time

      Delete
    3. TV commentator said clearly not offside. Looked to be about a foot onside.

      Delete
    4. Sorry? I'm being factual. I'm not to blame for the fact that you are a fanbay. Calm down and watch the game. Stop trying to control what other people think of the game.

      Delete
    5. Law % Commenter of course it was not close. It is a bad mistake.

      Delete
    6. Of course it was a terrible mistake. I think I saw brych waving to the AR to signal the offside because he hates England. Holy crap guys, write about what you see and don't exaggerate small mistakes all the time

      Delete
    7. ThunderRef again, calm down. It was a clear mistake. Indeed. Plus, Brych just turned a corner kick into a goal kick, which was yet another mistake. This time AR 2 got it right and Brych gave the wrong overrule.

  17. Wrong offside call by AR2

  18. Uneventful first half for Brych. So far, nothing to complain but also almost nothing to assess for Brych.
    -> Expected level

    ReplyDelete
  19. Strange that Sterling fell out of favor with Pep at Man City considering his performances in the Euros.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Good fisrt half. Maybe he should have shown a YC to Ukraine (too many fouls but just my opinion. Anyway the match is under Byrch´s control.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Seems like Brych analyzed his last game very well. Those technical mistakes he made there didn't happen today.

Till now a good performance without any mistakes in an easy match.

    ReplyDelete

    1. Yes, that was my impression as well. I thought that he opted for the 'Brych-approach' with a clear body language and admitted that his 'experiment' in the R16 match with a more distant and lenient approach failed.

      Delete
    2. Agreed, he whistled the small fouls everyone expects to be whistled. In his last match, he wanted to let the match flow too much. Today is more like a Brych game. He can be in the background but whistles if needed.

      Delete
    3. That's what I always say especially to young refs... Be yourself. Your performance will be better if you feel comfortable with your style of management and communication. That is right for youngones - and for a Topref it is, too.

      Delete
  22. Uneventful match, no major mistakes, but also no opportunities to really "shine" as the players don't test brych so far.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Brych back to his usual self and game suits his style - in background, low key, good level of acceptance (reputation helps!).

Only issues: poor offside by AR2 and I thought YC should have gone to UKR7 just before half time for deliberate/cynical trip - player stayed on feet, tried to carry on, Brych rightly returned when no advantage came. Want players not to exaggerate but by trying to carry on, he possibly saved the offending player a YC. (Within tournament can let go, but don’t like that type of foul)

    1. Also the GK/corner mix up was surely avoidable. Insisted AR2 gave it, then when he signalled corner, Bruch overruled?

      Delete
    2. I saw that the AR signalled goallick which was correct

      Delete
  24. Dr Brych is using EXACTLY the same style today as he used in Bel vs Por.
The only difference today are the players.

Today, there are no players rolling around, trying to con the referee and screaming for a foul for every challenge.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. The Belgium - Portugal match was definitely much, much more difficult than this one, and Brych should not be considered totally at fault for what happened there.

That said, being able to adapt your style to the match is an important skill for a referee.

    1. I think mcguire pushed the defeder wlth his roght hand. But VAR didn't intervene.

    2. In the first slow motion, I think that the #UKR-player hit Kane on his foot. It looked a bit strange in the other slow motions.

      Delete
    3. He pushed the defender just a bit, but never enough for disallowing the goal!

  26. Very strict with position of throws. Refs have been told to be firmer on this, I think, as it has been noticeable in last few games

  27. İ think Rosetti choised wrong game for Kuipers,if he want hım for the Final really,,match getting more easy after 3-0

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I disagree, good appointment for Kuipers IMO. Giving him an average difficulty game is more like a "warm up' before doing the final.

      Delete
    2. Sorry but in this tournament and in CL before I did not see Kuipers on his possible level even one time. Many minor mistakes, he lost his clear - sometimes too lenient - line, and had much more discussions, no full acceptance than normally. He just was lucky not to get a really difficult game in this EURO.

      Delete
  28. Only easy as he is respected by most players, who just want to play football. They all know where they stand

    ReplyDelete
  29. In my opinion Brych changed his approach and studied this game.
Not difficult job so far, rather an easy one compared to others, but I saw clearly a different referee, I think it is not due to players different behavior, because he could have done by far better in BEL - POR. Now he looks absolutely focused on everything and that's good. I think that he was the first person to notice that his performance had been not so good as expected.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Brych is well known for being extremely critical with himself. I saw him back being himself finally and I am happy with that.

      Delete
    2. Guys, with all due respect but how did you see that Brych 'changed his approach and studied this game' and is 'back being himself'? This match has nothing to do with BELPOR. The score here is 4-0 and there is a total of 11 fouls. Which referee cannot handle this game? The problem with all the Dutch and most of the German referees is that they referee games in very fair domestic championships where the players are focused only in playing football and respect the decisions of the referees. So when they meet more latino style in the international competition very often they are cannot change their approach and they are totally lost. Exactly that they cannot addapt to a different type of game IMO is a very big criterium of a poor referee. I don't want to insult anybody - it is just my honest opinion.

  30. I think he made a good preparation for this game. His physical performance is also good even after the game is decided.

  32. @Smala017

I totally agree with you that players themselves also have a huge role to play in determining the nature of a match.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Hopefully there won't be any additional time, I think both teams want the match to end after 90 minutes.

  34. @Chefren

Can you kindly specify the areas of difference in Dr Brych's approach in this game and that of Bel vs Por.

For me, his approach and style in both games are very similar. His calm demeanor has been the same, and he has generally been very frugal with his YCs. ZERO YC so far in this game.

    1. Sometimes it is difficult to explan a concept, I feel that he shows more alertness towards the incidents of the game. I don't see missed fouls like it happened in Belgium - Portugal. In addition, in this game, despite of an easy context, I perceive he would be ready to handle difficult moments in case of need, in BEL - POR, it was quite different. This can be still my impression and nothing more, but I'm sure he should have done by far better in his early appearance.

      Delete
    2. Well I understand and appreciate your point.
But do you think the players also played a role in how both games went?

  35. My semifinal predictions are:

    ITALY - SPAIN
    Referee: Ovidiu Alin Hategan
    Assistant Referee 1: Radu Ghinguleac
Assistant Referee 2: Sebastian Eugen Gheorghe
    Fourth Official: Sergei Karasev
    VAR: Pawel Gil
    AVAR1: Christian Dingert
    AVAR2: Christian Gittelmann
    AVAR3: Paul Van Boekel

    DENMARK - ENGLAND
    Referee: Cuneyt Cakir
    Assistant Referee 1: Bahattin Duran
    Assistant Referee 2: Tarik Ongun
    Fourth Official: Slavko Vincic
    VAR: Bastian Dankert
    AVAR1: Kevin Blom
    AVAR2: Christian Gittelmann
    AVAR3: Marco Fritz

    2. Yes, because Meli (ITALY), Prieto (SPAIN) and Betts (ENGLAND) should be considered OUT like other VARs from these countries because teams are involved in semifinals.

      Delete
  37. So names for London are: Brych, Kuipers, Cakir, Vincic, Rapallini, Hategan, Makellie. Semifinals for Cakir and Rapallini. Final Makkelie or Brych.

  39. Good night for Brych, I think that is a game you want to have in QF. No YC, no crucial decisions, he was able to let the game flow. Everyone is happy, also nice to see the friendly chat between Ukraine's coach and Brych. Topic here is the match, not further appointments, so I won't comment on that.

  41. Match has ended, so here we go again.

I think Brych is in again for candidates of the final, as he showed a clear progress and a performance without real mistakes

    1. After last game he must go home and now candidate for Final :)) i dont say for u,,just for fans

      Delete
    2. Cu the comedy. He should already be home based on performance. ENG-UKr was the easiest game of the tournament. The real test was POR-BEL and Brych failed badly. Hazard and De Bruyne would certainly pay testament to that. They are still suffering the impact of Brych's disastrous night in Seville.

      Delete
  42. If Italy progress Brych will not get final.
As an Englishman I would be happy with any of Kuipers, Cakir, Makkelie or Brych for any games we have left - tried and tested, no mavericks.

England vs Denmark will have pressure due to occassion but not have the theatrics you may see in the other game.

Spain vs Italy will be tough to referee

    2. Why Brych shouldn't get the final if Italy is in the final ?

      Delete
    3. Englishman here too. If Cakir doesn’t get the final (which he deserves) then I would have him for England-Denmark and Makkelie for Italy-Spain.

Assuming Brych is going home, Kuipers will get the final.

      Delete
    4. Question is why Brych should get the final. Why would he be the only one with five matches when he blundered so much in POR-BEL? Tonight's match would be a walk in the park for everyone... easiest game of the tournament and still he missed a penalty and commited other mistakes. It would be outrageous to see him in the final. No one would understand based on performance.

      Delete
    5. Missed a penalty for who?

      Delete
  43. I think Cakir should do Ita vs Spa, although people keep digging up games from 5 years ago - I think players have changed and enough water has gone under the bridge - he is a referee in form and I think its the hardest game left in the tournament.

    ReplyDelete
  44. There was never a penalty in tonight's game.

    1. Penalty is crystal clear. Lucky Brych it was a walk in the park for England in the easiest game of EURO.

      Delete
    2. Pretty obvious now that you know nothing about ref'ing since you really seem to believe that this was a crystal clear penalty.

Also Assignments are not handed out just based on the games at the tournament but based on the whole season (and career). Like it or not that's how it always was.

      Delete
    3. pele23, you clearly have no clue whatsoever. Penalty kikck is beyond obvious as Mason Mount is tripped by the Ukranian defender who simply misses the timing and doesn't touch the ball at all.

Concerning assignments, they are political choices as most people here have already noticied. Actually, it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure that out :)
