  1. In my opinion expected level performance by Kuipers in a rather normal difficulty game. The focus is only about that corner kick leading to a goal. Unluckily, the final score says that this was decisive. Personally, I don't think that a corner kick mistake is something relevant in assessing a referee performance, and before that, it is AR responsibility. Most of the times it happens without crucial consequences, so it is impossible to think it is a serious mistake.
But... as matter of fact, Czech Republic won this game thank to that.
My opinion is that this mistake shouldn't be considered by committee, we will see what committee will decide. I'm curious.
As for the rest, surely not the best game to watch, mostly without any particular or interesting situation.
Good presence by Kuipers in the end, I can support no foul at the edge of penalty area, and no penalty a few later.

    1. To be honest, I don’t think Kuipers has been good enough to earn the final anyways, regardless of how UEFAinterprets this match.

    2. So @Chefren -- have you seen this clip from behind the goal on the ball that went out for a corner?

      Still a serious mistake?

    3. "Czech Republic won this game thanks to that"
I'm sure you mean Denmark Chefren.

  2. Good performance for Kuipers' team. Except wrong FK by Zeinstra at 5'. This decision was important for the score.
But, as Chefren, the committee can let down this error by the AR2.
Curious to see the ref appointed for SF (obviously final) but for the moment, step by step, follow the games.

This match was not interesting to see, not very complicated for Kuipers. Good strategy by the committee. 3 matches quite/very easy until now...

  3. With a referee perspective that wrong CK is not important for me at all even if it leads to a goal. But if you look from czech side they find a right to say that they lost the game because of a wrong referee decision. I am sorry but noone protects the referee in such cases. We will see how committee will decide. We will learn it tomorrow and they don't have much time to think about it. But in the past like i said before this kind of mistakes were reason for sending home.

  4. Expected level performance by Kuipers IMO. Basically, the difficulty was exactly what committee wanted and could have paved the way for a final assignment with three fairly easy matches. The big problem is the wrong corner kick. I basically agree with Chefren that those minor mistakes shouldn't influence the evaluation of a performance too much, but Kuipers was VERY unlucky here: The wrong corner led to a goal (first misfortune) and also directly influenced the outcome of the match (one goal difference; second unluck).

I'm curious, how the committee will handle this situation. It seems clear that they (at least partly) include the public discussions and media's criticism, so I'm a bit unsure.

    1. I don't think Rapallini will continue the tournament.

    2. Wish he could continue,,because he was really good on this tournament.

  6. if you evaluate the situation neutrally (without fanboys or haters) there can only be one name for the final: Cüneyt Cakir. I don't know why Ceferin should have something against him, if that's the case anyway, I hope Rosetti prevails.

    1. Actually i think ceferin will allow cakir for Final,he must be calm after hım performance, also base camp was on the İstanbul, they r good signs for turkish referee,,anyway he deserve the final.

  7. In general, it was a solid performance by Kuipers, not impressive but solid with minor mistakes. It would not have been a problem.
BUT, and I like Kuipers, the mistake prior the 0–1 is decisive. First German newspaper headline is "Denmark winning thanks to a wrong corner decision". I have not thought of that, but some comments say Czech press is accusing Kuipers for "taking revenge" because of Netherland's loss against Czech Republic. Objectively speaking, it could not have been worse for Kuipers and I am really sorry for him: A wrong or missed penalty decision, a wrong or missed sent-off could have been corrected by VAR. But he, or rather AR2, made a mistake that cannot be corrected and was crucial for the match result. It was a black-or-white decision and everyone saw the replays.
I agree that such decisions happen very often, however, you have to be lucky. We can like it or not but if a team scores after a wrong corner decision, the referee will be in focus, especially if it is crucial. Honestly speaking, I cannot imagine to see Kuipers in the final for that reason. I understand people saying it was not a big mistake but I think they underrate the influence, the importance of this decision. If even German media is writing everywhere about it, I don't want to think of Czech's press.
Kuipers would have deserved a last big match, for his career rather than for his recent performances (I think he is not in his best times), but I simply cannot imagine.

    1. Right now, in Germans biggest news show which is watched by 10 million people they named this corner kick a wrong decision of Kuiper's team which influenced the match in a crucial way. Looking at the media this corner kick looks like the biggest mistake of the whole tournament although there has been others.

    3. In my opinion, the weak Czech defense played a much bigger role in the goal than the wrong corner kick decision, but criticizing that seems to be too much to ask from the Czech press...

  8. I’ve just watched back the corner decision, I think the reason Kuipers gave a corner is because he heard a double ricochet, I’m not sure from what. A referee has to trust his instincts and I would’ve given a corner there as well.

    1. Never risk there IMO. Wrong goal kick decision is always better than wrong corner kick which leads to a goal.

  9. IMO there are at least 6-7 referees wlth better performances than kuipers. But they decided to give the final to hım before the tournament started, if Holland qualified for the semi finals then it would be Brych or Taylor. With not convincing performances and not good shape
its going to be very difficult for Kuipers a final like england- italy at wembley with full stadium. It could be very difficult for everybody. I hope committee eveluate their pre-decision about final and give it to a fitter referee. If it has to be a Dutch referee than better makkeile than kuipers.

  10. We always say performance principles is the most important especially in such tournaments like WC or EURO. And when we look to the performances of all UEFA referees this tournament there is only one name who deserve this final for performance principles since 11th June: Cüneyt Cakir.

He had a good POR-HUN in the hottest atmosphere in the whole tournament, a decisive but calm AUT-UKR and a 10/10 performance in 2020/2021 in SPA-CRO.
He had no media factors, no big mistakes, no VAR intervention and a passion and connection to the play and players like the beginning of his career.

    1. I already know because of your profile picture that you are not neutral there :) but as I fully agree with you. it should be cakir.

  11. Some referees were sent home with one mistake. Because of this, Kuipers' final chances have reduced. Will Kuipers continue to referee next year?

  12. Italy-Spain Rapallini
    Denmark-England/Ukraine Makkelie

    Final Mr Cakir (4th Kuipers)

  13. The final was Kuiper's to lose. I don't think he lost it in that game, but I think the door will be open a little for brych now to "win" the final, if (!) it becomes a difficult match and he makes no mistakes.

If so, we have seen the last match of a refereeing legend today and of one of the best referees of the last decade, and I think this deserves some respect.

    1. ThunderRef: Right, of course Kuipers deserves our respect for his great career, like I said, he was excellent referee especially between years 2011 to cca 2017, one of the bests, probably absolutelly the best.
What about WC next year? Kuipers is probably going to finish his career after this EURO, and I expect Brych will continue at least to WC… Is It possible that also on WC will be more referees from one country just like on this tournament?

  14. So... with this angle from behind the goal on the corner kick before the goal... still a mistake?

    1. I don’t see a difference in the trajectory of the ball. Possibly a contact, but not sure about this. This isn’t a good camera position. Best decision is still goal kick. Having right and getting right issue.

    2. Very good decision then by Team Kuipers. Clear the ball comes off the CZE defender.

    3. Ball trajectory didn't change, but the trajectory of the fingers certainly did...

    4. If UEFA explains this correctly then Kuipers team will have no problem.

    5. Correct decision by Kuipers and his team, but anyone who considered this decision to be very important in the first place needs to get some perspective…. it’s a *corner kick*, people should never have picked up their pitchforks.

    6. He touch the ball yes,,if AR saw it what about the free kick?

    7. I don't think it's a punishable handball.

    8. Is it neutral position? Or if u see it on the penalty area what u ll do ? Just wonder ur opinion.

    11. Why are we talking about a possible HB offence here?

Arm/hand is in a justifiable position... or are we trying to distract from a good call by the AR?
