  1. I think this is the key game for the final referee. After this game we will have strong opinion for the final. My candidates are Kuipers and Cakir.

  2. Kuipers seems more concentrated than SLOESP for example. Better...!

  3. Wrong corner kick and goal .... end of tournament for Kuipers.

  4. Clearly wrong corner with a following goal. Crucial mistake.

  5. Oei. This was no corner kick…
Now goal for Danmark after the wrong CK

    ReplyDelete
  6. Oh no, what a sad start for Kuipers. Clearly wrong corner kick leading to 0–1. Crucial mistake. This could be the end.

    1. No, this would be a clear violation of the protocol. VAR may not intervene.

    2. If UEFA fully blames AR2 for this call, they might just replace him with one of Makkelies Assistants for the final.

  7. Unlucky czechia. Corner was wrong and it leads to a goal.

  8. maximum unfortunate start. that shouldn't have happened

    ReplyDelete
  9. Terrible corner . Maybe var instructions after this will change

    ReplyDelete
  10. How unlucky for Kuipers! Wrong corner leads to the goal (0-1).
I think, the consequences of that decision will be clear after the match (Will the corner have a crucial impact on the final otucome?)

    ReplyDelete
  11. It was definitely goal kick. Unlucky moment for Kuipers team. Now the final is in danger.

  12. This is pushing the door for brych wide open...

    1. brych?? 5 games (3 KO) after BEL POR? Rosetti has to resign that same day because the other refs would just not recognize his authority.

  13. I am shocked with comments on this blog, people celebrating referee's mistake. I have no words for such comments. Sorry but from now on I will no longer comment anything here.

    2. Referee 12: Well, like a Czech fan I am very frustrated that Kuipers get this match. Based on his previous matches, he should go home after the group stage. I said that I expect Kuipers is goibg to fail this QF. I was right and believe mě, I am not happy, really not...

      Delete
    3. +1

Incredible reactions. And Kuipers had nothing to with this. And a wrong corner should never be VAR topic. It's simply unlucky in this case, nothing more.

      Delete
    4. I agree with you, but...Giovanni,your attitude towards Orsato was not much better....

      Delete
    5. Kosino 94 is just a Brychette celebrating a possible mistake from Kuipers. I guess this is not what this blog is for. Btwz it is much more outrageous appointing Brych for UKR-ENG than assigning the final to Kuipers.

    6. One more comment and this really is the last one.
I am following blog from the beggining, from the first blog that Niclas started. Commenators always used to be referees or people who at least know something about refereeing. It is clear that majority of commentators this days know nothing about refereeing. If they do, they would no that wrong corner kick, even if goal is scored, is never crucial mistake.

      Delete
    7. Because of the fanboys ok,,we hate every match day they r talking just Kuipers, Kuipers not deserve the Final after this mistake,

      Delete
    8. Sorrry, i think this blog is about “no matter how bad is Kuipers performing, he should get the final anyway.” Two crucial místakes in three matches (one corrected by VAR), no way Kuipers in the final if performances matters.

      Delete
    9. @Referee 12 this is not a crucial mistake for observing you are right. But if this game ends 1-0 Denmark winning. Everybody will talk about referee. UEFA doesn't want people talk about referee after the game. And this is a tournament not a long season.

      Delete
    10. Anonymous, I am not celebrating, I am frustrated. You have some obsession with Brych? My comment was not about Brych. I understand if Brych will be not in the final after Bel-Por, but I can’t accept if Kuipers will get the final match after all this tournament, in which were at least 5 referees performing better than Bjorn…

      Delete
    11. And for you kosino this blog seems to be about negatively mentioning Kuipers each and every time you make a comment. Pathetic behavior and just as reprehensible as the fan talk of some.

      Delete
    12. And 0-2 for the Danish! Have you already thought about how to blame Kuipers for this goal Kosino?

      Delete
    13. Kosino 94 is the most ridiculous Kuipers hater around here. Your idol Brych will not get the final so your hatred here is to no avail.

      Delete
    14. You are funny. Just calm down. Kuipers is one of my favourite referees just like Brych. He was probably the best in the world, maybe since 2011 to 2017: but definitelly not in 2021. No hateress on my side. I am sorry about you if you think he is best on this tournament.

      Delete
    15. @Referee 12 +1
      The old good times :(

  14. Finaly ammo for al the Kuipers haters! Great moment for them

    ReplyDelete
  15. Wrong corner leading to goal is just -0.1 on a match rating. If he has a good game the rest of the match then he can salvage this match

    ReplyDelete
  16. I don't want to be accused of being a kuipers fan boy, because I am definitely not! But surely it was AR2's call and the responsibility should be with him?

    ReplyDelete
  17. I remember that Kuipers immediately watches for messages about crucial decisions in half time. If I am not wrong, he receives messages by his friends/colleagues as he asks them to inform him about his important decision. So, Kuipers will know his and AR2's mistake before second half.
It is very unfortunate, AR2 is the person to blame but in such a clear decision, Kuipers is responsible as well.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Not just giving a wrong corner, even if Kuipers scores for Denmark, he is guaranteed to be the referee of the final.

    ReplyDelete
  19. I like kuipers but I think all the talk about "the final is his to lose" on this website is vastly neglecting a bunch of other excellent referees who could be rewarded for great careers as well (brych, cakir) or for simply an excellent tournament (karasev, taylor, siebert). I know there are reasons why most of them probably can't get the final but still there is a bias towards kuipers in some of the chats here that to my opinion is also not worthy of this great blog.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Actually usually I am one the biggest critics of Kuipers but about the corner - it is a kind of mistake which I can accept. BUT... How Kuipers is moving... Oh my... Sorry but this is unacceptable. He is like a turtle.

  21. It's so funny to see Kuipers haters going this hysterical. If UEFA appointed Brych again, why not doing the same with Kuipers? Btw, I'm not sure it was an incorrect decision. No one protesting from CZE.

  28. All of you who say he lost the final are not considering the most important point - as well as those guys saying "it's just -0.1" - in the end, uefa/rosetti will not appoint a referee to the final who has caused a great controversy or who was heavily criticized by a team, does creating negative press. Compare brych's poor performance about which nobody cared with lahoz, who caused negative press for PORFRA. In the end, it all comes down to whether CZE go out of the tournament today and whether they will raise hell about the ref or not. Sad, but true.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Nobody cared about Brych's poor performance? You have to learn reading and watching the press. He was harshly criticized.

      Delete
    2. Literally below the line for any major public. Even siebert caused more of a wuzz by being criticized by Bale.

      Delete
    3. True - do a google news search for brych, siebert, lahoz - brych has caused the least public mess

      Delete
    4. It was not below the line by any means. That's just your wishful thinking :)

      Delete
    5. Brych had the worst performance so far. No criterior whatsoever. He was lost. De Bruyne and especially Hazard got injured because of him and that caused damage to Belgium against Italy. No one wants a final that goes off the rails.

Actually, Brych being in the QFs is a favor by Rosetti. By the way, Brych was in fact criticized by both the Belgian and the Portuguese press.

      Delete
    6. Brych had the worst display of the tournament. What's this discussion for?

Because it is the first obligation of the referee - to secure the safety of the players. The difference is there for you to see it - UEFA made a good image for themselves highlighting the human behaviour of Taylor at Ericsson's incident and now Kuipers made a starking contrast by just turning his back, showing no respect and care at all. And above all, it is just my opinion - Isaw it, it made a big impression to me and I share it... in a BLOG.

  34. Cakir must be favourite for final now

    ReplyDelete
  35. In body language I can see that Kuipers isn’t happy at all. Probably VAR told him it wasn’t a CK. He miss some small fouls probably because he is too much thinking. I feel sorry for him. Let’s hope it doesn’t stay 0-1.

    1. I don't think he asked VAR. But he will definitely learn at half time.

  36. Some haters here are just a joke. So, Kuipers, who helped UEFA and Rosetti, in particular, so much throughout the years. lost the final because of a corner? Seriously? There's actually a replay showing the CZE defender slightly touching the ball. Grow up and stop hating. If the final goes to Kuipers, it is well deserved.

      Delete
    6. Well said, I won't be surprised at all if the final goes to anyone besides Brych. One corner mistake will not eliminate the chance to attend final. My names for the final remain the same until this moment: Kuipers or Cakir

      Delete
    7. Yeah, Kuipers or Cakir. But based in performance, for the sake of fairness, definitely Cakir.

      Delete
    8. Do you even believe yourself? I am sure you are just joking around, right? Absolutely no touch at all. 100% goal kick.

    9. My specific prediction will be:

      SF: Cakir, Makkelie or Taylor
      F: Cakir or Kuipers

      Delete
  37. So now, it is clear how the SFs and the Final go. Makkelie and Hategan for the SFs and Cakir for the Final.
I really like Kuipers, but he will be very lucky if he gets F.O. for the final.

  41. IMO if the game ends with big difference 3-0, 4-0 nobody will talk about referee. But if the game ends with 1-2 goals difference there will be protests which UEFA doesn't want most probably. This was an unlucky situation for referees but this is a tournament there are many examples that we saw referees were sent home because of minor mistakes which leads to goal or qualification.

    ReplyDelete
  42. BBC - massive mistake by the referee.

  43. I wonder why this outrage about the hateful comments only comes with this game and not with the brych's game. it was just as bad then.

    ReplyDelete

    1. Just as bad? There’s only one minor mistake here, which (understandably) becomes an issue because a goal is scored. But that’s all so far…

    2. Actually, because of Brych, Hazard and De Bruyne got injured. Hazard missed QF game against Italy. De Bruyne played with TORN LIGAMENTS yesterday as he himself revealed: https://www.goal.com/en/news/de-bruyne-reveals-he-played-with-torn-ligaments-in-italy-loss-as-/tryw4nyeugk51unaeynjjpa36

If Mateu and Turpin were sent home, so should be Brych. There has to be some decency and equality.

It is impossible to prevent people from writing on the blog.
The only solution is closing the blog, maybe forever?
However we expereince such troubles only during major tournaments, as somebody correctly wrote, so for those who are disappointed, please understand the situation, in a few days it will end.
I can't do more if not hoping that some people will stop the war.
We have also some positive comments, luckily.

    1. Chefren, with all respect for your work with Michael, but I don't think that you are right asking only for positive comments. Without insulting but it is exactly this kind of cheerleading for referees which creates the opposite reactions. Even more I am absolutely sure that many of these fanboy reactions are actually written by the referees themselves or by their friends and relatives. Smaybe they are your bigger problem.

      Delete
    2. 'Positive' doesn't mean that mistakes should be concealed. It means that the comments are a surplus value for the constructive discussions in the blog instead of hateful and aggressive comments.

      Delete
    3. Chefren, please, stop anonymous comments. This blog is turning into a kindergarten

      Delete
    4. I agree with this comment. Feeling happy by a referee mistake is unacceptable for me but also cheerleading the referee no matter what (i am talking about performance) is not OK.

      Delete
    5. That was a response to another comment, don't know why it was placed here.

      Delete
    6. What Chefren means with “positive comments” is of course comments which contribute to the discussion in a qualitative manner.
And your allegation 3303, without any proof, of referees / relatives of referees writing on the blog themselves doesn’t belong in that category IMHO.

      Delete
    7. @Chefren

Disallowing anonymous comments until the end of the tournament would help at least to an extent.

  47. I don't really know, what to think about the first half. The corner kick was a unlucky mistake, which can occur sometimes. It's such a bad luck that it happened in this match, which is probably decisive about his participation in the final. Referees need the certain portion of luick sometimes and Kuipers didn't have it here.

Otherwise, this performance was a reflection of Kuipers' whole season in my view. Some inaccuracies were part of the performance thus far, nothing serious, but somehow I had the feeling that he isn't fully convinced anymore.
I'm sure that Rosetti planned (and maybe still plans) with Kuipers in the final, but with those displays throughout the EURO I'm not too sure anymore. We can only wait and see...

    ReplyDelete
  48. If Kuipers will be out after this game (which I highly doubt considering the treatment of dr. Brych) then I see nobody else then Makkelie getting the final. Cakir would deserve it but i think Ceferin wont allow it. Brych should be out after tonight... and tbf i really dont see other options then.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I am thinking about the same thing, although I do not think Kuipers will be out unless some crucial mistake in the second half. Makkelie deserves to get the final IMO, but he is "very young" in terms of the age who get the final, I am sure the committee will take this into consideration

      Delete
  49. Why is everybody pushing Kuipers for the final?! His season wasn’t top and this tournament he missed an obvious penalty, a goal from a wrong corner kick and his foul detection isn’t that good any more. His fitness is less then for example Brych, Taylor and Makkelie.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Which makes sense - he is simply much older.

    2. If performance principle was so important than we wouldnt have seen dr brych after the worst performance of the whole tournament in bel por...... so just dont say hes out.

      Delete
    3. Guys, isn't it possible to focus on the match for some minutes. I don't know, how often I read "Brych should be home!!!" in the last days. One can definetly disagree with that choice but we understood your annoyance now!

      Delete
    4. True in general, but on the other hand, it still makes a difference whether you will get a qf as a second chance to show a poor performance or a mistake was an outlier, or the final?

      Delete
  50. Has to be incredibly difficult for the assistant referee to be fully concentrated for another 45 minutes while knowing that you made a crucial mistake.

    ReplyDelete
  51. I think kuipers does not have his best night, but I don't see why this should prevent him from getting the final as of yet. Cakir might deserve it more, but I don't know how much truth is in all these discussions about Ceferin not liking him (and honestly, I don't know if Rosetti would care?)

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. If Ceferin interferes with the referee appointments, he and Rosetti have to resign. Period. It is not acceptable at all that the best referee of the tournament, Cakir, doesn't get the final because the UEFA president doesn't like him. That itself would be the scandal of the tournament.

      Delete
    2. You can check Cakir's appointments after Slovenia game if you still think he doesn't interfere with appointments, i would respect your opinion.

      Delete
    3. Well I don't think we will ever know if Ceferin interfered... also, if rosetti certainly knows what ceferin would like or not like to see no matter whether he actively interferes or not

      Delete
    4. hugostiglitz, then that has to come to light and deserves an investigation. It is unacceptabel if the UEFA presidente deliberately sabotages the career of a referee. This would be a scandal.

  54. Forget the corner. Without that situation there would have been nothing to talk about. The game is extremely boring and the stadium choice is the reason. Why place such a game in a place that didn't even participate in the tournament and where only about 25% fans can attend and sit 50 meter away?

    ReplyDelete

    1. Azerbaijan allows %50. I think it's just far just because people don't go there.

      Delete
    2. Doesn't look like 50% and even that is a little. But the stadium choice is terrible. Stadiums with track & field are not suitable for football. The fans are too far away and the atmosphere is lost.

      Delete
    3. They allow %50 which is like 35000 but i don't think all tickets are sold. Well it's an olympic stadium which has athletics track so i agree with you about atmosphere.

  55. Missed corner kick in 61, not the best night for the AR (though more difficult to see than before the goal)

    ReplyDelete
  56. Another corner mistake! Now Roekel who can be blamed.

    ReplyDelete
  57. If it's true what many here discussed the past days, the match overall has exactly the temperament that uefa/rosetti might have wished in order to provide kuipers with another (compared to other qfs) low-profile match to keep him "unharmed" for the final. Question will be how mich talk there will be about the missed goal kick before the goal? Don't see why kuipers shouldn't get the final as of yet.

    ReplyDelete
  58. The reaction here to the corner kick mistake before 1-0 is a little over-the-top I think. It’s not a crucial mistake: his *heinous* crime is mistakenly assessing a corner kick instead of a goal kick. That happens in almost every game. The fact that it led to a goal does not make it a worse mistake, because that’s not part of his decision at all.

Furthermore to suggest that it is a less serious mistake if CZE advance is to suggest that Kuipers would benefit from one specific team winning this match… which would make him completely biased. I sincerely hope UEFA does not take “which team advanced?” into account when assessing referee performances…

  59. What i don't like kuipers and also orsato in this tournament is their body language. They look uninterested and not concentrated enough. On the other hand referees like vincic, rapallini, cakir, siebert, karasev, hategan looked very concentraded and fully on the game.
Kuipers try to manage the game from certain distance and it doesn't look good. Other referees seemed more focused to the matches. That's why despite some mistakes, i think this is the best tournament in history for the referees.

  60. back in 2016 it was so much easier. everyone loved clattenburg and the final appointment came about by itself. this time there will almost certainly be discussions no matter who gets the final.

  61. I don't understand these so many negative comments for Kuipers. He has not made particular mistakes in a very quiet match so far.

I still see him as the main candidate for the final, Rosetti's choices suggest this.

  62. The score 1-2 will not be in favour of Kuipers.. I really hope one more goal will be scored and it would be helpful if it’s Czech.

  63. Soucek still bleeding, but kuipers sleeping.

  64. Tough game for Kuipers' AR, especially Zeinstra. Good perf for Van Roeckel.
If 1-2 stay final score, it will be complicated for team Kuipers because wrong FK at 5'... What will be the decision by the committee ?

  65. Now foul missed edge PA for Czech.

    1. Obviously Kuipers doesn’t want Czech to win because they knocked out his country Netherlands

  66. Now missed foul and protests from CZE players.

  67. Let's try to focus on the game now: finally an interesting situation ina very boring context. CZE wanted a foul at the edge of penalty area, Kuipers played on, player protested and he was booked. I think supportable decision by the Dutch, nothing very clear. At maximum YC for SPA, in case, to be issued.

    1. I agreed with you till i saw the second replay imho a foul but difficult to see...

  68. IMO it was foul in dangerous area for czechia. Kuipers is too far away again.

  69. If no foul on Vydra, then no foul by Souček…

  70. Missed foul and YC. After protests CZE player got YC which is correct.

  71. Wouldn't dissent be indirect, kuipers never raised arm to signal as such?

    1. A lot of referees don’t these days, it’s not like they’re gonna shoot from there anyway

    2. Based on LoTG, referees are no longer forced to raise their arm to signal the nature of the IFK if it's clear there will be no shoot on goal (since 2019-2020 LoTG IIRC) .
It's done with almost every offside IFKs.

  72. In a replay shown at 86:18 you can see Kuipers face will running, a bit suffering if you ask me. Not at the top of form, but I think better physical condition than Orsato.

    1. He is 48 and this season was a bit different. The season got stuck in less months than usual plus this tournament.

    2. Also difficult weather conditions according to our commentator

    3. When only talking about physical condition, I am impressed by Vincic and Dias the most in this EURO

  73. I'm not sure if it was a clear foul. Correct YC for dissidence.
What a foul on 86': CORRECT YC !

  74. 89' correct play on, not a penalty.

  75. Possible penalty for Danemark? Braithwate pushed it was similar like belgian's penalty.

    1. I agree with Chefren, no penalty. Yesterday Di Lorenzo pushed Doku, today i didn't see a contact.

  76. UEFA dont want small PK. Kuipers' decision is a decision which should be appreciated by the committee...

  77. Again this depends on the rules. In my federation it says "The president appoints.."

  78. Czechs have a right to be dissatisfied. Only who in UEFA is interested in what the Czechs think, they are not Italians.

  79. except for the corner a sovereign performance by Kuipers. unfortunately, denmark won by one goal difference, you can hardly have more bad luck ...

    ReplyDelete
  80. In my opinion expected level performance by Kuipers in a rather normal difficulty game. The focus is only about that corner kick leading to a goal. Unluckily, the final score says that this was decisive. Personally, I don't think that a corner kick mistake is something relevant in assessing a referee performance, and before that, it is AR responsibility. Most of the times it happens without crucial consequences, so it is impossible to think it is a serious mistake.
But... as matter of fact, Czech Republic won this game thank to that.
My opinion is that this mistake shouldn't be considered by committee, we will see what committee will decide. I'm curious.
As for the rest, surely not the best game to watch, mostly without any particular or interesting situation.
Good presence by Kuipers in the end, I can support no foul at the edge of penalty area, and no penalty a few later.

  81. If you asked me, this is good(8,5) game for Kuipers. But, I think that his fitness and every aspect are not for the final. For me, three remaining names for last three games are Rapallini,Makellie and Cakir.

    ReplyDelete
  82. Unfortunately for Kuipers the score ended in 1-2. His performance was OK, but not special too be honest. I have seen better performances this tournament. He will be lucky if he still gets the final but let’s wait what committee does. In Czech media they heavily accuse Kuipers of taking revanche after they defeat Netherlands.

  83. Terrible decision by the referee in the beginning. The corner was not legitimate. I hope the referee get punished for this.
