  1. Particular to see Taylor in Europa League, I think they keep him for important CL games on MD5 and 6 and he could get 4 assignments like other Elite referees...
No Siebert in this round: differently from Marciniak who will go with him in Qatar for the FIFA tournament, so let's see whether he will appear on MD5 before leaving or not. My idea is that the performance in Madrid has been not that good and maybe it is also a good thing to give him a bit of rest after so many big assignments.
A remark about Treimanis, at moment he seems to be very "far" from a promotion, I'm really sorry, basically a good referee, but he had too many mistakes in recent times.
Kulbakov, after the very hot Seville - Salzburg, will be in a good EL clash, this should mean that his performance wasn't assessed as really poor.
Irfan Peljto still waiting for a big jump to CL...

    1. I think that Taylor is only given EL to keep him away from the spotlight after the 2 latest incidents (Kyiv and NL Final).

    2. Yes @greek ref his performances have been okay but some high profile incidents that committee thought worthy to keep him out of the UCL, and come around match day 5 and 6 there may not be any top game for him to handle wIth eyes on the four groups with English teams which rules him out already and the remaining 3 groups assuming he is not reappointed into the group he has already officiated might not be sonorous in nature. So I doubt committee is saving him for that cos look at Felix Brych who still got a game that isn’t befitting of an elite referee. It’s definitely something to keep an eye on.

  2. There is quite a lot to say about the appointment policy of Rosetti et al.

Kruzliak without appointment in MD3/4 due to his poor performance in Napels. Also Kabakov without a match after his penalty call in Wolfsburg - Sevilla. Pawson, Gestranius, Brisard and Buquet also without match in MD3/4.

First group referees without CL/EL matches: Madden (2x ECL), Ozkahya (2x ECL), Schuettengruber (1x ECL), Kavanagh (1x ECL), Vad (1x ECL), Stefanski (1x ECL), Petrescu (1x ECL), Boiko (1x ECL), Ardeleanu, Nijhuis.

    1. To caveat the last two names you mentioned without any such appointment - Ardeleanu has been removed by FAČR and after his television performances during the EURO, I guess Nijhuis is persona non grata as far as Nyon are concerned.

  3. Good match for Bognar. After good performance on MD1 he recieved again UEL.
Surprise for me Madden I excpect him as next elite referee but far from this status with 2 ECL matches…

  4. Lawrence Visser again with a French video referee.
Without his 2 permanent assistant referees.

  5. Riga - Metta (17.10.2021.).

LFF referee observer I.Tagijevs, according with https://www.delfi.lv/sports/news/futbols/lff-soda-pazistamo-tiesnesi-treimani-par-inspektora-darba-un-uzvedibas-kritizesanu.d?id=53742887 , had evaluated A.Treimanis' performance as 7.9.

Check 83:48 (no YC) and 91:56 (YC).

    1. I'm really sorry that all this stuff becomes public, to be honest. It should stay as private.
A question, so in Latvia the referee's evaluation scale is the same used by UEFA?

      Delete
    2. Yes in Latvia same as UEFA. Unfortunate many domestic performances by Treimanis are not top levell

    3. Haters from Latvia are not sleeping:)

  7. Lawrence Visser allows much physical play in Legia Warszawa - Napoli. He reminds me Aliaksiej Kuĺbakoŭ in this regard. The only goal scored after a good onside call by Ruben Wyns. Visser rightly refrained from showing yellow cards for SPA-like fouls in 13' and 16'. In 24', I think he missed a running-too-close foul on Legia player which should have resulted in a FK and YC to Juan Jesus (Napoli) for SPA being given. In 36', I think a YC to Demme (Napoli) would have been a better choice for his reckless (imo) tackle.

    1. Napoli penalty is doubtful don't know if its VAR stuff or not but very soft.

      Delete
    2. It's clearly wrong if you ask me! Absolutely fair shoulder-to-shoulder challenge... Well, difficult for VAR to intervene if it's up to referee's interpretation but I think it would be better for football world if VAR intervene in such cases.

Another penalty incident (holding) in 52'.

      Delete
    3. Penalty: https://streamja.com/rd57w
Normal contact, evident mistake by referee in whistling it, one can argue that both players pushed with shoulders each other.
Very borderline for a possible VAR intervention, I think Millot was in trouble to make a decision, but it should be OK according to protocol to stay silent.

      Delete
    4. Now another penalty, clearly reported by AR2, right in front of him. Clear call: player hit opponent with foot on his arm while trying to play ball, quite reckless action.

      Delete
    5. Another very good assessment by AR2 for 1-3 goal.
Excellent performance on the sideline, two crucial calls and the penalty reported to Visser.

      Delete
    6. Second penalty: https://streamja.com/aXG5e

      Delete
    7. The first penalty, the defender makes contact with the calf, so I think penalty is supportable.

      Delete
    8. Visser whistled the end at 94:30, he had given 5 minutes.
This shouldn't be done in any case.

      Delete
    9. Excellent spot, David! My apologies to Mr Visser and Mr Millot! Penalty at least supportable if not simply correct then.

    10. The three penalty incidents:

      49' https://send.cm/d/5mYt
      52' https://send.cm/d/5mYu
      74' https://send.cm/d/5mYv

      Delete
    11. I think Visser whistled a good game.
I agree with the two penalties that Visser gave.

What score would you give him?

      Delete
    12. I don't know if anyone noticed but before 1st penalty incident NAP#5 had one foot inside the pitch during throw-in.

      Delete
    13. Thank you ESR, I'm glad I can contribute a bit.
@anonymous 09:45: There is a common misconception that both feet must be behind the line. But the throw in is still legal, even if just the back of the foot is still on the line, so IMO the throw-in is legal :)

      Delete
    14. 52' That is a PK to be whistled IMO. Surely not easy to see in real time, but with VARs, I would want an intervention. What do you think ESR?

      Delete
    15. In my opinion in occasion of first penalty, he whistled the shoulder / shoulder contact, he didn't detect what David pointed out. However, thank to that, the penalty becomes supportable decision, but still soft from my point of view. Otherwise, I would have assessed it as mistake.
      Agreed with the second penalty.
About the situation in 52', in my opinion not a penalty, live you don't have this perception and I can add that this incident was not mentioned at all by Italian media... of course if you whistle, it is a good thing, but basically never a crucial mistake for me. The attacker can "bear" this holding, but surely it shouldn't be done by defender.

Further situations mentioned by Euro Soccer Ref.
24' possible YC for SPA, well, one could maybe even introduce DOGSO argument, for this reason I made the clip, however I think in case of whistle better YC. Visser saw and assessed directly as you can see in a replay. Legia coach, asking for VAR to fourth official, thinking about a RC.

  8. I think that Schärer should have whistled later than in 90+5' (4 given) after one mass confrontation in injury time + another small one when Lokomotiv player interrupted the restart of play. Otherwise I liked his performance.

  9. has anyone followed Mariani in Lyon?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. yes. He was good, expected level. Good foul detection and disciplinary control. The match was easy-going after Lyon’s goals. Maybe too early for a UCL debut. Anyway, i would test him in a more difficult match in MD5 and , in case, appoint him in UCL in MD6.

    2. Was in stadium. Very good performance by Mariani. Expected level in an easy-going match as replus said.

  11. Missed offside by AR1 in LEV-BET.

  12. Marseille - Lazio minute 29': OFR after a very long check by VAR.
A holding is the subject of the call. I think that the holding was not that blatant, but fully missed incident and so OFR.

  13. RC in 11' by Bognár in Belgrade. Textbook DOGSO.

    1. This was a very clear decision, you can be even sure that attacker would have reached ball.

      Delete
  14. Another VAR intervention in Marseille for 1-1, wrong offside call by AR2. There was a situation deflection / deliberate play after a touch by defender, but I think attacker who got ball was still in regular position, so no discussion at all about that.
Without VAR, this game would have had a totally different outcome so far. Not the best performance by the Spanish crew, missing in two crucial decisions.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Another VAR intervention in Marseille, wrong offside given by AR2.

  16. IMO correct PK by Meler in LEI-SPM

    ReplyDelete
  17. Correct red card for Demirbay and Fekir by Taylor

    ReplyDelete
  18. Two Red cards brilliantly spotted by Anthony Taylor without the need of var

    ReplyDelete
  19. Mass confrontation in Leverkusen and two RC issues by Taylor. Those two are correct, but carefully analysed, there could for sure be some more cards for a lot of players. But those two red cards are the most important thing here, well done by Taylor and his team on field, VAR was not needed.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Tamas Bognar will be persona non grata in Belgrade!!! 2 red cards and lot of yellows for Red Star. First RC and most of YCs correct, but he missed lot of small fouls in favor of home side. At the end second YC for protest because AR2 WRONGLY signaled that the ball was out (not even close, nor he could see that because he was 3-4 meters from goal line) and it was big chance for Red Star.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Any video of these red cards?

    2. One was already posted here (DOGSO):

  21. Olympiakos - Frankfurt (Kulbakov, Valeri)

29': missed RC for SFP. He issued YC and as he said to Olympiakos' coach in HT, VAR didn't function due to technical problem so he didn't change his decision to RC

90+2': 1-2 for Frankfurt and there is possible offensive foul against Lala from Ndicka. For me goal had to be disallowed

    2. Thanks, a RC should have been definitely issued in 30', maybe not Kulbakov fault, but see fourth official's point of view:
      https://ibb.co/V9v9bkf
He could have informed referee. About VAR, a pity that officials are sent from different country for a game very far away but VAR can't be used, surely a waste of money for nothing, you can't know that before, but maybe it would be good to plan some emergency plans.
66': rather no penalty, I agree, attacker tries to make the most of it, I think.
90'+1: I don't see this foul reported, maybe it happened before this video?

      Delete
    3. 30' RC IMO
66' IMO really not enough for a PK, I would want VAR to intervene if a PK is given.
91' I also think the video 'greek ref' provided does not show the incident.

    4. Here is the scene at 90+1'

      https://send.cm/d/5nAL

    5. @David once a penalty is given in that situation, never VAR stuff, would be strongly against protocol to remove the call.

90'+1: according to this video, without closer replay, I don't see a foul, rather a strong challenge between both players to get ball, even more knowing Kulbakov and his style he would never whistle that

      Delete
    6. @Chefren: you are right, the defender leans into him and takes a risk.

  22. I from Belgrade. I watcehd Mr. Bognar from TV. I must say, he was excellent. Big pressure in the stadium, big rain. Both red card are clear. All yellow also. I didn't saw his previous matches from this season, but yestarday was top performance.

    2. Very hot and extremly challenging game with very good performance by Bognar. Both RC were
clear, after first the home team expected some “help” from the referee. He was calm and have to mention his excellent fitness.

  23. I watched Treimanis yesterday and can report a very good performance from him, despite of one or two wrong corner/goal kick decisions no mistakes. AR1 correctly disallowed a possible 2:1 in the very last minute, not the easiest decision, well done. All YC correct and not more needed. Teams were concentrated on playing football and no unsporting situations, but all in all it was a pleasure to watch him, you simply had the feeling that there couldn't go anything wrong.

  24. I think there was a rule mistake in the gala-loko match in Istanbul. The 2nd player of the locomotive team (zhivoglyadov) receives a yellow card in 90+1 minutes, the same player receives another yellow card in 90+3, but he does not see a red card from the second yellow card, he continues to play. In the uefa records, only the yellow card in 90+3 minutes is noted, but in the stream, there is the card he saw in 90+1 too.

    2. I think the first YC for foul was shown immediatelly to de-escalate the situation but nobody (especially the player) took notice of it. Then when the mass confrontation was calmed down, all YC (1 for initial foul, 2 for confrontation) were shown to all to clarify.

      Delete
    3. Indeed I think that Schaerer didn't have time to take note of the first YC he issued in 90'+1 and maybe he showed it again to make it even clearer to player, if this was for the same previous foul, still OK. otherwise a mistake, of course, caused by the confusion after the whistle.
He shouldn't have shown the card so earlier without then having chance to write down everything.

    5. After rewatching, its clear that the player committed only one yellow card and was shown again just to make sure he took notice of yc for starting foul. Quite polemical is rest.
