ReplyDeleteVery easy first half. Very few free kicks with good balance so far. Good injury detection just before half time after a head to head collision. Nothing major to report so far.
ReplyDeleteVery satisfying to see the interactions between players and referee in the first 45 minutes. Players approach the referee with respect, they genuinely listen to the instructions/explanations from the man in black.

ReplyDeleteI did, but had to rewatch it first, because no one else seemed to notice and I kind of doubted my own perception. However, I was right and agree with you, missed follow-through foul for me there. Of course, a YC wouldn't have been wrong as well, at least for me.
DeleteEverything else was good in a pretty easy 1H, Nyberg with a generally good foul detection and some good interactions with the players. A positive performance so far.
Clear free kick but nothing major as I said. Free kick would have been the optimal call though.
DeleteI noticed as well, but such isolated incidents “fade away” when the big picture is positive. Great sportsmanship of both teams. Pleasure to watch.

DeleteBut here on the blog is about Nyberg, who was very good. Easy game but this is not his fault. Great impresion today, I was really impressed by the team work, the ARs had an active role. Let's see what will be the next game for the Swedish crew. Before the tournament I said that he is a name for the KO stage, I still reckon that. Even more now but of course it depends about the performance in the next group stage game.

ReplyDeleteHe missed the foul in the 84th minute and VAR would intervene in case of a possible goal. And his first mistake.
ReplyDeleteBall was played first, and the he missed I think the studs on the foot. I agree it would be VAR intervention. But didn't become major/big mistake. So I think it will have an influence.
DeleteEven so, it doesn't tarnish Nyberg excellent performance so far. For me, one of the best in this Euro.
ReplyDeleteI agree, only maybe important to add that it also was the easiest game. I would say very easy game difficulty. So I think we shouldn't expect less from a referee. So good performance in easy game should be the analysis.

ReplyDeleteHe will surely get a more challenging second game, but it's always difficult to talk about the best performance. If we look back at previous games and we compare them with this one, well, it's surely unfair. I think that it was very hard today to imagine a EURO referee with troubles, but still, not Nyberg fault, and he made a very good impressione in what he had to do.
ReplyDeleteVery calm game. Nyberg excellent in close proximity when things could escalate. As usual his strong natural charisma and communication skills shine through and win full acceptance from the players. Expected/Good foul detection with minor misses that didn’t affect the game/the overall sentiment of his performance. Also like how active his ARs are and that they showcase their teamwork outwards, looks like they all are involved. A bunch of good advantages, one leading to a goal and overall a good performance in a normal game with two football focused teams. Nyberg and his team should be happy!
ReplyDeleteA very good performance for me. Two mistakes to mention are missed fouls in 8' and 84', nut nothing major in the end. Apart from that, everything else was on a good level: general foul detection and disciplinary line (one YC for each team), nice interaction with the players ensuring good match control without any problems, simply excellent fitness and positioning on the FoP. I would also like to highlight Nyberg's excellent game reading, with some nice advantages resulting in promising attacks throughout the whole game (the one in 53' resulted in a goal). AR1 with a very good performance as well, including a really tight onside before the 3-0 by Romania.
ReplyDeleteLastly, it is worth to mention Nyberg's calm, even tranquil way of communication and player management. IMO, it was ideal for this game, especially how he used his presence to prevent any possible problems and/or altercations towards the end of the match, instantly cooling any potential heated moments. A job well done.
Great fair play from ROM#18 - 79 minutes: he sits on the grass, looks up at the referee who has a yellow card in his hand. #18 raises his arm, asking the referee to help him get back on his feet - and thereby accepts the yellow card.
ReplyDeleteI think Nyberg's solid and effective performance will see him promoted to more demanding games even at this early stage. Examples: Italy x Croatia, Germany x Switzerland or England x Denmark

Should have been YC, indeed high studs making contact with knee, but after having played ball and without excessive force.
Interesting question is whether VAR would have supported a RC if given by referee live, but hard to see a RC directly by referee in this case. Very clear and expected YC. In case of goalby Romania, mandatory VAR intervention for me, for reckless challenge.

ReplyDeleteThe management skills can contribute, but the challenging incidents can always happen! Nobody wants to say that referee shouldn't be praised, but clearly there are games and games!
