    1. At least three people wearing the right colors in our stadium... :)
Question is: Why? Are they avoiding blue because of the Geo goal keeper?

    2. Yes, that should be the reason. So only yellow and gold were possible.

  2. Easy game to Tello so far. Feisty and high paced attacking game but not much to do as yet.

  3. SAOT image published, the offside was much tighter than what I thought.

  4. VAR intervention for disallowing 2-0 by TUR.
100% impossible for assistant referee, SAOT was shown right now.
Only VAR stuff. On paper, still a correction, but absolutely no responsibility for AR.

    1. 100% agree. But I guess we'll soon read comments about a blatant mistake again...

  5. Beautifully delayed whistle to award a free kick for TUR in '38.

  6. I have to say I appreciate Tello’s performance very much so far. An optimal balance between letting the play flow and whistling the true fouls. Wait and see application good and a correct (but easy) caution. I also agree that AR2 cannot be blamed for the no-offside call at the disallowed goal.

  7. Tello, like Rapallini 3 years ago, showing he would belong at the top of elite in UEFA. Fantastic refereeing allowing for a great game

  8. waow, 55 minutes i think an advantage, but i don't know the rules.

    1. Attempt to give advantage, called by UEFA "delayed whistle", then returning back once nothing happened later. Surely something very good that Rosetti teaches regularly to Elite referees.

  9. Great refereeing from Tello bye Freekick Turkey and Yello Kverkvelia.

  10. Again excellent application of wait and see, followed by the delayed free kick and a correct yellow card!

  11. In 55' a very interesting situation, after a delayed whistle, Tello punished a step on foot outside the box with a correct YC, he had tried to give advantage, on the following situation Turkey also asked for a penalty, but nothing relevant was shown after replay.

  12. Tello with great performance so far
, maybe the best in the tournamnet.

And I agree,Tello,Rapallini and even maybe Herrera would for sure be Uefa' Ellite, these 3 are different level in Argentina.

  13. Min 50
IMO, missed yellow card. Very late, from behind, unnecessary, and with force. Definitely not in line with the line he set with the earlier caution. By his reaction you could tell that the foul inflamed the Georgia bench.
But, I get the feeling that Tello didn't fully appreciate how bad the foul was. A situation in which the 4th official should have assisted Tello in the situation.

    1. Yes, YC was expected here, this was the only situation so far in which I agree with him. But I think he was aware, just didn't want to book.

    2. I understand your point, and maybe one could say a yellow card was expected, but with regard to the ‘very late’ argument, he initially did play the ball with the other leg.

    3. Remember, according to the new directives. "Playing the ball first", no longer means that whatever happens after is okay.

I fully believe, that if Tello hadn't been screened and had he fully perceived the foul. He would have cautioned the Turkish player. It's the type of caution that Latin American referee's typically always give.

  14. He has been good, unfussy dealt with pressure from sidelines with a look and let 2 free flowing teams play.

  15. Atypical penalty incident, correct play-on, imo:

    1. If the attacking player was attempting to head the ball rather than do an overhead kick I think the case for a penalty would be far stronger.

      As it was, good decision

    2. I agree, correct NO VAR intervention. It stays as grey area, but more difficult for VAR to decide about a penalty whistled live by referee, I think it would have been supported as wel... but very controversial, in case.

    3. Correct decision for me as well, I think Ecosse gave a very good explanation as to why. My opinion is the same. However, certainly a very interesting situation.

  16. Far the best game and far the most interesting game, and also the best refereeing so far! Bad luck for Georgia,

  17. Almost excellent performance by Tello. This match showed us that there is not low profile games. Full control, technical aspescts very good,we have the best performance of tournament. 8.5

  18. Quite good performance by Tello, unless he has a weak 2nd game he should have booked his place for a KO stage game.

  19. You hardly noticed him - looked cool and calm.

  20. Tello contributed to the best game of the tournament this season. Brilliant performance from the Argentinian who reffed the game brilliantly. Best refereeing performance of the Euros so far. Well done Tello and team. 8.7

  21. Absolutely brilliant, Tello can be proud of himself and his team. I am really impressed!

  22. By far the most spectacular game of the tournament up to now and IMHO also the best refereeing performance so far. Excellent feeling for the game, Tello knew when to step in and when not, good disciplinary line and strong soft skills. Game as well as refereeing were a promotion for Euro’s!

  23. Whar does 8.4, 8.5, 8.7 mean? How do you give the Referees points?

    1. The UEFA ranking system for referees: https://ibb.co/q9gqV0z

    2. It's really a system without logic. You can say a referee was perfect and great but it will only be 8,4. They should leave that system.

    3. Add on to the UEFA scoring system:
The UEFA scoring system is not only limited to the performance but also to the difficulty degree of the game being:

Level of difficulty must be integrated into the mark and should be assessed for each match official separately according to how the match turns out.
Normal: Normal match for the officials; few challenging situations
Quite challenging: Difficult match with some difficult decisions for the officials
Very challenging: Very difficult match with many difficult situations for the official.

      Chefren:
Perhaps an idea to explain from the blog once the UEFA scoring system in more detail including by giving examples of important mistakes.

  24. Not the most skilled football on display today. But by far the most entertaining match so far. Two teams who stepped on to the pitch looking for and going after the win. Unlike previous teams who played cautiously, playing not to lose instead of playing to win.

Well done by Mr. Tello and his crew. He let his whistle do it's job to handle most if not all situations. Minimal unnecessary, overused, overrated, and typically ineffective endless blah, blah, blah with players like other referee's. He was there to referee the match not to conversate. For my taste, a single missed caution at Min. 50. But I fully believe that he didn't get a full/clear look at the foul as he was somewhat screened.

  25. I join in praising an excellent performance by Tello and his crew. It certainly was a really good refereeing display, very similar to Rapallini at the last EURO.

He had a very a good line in foul detection IMO, with a really nice balance between letting the game flow and choosing proper fouls to whistle. His excellent reading of the game has to be mentioned as well, with several nice advantages and/or delayed whistles, including the one in 55', which resulted in a potential penalty to TUR. All of this contributed to a really nice and entertaining game. As for the KMIs, both potential penalties (55' for TUR and 82' for GEO) were correctly solved, at least for me. The VAR intervention to disallow potential 2-0 for TUR is absolutely no reason for any blame to AR2, it was probably impossible to see such an offside live. Actually, the assistant was absolutely right in putting his flag down, fully in accordance with the protocol.

Disciplinary control was very good, although I have to say I expected nothing less from an Argentinian referee. The only actual mistake of the match for me was the missed YC for TUR18 in 50', for a reckless step on foot; however, I agree with Arbiter above that Tello probably couldn't see/perceive the foul properly, as his vision was somewhat blocked. All the other 3 YCs (35', 55', 80') were absolutely correct, with the 55' one for GEO5 coming after a nice delayed whistle. Match control was without any issues; Tello seemed like an absolute authority on the FoP, earning respect from the players with his calm demeanor, but assertive when needed, which I liked very much.

Overall, another very good display by an Argentinian referee in a European match. It seems these matches really suit them. I also had a certain feeling Tello was enjoying refereeing this game. Frankly, I certainly enjoyed watching his performance today.

  26. A typical South American referee management allowed some positions, did not stop the game too much, had a very good match.

  27. As I read through the messages. The ones that stand out to me (I wholeheartedly agree with) are "unfussy" and "you hardly noticed him".
Dare I say, the anti Mateu Lahoz?

    1. 1H scene is absolutely in the manageable zone imo, but the second (especially in this Euro!) should result in a caution being issued; a clear, borderline to YC, foul was committed and Montella's gesture(s) crossed the line of acceptable conduct.

      Delete
    2. Typical Italian behavior, while on the other bench it looked like there wasn't any coach? :)
Still, I don't understand why fourth official needed so long before intervening in the first case, while in the second it is possible he missed the gesture, but still, allowing the coach to stay mostly always out from technical area... not good by Rumsas.

    3. @Mikael W the gesture by the coach in the second clip is an automatic yellow card. Mandatory and crystal clear, cannot go unpunished but honestly where is the fourth official :p
