  1. Low profile game for Makkelie, despite host country. Probably Marciniak to the big match Spain-Italy

  2. VAR choices are interesting:
    - Letexier worked with Brisard in the KO stage, but gets Delajod now. Maybe Turpin is planned on Thursday?
    - Kwiatkowski could indicate no Marciniak on Thursday - which would be surprising as he seems a sensible choice for all three games there (and is not possible for the big games on Friday).

  3. Taylor most likely not to be on the pitch on Thursday (ENG group + he already did ESP as 4th official). So Taylor for NED-FRA on Friday?

  4. If not for the mentioned VAR hints, it would be quite obvious that we see Kovacs, Marciniak and Siebert on Thursday and Taylor in one of the Friday games.

  5. Expected appointments for me if Marciniak was going to struggle to get selected to a Germany game - Makkelie was really the only other option (who hasn't been appointed).

Observers are clearly stationed in a city as mentioned previously.

    I'd now predict for 20th:
    Svn v Ser - Siebert
    Den v Eng - Kovacs
    Spa v Ita - Marciniak

    1. However, if the observers are stationed in a city, then we could see two Germans in Group C with Zwayer on Den v Eng, leaving Kovacs & Taylor for the group D games

    2. I wonder, if it would make sense to swap Siebert and Kovacs there, as the Yugoslavia derby might be the more difficult game.

I don't think, that the observer cities should influence the referee appointments. If there is a conflict in one game, they could still send someone else.

  6. I think we will see Marciniak in the Slovenia-Serbia match. Kovacs in the Spain-Italy match

  7. Spain v Italy could be Vincic. Also possible to see Marciniak in Turkey v Portugal

    1. Yes, Vincic another option for Spain - Italy.

  8. The game for Letexier can be very challenging, after having seen Croatia against Spain, I think they are at same level with Albania and so this can be easily considered as crucial clash for qualification.
Makkelie starts with the host, Germany, with the chance to get bigger games later.
Scotland - Switzerland seems OK for Kruzliak. I think that Scotland hardly will fight for qualification.
The treatment for Marciniak is very particular, one should also include Taylor because the Englush has not been appointed like the Polish, but clearly without the CL incident, Marciniak would have already got a first game. I have doubts he will offciate a clash like Spain - Italy. Yes, it can be less important like somebody was explaining yesterday in a comment, because both teams are not very favorite for qualification in all cases, but still... on the other hand, in case of Kovacs appointment, the Romanian would meet again some Spanish players after Barcelona - PSG. It will be interesting to know the appointment. Are we allowed to think that maybe Turpin was planned for that game and then after Germany - Scotland committee had to change plans? But having to make a choice between Kovacs and Marciniak, I would rather say the Polish. Taylor still impossible with Italy, he should then get a game on Friday, as you already said.

    1. Kwiatkowski is appointed as VAR on Wednesday. Therefore it is not likely to see Marciniak on Thursday, I would say.

    2. I think the Kwiatolski appointment with Kruzliak doesn't necessarily mean he won't be appointed on the Thursday, however it is an interesting choice which may suggest a different appointment to the Polish.

    3. I think Marciniak's VAR referee will be Frankowski or from another country and I think she is still suitable for the Slovenia-Serbia match

    4. I don't know if the rumours are actually true that Marciniak would have been scheduled for the opening game. In my opinion, it would also have made sense to appoint him as the reigning World Cup final referee for only ONE (late) preliminary round match like Spain - Italy and then directly in the round of sixteen. Especially if you assume that each referee should receive at least two assignments.

    5. All is about how much importance committee will give to Real Madrid - Bayern incident. I think that hw will not handle Spain - Italy exactly for this reason, but of course I would be very happy to see that I'm wrong. So far, the Polish has been totally hidden.

  9. Risky appointment for Makkelie and his further appearance if you ask me. German media not amused. Already bringing back Leipzig - PSG penalty and Chelsea -BVB penalty on the table.

    1. Every time Cakir refereed England, the media here would write articles about the previous expulsions of Balotelli, Terry, Gerrard etc... who cares what they think, honestly.

    2. Surely not a risky appointment for Makkelie this time, in my opinion. You should consider that Germany won more than easily first game, and they are the favourite also for this one against Hungary. The background is very soft. The previous incidents you mentioned don't have definitely the same importance of very discussed refereeing cases Also, Germany is the last country making such troubles, and we all know about the very risky assignments, involving other teams. I'm sure that the Dutch has been planned to start in this way, to get more later.

    3. They always start digging.

Chelsea fans already approve the referee when he’s not bald.

Bayern München has never lost a game with Makkelie in the middle. Eat that ;)

    4. I would not use BILD newspaper as an objective reference. It quotes Matthias Sammer with "Danny Makkelie should have solved a penalty decision 'with personality' instead of awarding it".

    5. Impossible for all referees to be completely clean with every team, you would simply run out of referees. I understand where there has been a major major incident/ mistake like Oliver/ Taylor/ Makkelie (PSG) and maybe even Kovacs (barcelona) and the countries involved, anything minor like a red card/ penalty against should be ignored.

  10. Prediction 20 June
    Slovenia – Serbia: Daniel Siebert
    Denmark – England: Szymon Marciniak
    Spain – Italy: István Kovács
