    1. Yes! First he falls - then the contact. Diver.

    2. Actually he got clearly hit before he fell but it can never be a penalty based on the atmoshphere. But clear contact then he fell then contact again. Look and you will se from the behind angle.

    3. Victor, I couldn't reply to you on the previous page. But I commend you for enforcing the Laws of the Game. And cautioning and sending off that player for his dissent.

  2. @Benoit,
Do you remember what Geiger whistled in match Korea-Germany? Situatuon in Germany's penalty area. Hi gave YC to Korea player for diving.
That was for big disscusion, was it diving or normal contact.

Now, when he had clear diving, he didin't react. The referee put himself in trouble.

    1. The ONLY card for diving during WC and this isn’t a fifa order ? Please tell me where in history of football refereeing you can give me examples of numerous dissents and violent attitudes of players against referees without cards ? That’s clearly a guideline problem. As excessive cards were in 1998 in France. But, I repeat. Agree with all bloggers about Geiger poor management and charisma.

      Delete
    2. I fully agree with you about FIFA instrucions for the referees.
They made problem on the pitch.
As you said in last sentence, Geiger's management and charisma are poor.

  3. Like I said fifa will not take any risk for sf and final,,geiger was good but 3. Match really bad,,,so we will see most experienced referees for sf and final,,, pitana kuipers and cakir my predictions for last 3 matches

    1. I agree, I think after the 70' onwards after he showed all those cards the players have been better behaved and Geiger has been more in control.

      Delete
  5. Noticed he used his spray there as England gained a few yards with the free kick position. Should've done that in the first half as that was contributing to Colombia delaying the restarts.

    ReplyDelete
  6. Before his header off.foul Falcao ignored by Geiger.85.

    ReplyDelete
  7. Despite this match, I never liked his presence on the pitch.
Someone called Geiger good manager, what I can't understand.

Even with the best performance on the WC, I would say this.

    ReplyDelete
  8. I hope, the time, which the Colombians wasted at the PK will not be added on...

  9. Notice how much the match has calmed down considerably and the dirty play has decreased since the flurry of yellow cards between minutes 50 and 70... if Geiger had gone to the pocket earlier maybe it would have helped him. Why he didn't go to the pocket, for the leniency the committee wants or for some other reason, we may never know.

    1. Presence and Authority are not given or taken away by the Referee Committee or any directive.

      Delete
    2. I said in the earlier thread that Geiger is best at using his cards to control the game. In my opinion he felt the urge to keep the cards in his pocket during the first half on account of the wishes for leniency by the committee. I think these directives disarmed him of his best tool, but I wish he was better at finding alternative methods of controlling a match.

    6. Agree with change in game. There needs to be clear direction or, better yet, ACTION. When more than one player argues or delays (as was done twice here), a YC must be produced.

  10. Well this match wraps up the participation for my confederation (CONCACAF). All of our teams have been eliminated and after this match our referee's will be done also. Even though I highly doubt it and to be honest he doesn't deserve it. But I wouldn't mind seeing Ramos get another assignment. One can always dream Lol :D

    ReplyDelete
  11. Should be added time minimum 6 min.

    ReplyDelete
  12. Geigering referee style: all assigments only Colombia. The England put hand and he didnt assign. PEN polemic. Talks a lot. Follow The game very far. Loose control. Worst at all

    3. Worst referee so far match!! Any doubt? See The PEN: both players push and pull

      Delete
    4. You can argue about the performance of Geiger but the penalty was crystal clear!

      Delete
    5. @Fab GX: Penalty was not awarded for the push and pulling, it was for the COL player jumping on ENG players back. My wife even saw it and noted it as a PK.

      Delete
    6. But its serious. See the image again. The english player pull first and colombian push then

  13. I have a question for all of you : since the beginning of the WC, we see Referees indicating the benches with only one arm for substitutions, despite the fact that the usual signal is with two arms. Do you know whether this is an indication from FIFA ?

    3. Behavior has been poor from both teams. And the referee has been complicit in allowing it to get to this point.

    5. Haha nice idea, but I have to say really hard game for any referee ,,ahh excepting faghani sure :)))

      Delete
  19. Very interesting to see how extra time goes for Geiger now. I think he may have been able to regain control and respect with all the yellows he showed at the start of the second half. Let's see if that came true.

    ReplyDelete

    1. Do you expect him for another game? To be honest, I'm having a feeling that his chances are over :(

      Delete
    2. The problem is-
      too many players have YC

      Delete
    3. Soham, you can't reward mediocrity. It would be an injustice to those referee's who have done it right in each of their matches.

      Delete
    4. At this point I don't see him in another game, but who knows? This would have been a very difficult match for ANY referee, and maybe the committee will give a lot of value to that.

      Delete
    5. Be as biased as you can be. But you know very well deep down inside that he's a failure today. And failure doesn't deserve to be rewarded.

      Delete
    6. I said I don't see him in another game. I can keep a sliver of optimistic hope though, can't I? :_)

      Delete
    7. As I said before. This match marks the end for CONCACAF. I'd be more than ecstatic to see Ramos(he deserves it more than Geiger) again. But I know that it's not going to happen. Too many other referee's have been better in each and every one of their matches.

      Delete
  20. Further 30 minutes for Geiger, to be honest this was my last wish... I'm very worried for extra time. At least a RC will appear there.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Probably, Geiger to AR's :"Ohh,sh#t"
    Deserved equalizer.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Unfortunately Geiger has lost all respect from both sides. No authority left.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Colombians are joking with geiger. It took 3 minutes to came back to their own half. In fact, Falcao didn't even do that - Geiger whistled to play when he was still in England's half.

    3. Soham, he's violated them since he blew the first whistle to start the match.

    4. I'm also becoming a LOTG man day by day... Geiger has been sickening to watch today... The worst performance of the tournament!

    5. Soham, don't change who or what you as a referee. Just know that even from this terrible and unacceptable diplay from Geiger. You can learn how things are not supposed to be done.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Young clearly goes over the ball and plants his studs in the Colombians shin. Yet it's a foul against Colombia? What? Geiger is completely lost and needs a compass to find himself and the match.

    1. I think the ref blow the whistle earlier because of the second ball

      Delete
  40. Does that second ball interfere with play. I think no. It never even enters the pitch.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. IT did when the AR is distracted by it. Remember you AR's are art of the team and need to have the attention on the game.

      Delete
    2. Then the AR should have maintained his focus on the pitch. He's an AR not a ball boy. Do your job and maintain focus. If he doesn't do his ball boy impression. The ball rolls onto the pitch and Geiger is able to sell the call much better.

    4. Guys I agree. Thus why I said "wow". But it just goes to show how truly poor Geiger has been today. And we as referee's can only put up with and accept a certain level of ineptitude before we "blow up"

      Delete
    5. Although it's a real bad performance... no need for those comments, especially from a former World Cup Final Referee. He should remember the moment when Zidane made his head-bump. Elizondo should be lucky that he got help from the fourth official , otherwise he would have missed it and everybody would remember him doing this... so I would appreciate a little bit more respect from Mr.Elizondo

      Delete
    6. Sascha, I agree with first part of your comment. But you can't say that otherwise he would have missed it... referee can't see everything on the pitch, specially if he follows the ball. That's why ARs are existing (one of the reasons) :)

I don't see that Chigozie Iheanacho ever said that Geiger should get a final so Soham your comment is totaly wrong and not in place (Chefren once warned you that you have to be more respectful to other comentators on this blog). But Chigozie is right, no crucial mistakes by Geiger. Poor management and control, but no crucial mistakes. After this match, I am sure Kuipers will be the one for the final. Second Europa League final proved that Collina trust him very much, and Collina will take no risk in final.

  61. I want to hear your opinions guys regarding this question: it's been clear that both teams did not respect Geiger's authority from the start of this game, with no acceptance in the first half. Why do you think this is? What could he have done done differently to have more authority early on? I always see comments here like "he doesn't show enough personality" but what specifically do you guys mean by that?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. He doesn't have a natural authority or personality that will draw out players' acceptance or respect. Pitana is someone whose physical build forces players to respect him. Kuipers and Cakir are referees who with strong personalities and their calmness win over players' acceptance. Geiger basically has none of that!

      Delete
    2. At least he does not chew a gum.

      Delete
    3. A stern warning for the first dissent for each team, followed by a YC and another if needed would have stopped some of the second half chippiness. But its clear the players were going to try to influence the referee in many ways mad this game very difficult.

      Delete
    4. Taken the Brych route. Early cautions. Boom! Since he has no God given physical presence or authority. Unfortunately Geiger is like the "nerd" of officiating. People don't really know why they don't like him or respect him. But they just don't.

      Delete
    5. Honestly, my friend, with all the respect, you can't show something you don't have.
His lack of referee charisma and the way of the self presentation are the main reason for lack of the acceptance.
Poor disciplinary control and man managment today are just one of many other reasons.

      Delete
    6. I agree sheriff, I think he is seen as the "nerd" of referees.

Also, Ahmet, what is with your obsession with gum?

@Soham, how would you describe Cakir's personality? He's IMO the anti-Pitana in terms of physical build.
