    2. Turpin well there is 2 french teams...Taylor this is its first year in CL KO Stage so it would be very weird IMO and Makkelie it is too early I would put him as 4th official.

I want to thank Dr Emu a very powerful spell caster who help me to bring my husband back to me, few month ago i have a serious problem with my husband, to the extend that he left the house, and he started dating another woman and he stayed with the woman, i tried all i can to bring him back, but all my effort was useless until the day my friend came to my house and i told her every thing that had happened between me and my husband, then she told me of a powerful spell caster who help her when she was in the same problem I then contact Dr Emu and told him every thing and he told me not to worry my self again that my husband will come back to me after he has cast a spell on him, i thought it was a joke, after he had finish casting the spell, he told me that he had just finish casting the spell, to my greatest surprise within 48 hours, my husband really came back begging me to forgive him, if you need his help you can contact him with via email: Emutemple@gmail.com or add him up on his whatsapp +2347012841542 is willing to help any body that need his help.

  6. With Lahoz out of the final now, Ι think the odds now are in favour of Orsato.

  7. If I am not wrong Orsato is 45, could it be that this is his last year on FIFA list that he will retire at the end of the year? That is only thing that makes sense why Orsato and not Lahoz for the final (Lahoz is 43 and Spain abandoned the age limit). But on the other hand Marciniak is also there, two times observed by Rosetti, that could mean something...
Although one must say, Lahoz was very good this season, including El Clasico he whistled this season where he was just PERFECT, probably one of the best performances in El Clasico ever.

  8. Wow, I’m really shocked by this. It seemed almost like a formality at this point that the final would be his.

  9. Following on from the FA Cup final where the PGMOL decided to give the match to a referee for the 2nd time due to no crowds etc, I personally would not be suprised now that Lahoz has the SF and as such would be extremely unlikely to have the final, that Skomina is given the final. Turpin in the EL final is more likely due to 2 French teams in UCL SF however, maybe they will take the wait and see approach, who knows.

For me, Skomina and Turpin (definitely should of been Lahoz though).

  10. On the other hand we had Clattenburg in 2016 with semi-final and final so you never know...

    1. Yeah, but Lahoz isnt so good as Clatts. I respect Mateu a lot, but I strongly belive that Makkelie can be appointed as Cl final ref.

      Delete
    2. Good point, but first of all that was a Leg 1 match, so there was a game for both teams in between, and, well, I think Clattenburg’s 2016 was so good that they had to make an exception. That year for him really was one of the most dominant years ever from a referee, it’s hard to compare anyone else to that standard.

  11. I had forgotten indeed about the abolishmnent of age limits for Spain, so Mateu will have still chances as well. But at the same time there will be internal competition with del Cerro and that's maybe not totally good for both of them!

    ReplyDelete
  12. Well, as a spaniard (and rather pro-Mateu than Del Cerro), I will share my thoughts on this.

First, we would need to see the final appointment before saying if it is fair or unfair, and even then it would be difficult.

Let's suppose UEFA has gone the "english way" and either Kuipers, Çakir, Brych or Skomina will be appointed. That would be partly fair, as UCL final is a unique experience and without fans it won't be the same. This same principle should be applied to UEL final then, too, and Kuipers could fit there. However, this may close the window for some referees, including Mateu and Orsato, specially the second one.

If the final is given to a different referee, then it depends.
If it is Orsato, it would clearly be politics and a huge bet. He's about to retire (while Mateu has two seasons before reaching the age limit, and even then it is expected that he could continue) and seems like the only chance Italy has for a while. It's been 7 years since the last UCL final refereed by an italian.

However, it is 15 years for a spanish referee. And the window for them has been a lot narrower than for italian referees, with Juventus being the only team with serious options of reaching the final. So, in terms of politics, the arguments would be very close together between the two of them, also considering that Mateu already had chances last season and was not appointed.

If it is performance based, the only names I can see that would deserve this appointment this season, also ignoring experience, which has been key for the appointments in the previous years, only Turpin, Makkelie and maybe Marciniak (although he isn't as good as he was in his firsts seasons as Elite) would be acceptable, and the former is very difficult to see given that there will likely be a French team involved.

But Chefren makes a very good point regarding abolition of age limits in Spain and the problem it creates now: the competition between Mateu and Del Cerro. And I agree, it is not good for them nor for CTA.

    1. Spanish Ref Com has to be satisfied with the performance of the 4 referees and VARs appointed for the SF playoffs; all 4 arose a very good result in terms of management and technical decisions and showed a clear potential for promotion, taking into account their respective ages and levels of experience. Now, we expect similar results for the finals.

    ReplyDelete
  17. No way either Turpin, Marciniak or Makkelie takes the UCL final this year. First because both are still quite inexperienced and I believe they may have to do the UEL final first before being trusted with the UCL final. Secondly they all have great opportunities in future as they come from leagues where the clubs don't often get to the final. I also strongly dont believe Orsato will be appointed. I don't think he is trusted that much by the committee, and has not handled may big games in advanced stages of the UCL.
So I feel it could be between the old guns, Çakir, Kuipers and Brych. Antonio Miguel Mateu Lahoz is also a big possibility for the UCL final

    2. Intensity, intent... Only argument for VC is that Lewa was hit in the face, or not?

      Delete
    3. OK, then: Arguments for YC?

If it's not intentional, I have some trouble in justifying the YC, because it would be an unlucky collision - nothing really reckless there.

If it was intentional, the force was not neglectable IMO, and therefore would be VC, because the head was hit.

However I see, that somehow the Yellow Card is the most expected and most clever choice. But the LotG justification appears doubtful to me.

      Delete
    4. Fortunately Mateu Lahoz doesn’t officiate with the nose in the book... and that’s why he’s an excellent referee.

      Delete
    5. If you go by lotg, there is no reason to punish it harder, because the head was hit. That's "only" common sense. But I understand your position

      Delete
    6. I was referring to
"In addition, a player who, when not challenging for the ball, deliberately strikes an opponent or any other person on the head or face with the hand or arm, is guilty of violent conduct unless the force used was negligible"
      (so it's "negligible", not "neglectable"...)
Therefore it makes a difference, when the head is hit - no excessive force or brutality is required.

But to be clear: I don't see a real problem here - but it would be boring to not discuss anything ;)

      Delete
    7. For sure. That's one reason, I love this blog!

      Delete
    8. As addition:
I would say, you are wrong. Because negligible means that there has to be some kind of excessive force. For example Ribery's tweak in Bundesliga will clearly fall under negligible (I would still send him off for insulting his opponent). In this case, I wouldn't see a VC as wrong, but the force was tolerable. This could result in a YC.
You could argue as well it was no full intend, but recklessness/contingent intend and therefore a reckless challenge

      Delete
  26. Very quick checks for offside in both goals. You can clearly notice that VAR is a very expert one.

  28. Excellent first half by Mateu Lahoz. Both YCs were not easy as the fouls occurred in his back or at least not right in front of him. Good teamwork. Some close offside calls for both ARs especially before 1–0. Most of them were correct, however I think AR2 missed an offside position in 41' leading to a corner for Munich. So, some very good calls and some missed/wrong calls by the ARs.
Overall, good performance by the Spaniards.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Correct yellow card 86', if you ask me. You could argue SFP given the point and mode of contact, but I think yellow is the better decision. It wasn't a direct hit, it was on a followthrough of a kick, and Muller was moving into his space as opposed to the other way around.

    1. Also the bent knee definitely reduces the force.

      Delete
  34. Very interesting now: you could hear the conversation between Mateu and Pau (AR1). Pau said that the contact was with the arm, and Mateu replied that it was low. Pau said he would show the card but Mateu said, literally "I won't show it, I won't show it.".

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. But I think Pau was right there, that was a clear YC....

      Delete
    2. I agree, to me it was a YC too. However, I think that for Mateu, it was just a collision and not the arm being used as a tool, so maybe that is the reason he didn't show it. Or just match control.

    2. @Anonynous one year ago he had the chance as well, but it was Skomina. Mateu has has many chances, we must assume that committee doesn't think that he is at level for a final, it is not a matter of nationality. However, he will continue, as age limits are about to be abolished in Spain, but for sure getting a final will become more and more difficult for him. This season it was the best condition.

  37. Excellent Mateu tonight, always under control. Well done

    ReplyDelete
  38. Well, IMO good performance in a very easy match. Only doubt that situation that for Chefren is a clear RC. I have doubts and I think both decisions are supportable, given intensity and context (it was not an unfair challenge, but a collision afterwards with the inertia of the leg).

The chance missed by Ekambi in the first half is a pity, it would have provided a more interesting match than in the end it was. Lyon did many things right, but when you lack precision on goal… then there is no chance for you.

  39. Excellent performance by Mateu Lahoz – actually one of his best performances I saw from him. I'm not a big fan of his style, it's often too hectic for me. Today he was very calm and relaxed but alert at the same time. Congratulations.
So we are going to see FCB-PSG on Sunday, Orsato would be the expected choice. However, I have my doubts whether this match is the right one for him. I expect a very passionate game with a lot of complaining and players trying to get free-kicks easily – there are many players who could 'annoy' you (e.g. Neymar, Müller). I have in mind that Orsato struggles with these kind of games. Hopefully I'm wrong.

Until a few time ago I was still convinced that "Cakir was Cakir" but now... to be honest... too many mistakes, missed motivations, I think it is impossible to see him, or, in that case, Orsato is at least a similar choice.
I praised and defended the Turkish when he was excellent for years and years, last but not least the situation with Slovenia game, you know that, but now... he is not that safe pair of hands anymore I would say.

    4. Lets be real. The only 3 that besed on performance and teams involved would really deserve a CL final and havent had it are Makkelie, Mateu and maybe Taylor. Orsato would just get it because hes italian... really a shame to better refs in the past who didnt get it in that case (De Bleekere, Rocchi)

    5. Anonymous, one question: do you remember any really bad performance of Orsato? Me not! His form is very stable. Although he doesn't communicate with players much, he handles the games really well, without an unnecessary fuss. More respect, please.

    7. I didnt say he was really bad but i didnt see any excellent performances in Europe this year either (just my opinion) and imo the CL final should go to the best ref in Europe of the year (who hasnt had it yet). To me Orsato just was not the best in Europe this year. The 3 I mentioned above were better this year in Europe IMO. Turpin too but he cant have it due to PSG being there. What orsato does nationally should not be the reason to give him the biggest European match. Just my opinion... I just see a "good" ref who will get a CL final only because he is Italian. I can be wrong, but thats my opinion.

  44. Chefren. I am surprised you already written off Çakir as no more being a safe hand. We are talking about a top class and experienced referee here who has shown how good he is over the years. That he had one or two bad gamea does not take away his many top performances he has delivered. And there is no doubt that along with Brych and Kuipers, he is a very safe pair of hand un any game and any stage.
Everyone will be shocked if Orsato is given thw UCL final this year.

Having said that, I think Cakir will be appointed for the final. Second choice would be Mateu Lahoz.

  45. I believe that many people in this forum don’t know Orsato enough. He is almost 45 years, been refereeing since he was 16, made his debut in Serie A in 2005 and since then he’s been officiating dozens of big matches, many Italian Cup finals and the most difficult matches in Serie A in the last ten years. At an international level, his career was covered indeed by Rizzoli and then Rocchi, but well, he’s been in Champions league for many years and was never controversial. He is a very solid referee, with a strong authoritarian style that all the players respect because of his extraordinary refereeing abilities. He made a superb performance in Real Madrid-Man City this year (IMO the best performance with Atl-Liv by Makkelie), giving a red card to Ramos losing 3-1 at the Bernabeu (never happened for years) without even a single protest. Even though Rocchi had more visibility than him, many people are convinced that Orsato is better referee overall. Trust me, if you’ll see him, he’s pure masterclass and experience.

  47. I'm one of those who are in love with italian football (for amlost 30 years). In last 15 years I was able to watch live dozen of games from Serie A (I watch live 6-7 games per week from Serie A and Premier League).
What i want to say is the face that Orsato is a very good referee, better than many others from Elite. He is much better than Mateu Lahoz, Taylor, Marciniak, Turpin. Probably he was better than Rocchi. For sure is much better than actual version of Cakir (or even Skomina). Maybe only Kuipers and Brych are better than him at this moment. That's my opinion based on few thousands games (from Serie A, Premier League, La Liga, Bundesliga, Champions League or Europa League) watched during last 15 years.

    ReplyDelete
  48. I saw Orsato for the first time in San Mames, Athletic-Trabzonspor, Europa League play off, many years ago. He was in the UEFA second category. I was impresed with his performance.
If he is the ref for the CL final this year, I will be very happy.
But I think Rosetti's choice will be Çakir, it is only an intuition.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Well, first I will comment about Lahoz last night. As always, leninet but fantastic. But, I dont think that he will recive the CL FINAL, either opinion is for Cakir. Not so good performances thorugh this year. I saw comments about that Cakir deserve the final becouse of great career. Much more Kuipers deserve the final if we look in that way. Only logical choice is if we see the different referee in final, it will be Orsato. But, if we see some final ref from last years, I prefer Skomina or Kuipers (instead of fact that he was in the semifinal).
