In order to give you more time to send predictions, we have decided to split some KO stage rounds, this is the first part of Round of 16, with games to be played on 3 and 4 December.
Appointments are expected on 1 December, or later. When published, the predictions will be officially closed. The predictions sent after that (official time will be checked) will not be accepted.
Points will be assigned according to the following pattern:
10 points for having guessed the exact referee of a match
5 points if a guessed referee for a game will be appointed as fourth official
3 points if the appointed referee is from the same confederation as the guessed referee
2 points if the guessed referee is in charge of the paired match for the next round*
1 point if a referee is appointed for the same stage

Interesting that Valenzuela didn't get a second game after a clash like England - USA. Quite particular management by committee, I also thought about a possible problem regarding VAR in case of new appointment for him, indeed we know that Soto was out after that game for which he had been already appointed "during" Belgium - Canada... but all speculations of course. Really difficult to understand the choices that Collina will make, but very clear that a game like ENG - SEN seems already perfect stuff for Barton.
I would designate Barton in FRA-POL because it seems to me that the two teams are going to dedicate themselves to playing, to playing fair and I think that, with Barton's style, would border on perfection.
DeleteCan't see Oliver doing Argentina - another fixture after two impressive performances surely deserves a KO game.

Maybe in the future predictions for MD3 should also be split in two because when we make our predictions we don't know what the situation on the table will be in at least 2 groups before final MD, and that is important factor

ReplyDeleteAnd just like that, Conger sunk Collina and the Referee Committee into a media nightmare. France is justifiably entitled to and by all means, should lodge an official complaint/appeal to FIFA. It's amazing that "TEN" referees weren't able to handle this situation properly.
Laws are fairly clear that VAR interventions are possible after the final whistler. The assertions made in that video by the presenter aren't 100% true. Brighton v Man Utd had an intervention post final whistle a while back
DeleteI think the issue is that the referee consulted VAR after the game had restarted after the "goal" which isn't allowed, although I could be wrong
DeleteConger clearly restarted the match and then ended the match. The keyword here is that Conger "RESTARTED" the match with a KICKOFF after the goal.
DeleteYes @arbiter, if the game had ended after the goal then he'd be within his rights to consult VAR but as he restarted it, it is against the LOTG to then consult VAR

Law 1.10 on VAR from IFAB states that if the game has been restarted, VAR cannot intervene anymore, so according to the rules of the game the referee should not have been allowed to check the goal and then rule it out.
ReplyDeleteIf only Collina would have taken the correct (brave) decision to remove/replace Al-Marri after the Faghani debacle We may not even be talking about this scandalous incident at the biggest most watched sporting event.
ReplyDeleteCollina has no one to blame but himself. It's hard to believe that not a single referee out of "TEN" took any action to prevent this from happening. What right is right and all 10 of these referees must take no further part in the tournament.

DeleteI know some people were surprised to see Elfath again, but I think with Morocco and the US going into the R16, he's really hard to use in the knockout stage even if he nails his 2nd match.
