  2. I’m confused. Isn’t Mr Cáceres from PAR? Fifa says ARG...? https://www.fifa.com/worldcup/matches/match/300331495/#match-info

    1. although he was born in Buenos Aires (ARG), it should say (PAR), he represents Paraguay.

    2. Cáceres was born in Argentina and moved to Paraguay when he was 7 years old so yes he represents Paraguay now... FIFA made similar error with Danny Makkelie too!

    3. Thanks for explaining.

  3. Cáceres in yellow kit... Both him and Cakir look very proper and neat... Marciniak full superstar in VOR :D

  4. OFF-TOPIC

Huge fallout from Cesar Ramos' shaky display in Brazil-Switzerland

The Brazilian football federation (CBF) has asked FIFA to release VAR audio and video recordings from Brazil-Switzerland!!

You can check the letter they sent to Infantino here: https://globoesporte.globo.com/futebol/selecao-brasileira/noticia/cbf-envia-carta-a-fifa-na-qual-questiona-procedimentos-adotados-pelo-var.ghtml

It is in Portuguese but Google Translate gives a helping hand.

    1. I fail to see how this is huge

    2. Yes... Just a routine enquiry on some potentially controversial situations... Nothing huge really!

    3. A potential answer would indeed be more interesting.
But the next appointments of Ramos and especially Valeri might also tell us the FIFA evaluation of the incident.

    5. I don't know how FIFA have assessed the incidents but one thing is for sure: if FIFA's assessment is positive, that means a push becomes a legal thing in football, which sets a very dangerous precedent. There's little doubt this will shake things up internally and spark uncertainty over VAR. Someone who can't fully realise how significant this is/might be should beef up interpretation skills and learn how to get perspective on things.

    6. Removing comments??? That is all out of despair? Someone who fails to understand how significant this is/might be... well, you know what I mean. Basic things are not basic for everyone.

      Delete
    7. That's indeed not significant. Mikael is right.
Brazilian federation is of course entitled to say everything, but the assessment of the referee must be always made by FIFA committee. So, if you try to present an official letter / appeal by a federation, as big scandal for a referee, you are simply wrong. You want just to underline negative things by using that way. It is not difficult to understand.
Brazilian federation a big one? All the 32 federations representing the teams at WC have the same importance. That's all. Try to be more objective and please be aware that this is a place dedicated to refereeing.
I deleted your comment because you insulted people, this should be also clear.

      Delete
    8. Chefren, it is your opinion. Nothing else. This is indeed absolutely significant for the reasons I just mentioned. Do you really believe this move by the Brazilian federation means the same as a potentially similar move by other less "heavy" federations? Then you're totally out of the loop. I don't have to underline anything negative. Everyone knows Ramos was a disaster. I just posted this because from now on it's obvious Collina/Busacca will think twice when appointing referees for Brazil. Not to mention its highly negative impact on the perception of VAR by the staff of other national teams. Maybe those who can't fully understand the significance of this move are lost in translation Google Translate is available. And of course, I assume this might be above some people's head.

  5. Foul by Kutepov, I think he gave advantage. Could have been yellow though, foul without the ball.

  6. These games are really boring, most of the matches at this world cup are for sure below expectations for such big tournament!

    1. Actually i think most of games were pretty interesting. But group A is an exception so far

    2. We have to understand different teams have different tactics and we need to appreciate the diversity... The quality of football isn't bad at all!

    3. The quality isn't bad, that's true. But it is everything but excitìng....

  7. Unbelievable how pleasant the atmosphere in the stadium and on the pitch is IMO, RUS player takes a shot, hits Cacares (a bad positioning), no one complains (pyschology, Eastern nations, etc etc) and nothing from the tribunes.
Absolutely no comparison to host matches such as Brazil - Chile 2014 or Germany - Argentina 2006.

    1. That seemed like a big criticism of Cacares, not my intention :-).
Slightly missing prevention, but still absolutely expected level so far IMO.

  10. Off-topic:

I’m not sure this sad news was already shared by any of the other readers - then I apologize - but this afternoon the Italian Football Association FIGC confirmed the passing away of former Italian international referee Sergio Gonella at the age of 85. Gonella handled the 1978 World Cup Final between Argentina and The Netherlands.
    May he rest in peace.

  11. No big trouble so far. But no clear line of foul detection and some little errors.

    ReplyDelete
  12. By the way... corners tend to be an invitation to Wrestling Masterships in Russia. Especially Caceres just ignores that. Sure, it happens from both sides all the time. But that does not make me happy anywhay.

    ReplyDelete
  13. Was there a push from Russian player before the goal? From first view only little and not enough. So should be ok?

    ReplyDelete
  14. VAR intervention, no need for an OFR. Penalty for holding.

  15. Also, keeper kicked ball away, shouldn't he be booked?

  16. Nice use of VAR to determine Russian foul (hold) continued into PA. Quick and efficient. Referee handled it calmly. Only thing I did not like was gestures for VAR -- referee knew immediately to get this one double-checked.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Correct no foul at 76 with Russian player touching the defender on purpose. And right afterwards maybe missed penalty for holding?

  18. In case of win by Uruguay tomorrow, on MD3 we will have Saudi Arabia - Egypt, both teams without any chance to qualify. It will be very interesting to see the appointment. To my personal view, for Conger it would be too humiliating. I would prefer a name originally planned as fourth official... maybe even one from CONCACAF (Pitti, Montero...). Let's see.

    1. I would say Hauata would deserve it after some tournaments without a chance.

    2. I would also like Hauata or Pitti.

      Delete
    3. Yes, I had the same idea. Would indeed be a chance to bring a fourth CONCACAF referee into the tournament.
URU-RUS would also not be that important, one of the CAF referees might get it.
But of course, Uruguay needs to win first...

      Delete
    4. URU-RUS would be very important to decide first place of the group and avoid (possibley) face Spain in Round of 16.

      Delete
    5. Very likely also Panama-Tunisia

      Delete
    6. Gassama can be more than suitable name for Uruguay v Russia and also maybe Sikazwe!

      Delete
    7. Hm, but Spain or Portugal does not make such a big difference and furthermore it probably won't be clear at that time, who of the both Iberian teams will win the group.
PAN-TUN could then be Sato's consolation game, if he is ignored before - but I have to admit, there are several "if"s in this speculation.

      Delete
    8. If it's the case, I would really like Hauata. He deserves that.

      Delete
  19. He didn't impress me. Foul selection was random at best and he gave some offences with great delay.

Positioning was bad. Too close to play and intervened with it several times.

Thank god there was VAR and corrected the originally foul call.

    7.8 (8.2)

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. 7.8 for what? He himself immediately went up for a VAR check in the penalty incident... Was there something else too?

      Delete
    2. Also as a referee its hard to spot, its more on AR to give you info. You can only praise him for asking VAR to give him right info.

      Delete
    3. I think he should have also spot that himself. My feeling was he takes the less risky decision and just rely on VAR if it's wrong...but maybe my impression was wrong. Anyway in a relatively easy game he didn't convince me, especially about sort skills. I think one more group stage for him and nothing more.

      Delete
    4. 7.8 is for the corrected penalty.

      Delete
    5. Didn't he himself go up to consult VAR immediately??

  20. Very likely also Panama-Tunisia

  22. Destiny of VAR, if it's controversial, people hype it badly, if it creates the good of the game, the usual criticians are silent :)

Good intervention today, quick, for a situation where we need VAR for.

Three decent performances today, my ranking is Shukralla / Cacéres / Skomina, unfortunately the Slovenian had bad luck with his incorrect free kick decision. Otherwise, another good day for FIFA World Cup refereeing.

GET OUT OF FINANCIAL MESS WITH THE HELP OF drbenjaminfinance@gmail.com

I have been in financial mess for the past months, I’m a single mum with kids to look after. My name is REBECCA MICHAELSON, and am from Ridley Park, Pennsylvania. A couple of weeks ago My friend visited me and along our discussion she told me about DR BENJAMIN OWEN FINANCE of drbenjaminfinance@gmail.com that he can help me out of my financial situation, I never believed cause I have spend so much money on different loan lenders who did nothing other than running away with my money. She advised, I gave it a try because she and some of her colleagues were rescued too by this Godsent lender with loans to revive their dying businesses and paying off bills. so I mailed him and explain all about my financial situation and therefore took me through the loan process which was very brief and easy. After that my loan application worth $278,000.00USD was granted, all i did was to follow the processing and be cooperative and today I am a proud business owner sharing the testimony of God-sent Lender. You can as well reach him through the Company Email drbenjaminfinance@gmail.com

    THANK YOU VERY MUCH
