You can see, some big names still without games, while Cuhna is the first with his second match. A clear policy in appointing referees by committee, they are keeping some referees for very hot games in the last part of group stage. In addition, Cunha can be surely satisfied of what he has achieved so far. If you ask me, I was even in doubt that he would have handled games.
ReplyDeleteI was never in doubt that Cunha will be on the pitch... He is a very good CONMEBOL referee and both his matches are good!
DeleteIt is interesting to see that the only UEFA referees without appointment yet are whose national team present at world cup.
DeleteSimilar thing happened with Geiger last time.
DeleteCONMBEOL referees are used a lot so far. Let's see, whether they will also give Bascunan a game (BEL-TUN might be an option).
For Cunha, a third game is surely possible in case of a good performance on Wednesday with such an early second appointment.
Clement Turpin has got a game :D @Nathan
DeleteYe finally :D
Deletei was expecting a bit more challenging game but i hope he will do well and get an other game
I'm happy that I am finally getting some predictions right :D
DeleteLooks like Kazan is becoming a special city for Cunha :)
DeleteIn URU - KSA, it will be maybe possible (my prediction) to see Conger. Let's see. Otherwise, Gassama at his second game.
ReplyDeleteClement Turpin
DeleteIt could also be a match for Turpin to get into the tournament. There might be still some doubts about him, so an easy game to start could be a good idea.
DeleteI would prefer Conger in POR-MAR.
Chefren, who are in your opinion the big names without matches?
ReplyDeleteIrmatov, Geiger, Brych, Mazic.
DeleteGermany-Sweden and Argentina-Croatia for the big names no doubt about!
ReplyDeleteClément Turpin starts with a really soft assignment. So the news is that he is no reserve referee. UEFA very likely wont have reserve referees. Karasev will officiate one game as well.
ReplyDeleteI hope Karasev is only reserve!
DeleteHe'll get at the very least 1 middle assignment. After all, he is the "local: representative and FIFA has always shown that politics do indeed play a factor in how matches are assigned.
DeletePAN-TUN for Karasev...?
Delete@Andrasch: Could even be ENG-BEL if both win their second matches.
DeleteI think Irmatov will be on ARG-CRO. Big match especially because ARG lost points in first game.
ReplyDeleteMy idea is to see Irmatov in the very hot game ARG - CRO, but according to Soham, that's not possible...
ReplyDeleteGuess he will be in Germany-Sweden.
Delete@Soham: IIRC you said that Argentina doesn't accept Irmatov as referee. Do you know the reason for that?
DeleteIrmatov in that game was also my prediction, my second guesd would be Geiger.
I am expacting Pitana again in MD2 in GER-SWE
DeleteWhy is Irmatov not possible in ARG-CRO, @Soham?
*guess
DeleteThey vetoed Irmatov 3 times in WC 2014... They sighted some bad omen and all that from their 4–0 defeat to Germany in 2010 WC where Irmatov was referee!
DeleteOf course not impossible that this year Argentina will change their mind! So Irmatov may be possible who knows!
DeleteWhat happened to Argentina with Irmatov?? Was it too serious?? I can't quite remember. In any case, the former president of the Argentinian federation who vetoed Irmatov in Brazil died after the 2014 World Cup. So maybe it was something personal and the bad blood between the two sides has already vanished.
DeleteIrmatov would be an excellent choice for the blockbuster clash Argentina-Croatia. An alternative name has to be Alireza Faghani.
Germany-Sweden: Mazic or Skomina.
Brazil-Costa Rica: Irmatov (if not available for Argentina) or Kuipers.
Brazil v Costa Rica can suit Mateu Lahoz!
DeleteI would place Mateu in Japan-Senegal.
DeleteMark Geiger (USA)Portugal - Morocco
ReplyDeleteWow, FIFA considers really important this game.
DeleteGuess that :D
DeleteGood appointment for Geiger
IMO Serbia-Switzerland is decider, so i would like to see Çakir/Irmatov/Kuipers for this match
DeleteI would go for Lahoz in that group, but not sure if BRA-CRC or SRB-SUI
DeleteUnderwhelming appointment for Geiger... Could easily have been swapped with Ramos! I'm disappointed for Geiger but happy that my forced prediction got correct!
Delete@Soham: On the other hand, Portugal - Morocco will be played at Luzhniki, the largest World Cup stadium which will also host the finalists.
DeleteSize of stadium is irrelevant to level of teams involved.
DeleteUnderwhelming appointment? The European champions vs one of the best (if not the best) African national teams? With all to play for, it's a very good appointment for Geiger and I expect it to be challenging.
DeleteThe fact is on paper it's a not so great game... In matchday 1 it would be still close but now it's quite certain on paper that Morocco is going home... I will always say Geiger was more suitable for Brazil v Switzerland and Cesar Ramos for this!
DeleteCAF teams up to this point haven't been all that impressive. As they are 0-3 so far.
DeleteGeiger would absolutely suit Brazil-Serbia but I also think Portugal-Morocco will be challenging enough, so it ends up being a good choice. Ramos would be better at home to reflect on his lackluster performance.
DeleteSerbia-Switzerland may well go to Brych.
DeleteBrazil-Switzerland*

DeleteI see a problem: Mazic could be a very suited appointment for Germany-Sweden but Serbia could face any of them in next round; likewise, Brych could also be appointed for Switzerland-Serbia, but we have the same problem!
ReplyDeleteI expect Mateu Lahoz in one of those matches almost 100% sure.
Wilmar Roldan is refereeing Tunisia v England and they might face Colombia in R16 so surely those aren't any problem for referees at the highest level!
DeleteMateu Lahoz is the prime candidate for Brazil v Costa Rica in my eyes!
We had the same situation eight years ago when Wolfgang Stark handled SVN - ENG in group C on MD3 whereas the German national team played in group D (and encountered England in the Round of 16).
DeleteI would tend to avoid that kind of situations that could led to difficult situations, even more having such a great referees in this WC
DeleteI also dislike such situations, even on MD1 and MD2.
DeleteJust as we all speak about this Cunha is announced for Iran v Spain... Both countries may go on to face Uruguay in R16 if they qualify... But as I said it is really minor thing and nothing important for consideration at all!
DeleteMorocco got Cakir in the first game and now Geiger...
ReplyDeleteOne team very lucky in World Cup :D
DeleteIf they loose again, they will be very lucky for sure :-)
DeleteI believe FIFA should take Brych for Argentina-Croatia.
ReplyDeleteSerbia-Switzerland can go to Kuipers.
And for Germany-Sweden, I see Nestor Pitana or Milorad Mazic, clearly.
Irmatov I think we will see in a game of not so high medial importance for the start, like Poland-Colombia.
Irmatov I'm expecting in France v Peru... Cakir can also be a good name for Serbia v Switzerland
DeleteOT :
ReplyDeleteFifa to hold a media briefing on video assistant referees (VAR) once the group stage of the #worldcup is complete.
They say they’re “extremely satisfied” so far with level of refereeing and VAR successfully implemented.
Kuipers will officiate BRA - CRC.
ReplyDeleteThis time very quick release by FIFA.
A big name for Brazil was expected after all the complains and fuss regarding Ramos!
DeleteHELLO VIEWERS
ReplyDeleteGET OUT OF FINANCIAL MESS WITH THE HELP OF drbenjaminfinance@gmail.com
I have been in financial mess for the past months, I’m a single mum with kids to look after. My name is REBECCA MICHAELSON, and am from Ridley Park, Pennsylvania. A couple of weeks ago My friend visited me and along our discussion she told me about DR BENJAMIN OWEN FINANCE of drbenjaminfinance@gmail.com that he can help me out of my financial situation, I never believed cause I have spend so much money on different loan lenders who did nothing other than running away with my money. She advised, I gave it a try because she and some of her colleagues were rescued too by this Godsent lender with loans to revive their dying businesses and paying off bills. so I mailed him and explain all about my financial situation and therefore took me through the loan process which was very brief and easy. After that my loan application worth $278,000.00USD was granted, all i did was to follow the processing and be cooperative and today I am a proud business owner sharing the testimony of God-sent Lender. You can as well reach him through the Company Email drbenjaminfinance@gmail.com
