  1. Let's try with a picture from 2010. Maybe Irmatov will be motivated in showing a better performance... :)

    2. Unfortunately the 2018 picture of Irmatov is him making continuous "calm down" gestures and a look of frustrated desperation on his face.

  2. Things can only get better for him after his first appearance... I wish him all the best! He's a great referee!

  3. Felix Zwayer as the main VAR. Does that mean that he told Brych to do OFR on that possible PK call?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. In the Serbian Facebook and Twitter there is circulation of hearsay that Zwayer indeed asked for OFR, but Brych declined.

      Delete
    2. Same goes for Marciniak in Germany - Sweden

      Delete
    3. I don't think so. Why should Brych not follow if Zwayer told him ?

I think in FIFA's opinion that descision wasn't completely wrong, so they back Brych.
Maybe Brych isn't a frontrunner for final anymore because of rumors about him but I still expect him in top clashes.

      Delete
    4. That hearsay has come from a fake twitter account (as we saw previously) named @VAROfficial1 that has since been suspended.

      Delete
    5. Referees overruling VAR isn't impossible as we saw with Roldan today... But to totally reject the suggestion of an OFR seems unlikely!

      Delete
    6. @Alex Fletcher, thanks for clarification. I don't believe in hearsazs anyway.

      Delete
    7. Have any oof you taken in to consideration, the slight posibility of referee's declining or not wanting the VAR input? Having to accept VAR input more than likely means that they've made an error. And doing an OFR is just going to make that much more clear to the world. So many will just stick to the non VAR mindset of in that split second that's how I judged the incident. I've seen the look of frustration and or uncertainty on the faces of the referee's who have had to make the trot the field to the monitor. And of course as it is to be expected, the referee group is very tight knit and will always cover for each other.

      Delete
    8. Which referees appeared frustrated to you while going to make the OFR?

      Delete
    9. Not so much frustrated (poor choice of word) more of a "disappointed" look.

  4. Piqué not even booked? Irmatov should go home immediately, that's enough.

    1. Wow Chefren! For you to take this type of view and attitude towards a referee is very rare. But it just goes to show how truly sub par Irmatov has been as continues to be.

      Delete
    2. Very dangerous play. He played the ball first, therefore more YC, but he was going with both legs...

      Delete
    3. I really don't understand what happened to him, and I'm really disappointed. Piqué made this challenge by loading both legs, it was an orange card. If you don't book, you do a serious mistake, in addition, you put in danger the safety of the player. WC should be now over for the Uzbek. He was a great referee in 2010, but now... sorry.

      Delete
    4. Something like the Viktor Kassai situation??

      Delete
    5. After watching Diedhiou before, I think I might watch Portugal. There's going to be blood. That tackle was reckless and dangerous. Luckily the guy jumped mostly out of the way. VAR should have made a call.

      Delete
    6. Clear red, winning the ball is irrelevant, tackling two footed with studs up is always a red card.

      Delete
    7. Anyone have a clip of this? I missed it when I was watching...

      Delete
  5. Good to Irmatov up to his 2018 antics. This game is gonna be great! Sarcasm of course. Hard to to believe that a referee is unable to learn from past mistakes.

    ReplyDelete
  6. Wow, no advantage here, just stop the play and book the player...

    ReplyDelete
  7. 21‘ YC for nothing... At least I could not detect anything illegal.

    ReplyDelete
  8. YC to Morocco's player now, very soft if not wrong looking at the previous challenge by Piqué. Irmatov still lost.

    ReplyDelete
  9. Soft yellow there. Considering the Spain tackle.

    ReplyDelete
  10. Oh, you have to take shoes off to get yellow...

    ReplyDelete
  11. Moroccan players full focus is on the ball. At no moment does he intentionally try to stamp on Ramos' foot.

    ReplyDelete
  12. Wow, did you see this replay? In my opinion, a SFP was missed by both VAR and the referee. Iniesta was fouled. Now many YCs against Morocco.

    ReplyDelete
  13. He talks way too much. But his words have little to no effect on the payers.

    ReplyDelete

    1. Personality is very strong so naturally that doesn't work... Incidentally in AFC matches he is great manager while carding more often!

      Delete
    2. I think that he's peaked in his international referee career and he's now on the downside. Getting assignments based more on past glories and not current form.

      Delete
  14. Morocco will finish with 10 players or less.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Irmatov would have been good/expected level having given the first YC to Pique...

    ReplyDelete
  16. He is losing some control with Moroccan players by not giving yellow on pique...

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. No consistency. Can't blame the Moroccan's for feeling this way.

      Delete
  17. YC to himself for pushing the Moroccan player.

    ReplyDelete
  18. It be interesting to keep count on how many times he uses the "calm down" hand gestures in a match.

He's seems to be so lost on the field at this time that he is now tackling players.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Wow. Clear RC missed for Irmatov, bad positioning leading to pushing Iranian player. :-)

    ReplyDelete
  20. Sorry, but Morocco should already be with 9 men.

    ReplyDelete
  21. What about the tackle at 45'+ 1 ? player was booked already

    ReplyDelete
  22. Irmatov has been plain poor... Sorry but he should be going home after the group stage!

    ReplyDelete
  23. The pitch has confirmed that Irmatov doesn't deserve a KO stage game. But... the problem is that committee needs more options for important UEFA / CONMEBOL clashes in KO stage. Irmatov has put himself in trouble by deliberately not issuing cards! I must say I'm really disappointed. In case he will get even a single KO game, it will be only for reasons of opportunity by committee!

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I can imagine CONMEBOL nations like Brazil, Argentina now asking for UEFA referees!

      Delete
    2. Well if Irmatov was that bad (i am not watching this match) then i guess they wont keep him just for that reason. they have Faghani and Geiger for those matches

      Delete
    3. What about CAF referee's? Any CAF referee's that you would whole hardheartedly without a doubt trust with these type of matches?

      Delete
    4. Diedhiou had one today and did well... Gassama is worth trying too!

      Delete
    5. I would be happy with Gassama for a QF and Cesar Ramos for R16, for example. And as FIFA broke confederation neutrality for the last final, I wouldn’t be surprised if they do it again in this KO stage. Definitely better than Irmatov in this form

      Delete
    6. I don't think there's any need for Irmatov just because he's from Asia... there's Geiger and Faghani who are both very trusted, and you also have Gassama, Shukralla, maybe Sikazwe, maybe Diedhiou, and maybe even a Conger or Ramos if really necessary. But I don't think the confederation will be such a big deal for them; Rizzoli did Argentina - Belgium in the QF last time, and Argentina - Germany in the final as well. Pedro Proenca did Netherlands - Mexico. Cakir did Netherlands - Argentina. Suffice it to say that history shows that confederation neutrality is not the end-all-be-all in the knockout stage. UEFA or CONMEBOL referees should be used if needed in those games.

    4. Thank you so much.
      1) YC missed, no SFP because of the hitting point
      2) 0:45 - SFP, missed RC - studs up and high force. Irmatov is very lucky that Iniesta did not suffer an injury. Very dangerous!

      Delete
    5. Saw that now. Absolutely unbelievable.

      Delete
    6. In occurred just in front of Irmatov! And Zwayer did nothing here! It is a clear RC.

      Delete
    7. The first one is yellow imo. But the fact that Irmatov has a clear view looking right at it is unforgivable that he does nothing. I agree that the second one is serious foul play. VAR should have reviewed (again with these two). The second one is very similar to a red car that was given and FIFA said was correct in the 2014 world cup. I will see if I can find it.

      Delete
  25. Stat : Irmatov is the first referee to reach 10 YCs in this World Cup!

    ReplyDelete
  26. That's got to be a handball on Pique. Arm is away from the body, ball makes direct contact on Pique's arm.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Amazing how no-one else mentioned this. It was a clear handball, and Irmatov was standing right in front of it. Awful non call. Terrible performance.

    2. People on this blog only see what they want to see. And only comment when it furthers their agenda for or against certain referee's.

      Delete
  27. Irmatov has lost the game at the end. Morocco wanted to leave the pitch as protest.

    ReplyDelete
  28. I have slight doubts about the VAR offside, the shot which was presented with the blue line was biased towards Aspas. He's leaning forward, while the Moroccan player leans backwards and the camera is high up and at about goal line level. It could well be that his upper body was actually closer to the goal line that the Moroccan players foot

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. In doubt favour the attacking team...

      Delete
    2. There was a better camera angle available, you just couldn't see the ball in that one (which shouldn't be a problem given how many monitors there are in the VAR room)

  29. I read that AR considered the goal offside, but VAR corrected him. Is that true? However, I think that German VAR and Italian VAR are not consistent. @Andrasch Neunert, what do you think?

    ReplyDelete
  30. Saw the Piqué foul. No call at all is shocking. At least YC, but he hits him with the studs. Red definitely possible.

    1. Pique should have got a YC at the very least for this, and perhaps for the handball as well, later, which wasn’t called.

Maybe there was something important left out. Of course i am saying about crucial decisions, i cant talk about management based only on what i saw

  32. What about second ESP goal (2-2)? Irmatov showed the corner for other direction, but the ball has been played from oposite corner area and ESP gave the advantage which finished with goal (after VAR rewiev). For my opinion its scandalous decision to alow play the ball from incorrect corner area.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Thats right! Irmatov was even looking at opposite direction when the corner was played. I don't know the rule about that.

      Delete
    2. Wooooooow that is JUST INCREDIBLE MISTAKE!!! I played forward the whole match on my TV. In Live, we couldn't see that, but this situation was replayed around 94.45. Indeed, Irmatov point to corner in other direction. He totally lost his concentration and he didn't see when Spain started the attack from corner. He looked in the direction of corner where he point, and the ball was already in. He missed all of that. He was surprised to see that the ball is in game. I have never seen such thing before. Such a crucial mistake.

    2. Agree. If a one says something positive about referee etc. should it mean blind sympathy? He did ok job in this tough game. I like the fact that he doesnt need video replays keeping the football intact.

    4. He needed video replays. Unfortunately the VAR either didn't intervene or Irmatov himself didn't want video replays!

      Delete
  34. Ok, watched the entire game. There was a point where I felt like it could boil over. Irmatov's mistake was he completely ignored the challenge made by Piqué and gave a YC for Morocco for a foul that wasn't yellow-worthy - at least based on that line.

Overall, I felt like his card selection was not that understandable, but it seems to be this way during this WC.

Excellent use of the VAR to determine a tight offside position. But - and I can't believe I'm saying that - I do believe it should have been a corner kick from the left flag, not the right one.

So, acceptable with major points for improvement would be my conclusion.

    3. It's incredible that Irmatov authorize the play to continue after pointed to the left corner. Law 17 "The ball must be placed in the corner area nearest to the point where the ball passed over the goal line".
He was not even looking at the play and i guess some Moroccans players expect the corner to be played from the left corner

      Delete
    4. Soham, you are mistaken.

      Delete
    5. It was difficult to tell which corner the ball was closer to when it went out, from the broadcast angle. Irmatov was near the bottom corner of the penalty area so he probably couldn't even tell. It's possible that Spain took the corner kick from the correct position and it was just Irmatov who signalled wrong.

      Delete
    6. @prumecad Happy to be corrected if wrong. But what's the protocol in case of a potential mistake like that? I mean isn't that a technical mistake? An error in applying the law?

      Delete
    7. Soham, I am reading your comments from previous topics as well. They do make sense and I mostly agree with them. I am sure that you know FIFA designs certain rules and procedures every year and brief the refree to follow it, sometimes the procedures and briefings before the games and as a result doesnt make sense for us all, but they do for those the very regulations.

      Delete
    8. @Soham I think it's poor management from Irmatov but not a technical error. As long as he gives his consent it is fine (by the laws of the game), as the referee is allowed some leniency when it comes to the exact spot of where to continue the game, especially when it is in the interest of the game to continue quickly. There is a bitter taste to his decision and I see why Morocco don't like it, but for FIFA to replay a game at a WC it would need an error that is in no possible interpretation supportable by the laws of the game, which I really don't think is the case here

      Delete
    9. Thanks for the detailed explanation. Was really curious to know about it.

      Delete
    10. Anyway, i don't like the way it has been done. When the referee take a decision, the players should follow it, i don't like the idea that they force him to change his mind.

      Delete
    11. I'm not sure if you remember, but Irmatov actually allowed a goal after already whistling a penalty at the 2013 Confed Cup. This is a much much clearer technical error and FIFA didn't correct the outcome of the game in any way. I'm not sure anymore how that goal affected things in the tournament back then, but in this case it doesn't change who progresses to R16, which is important to note

      Delete
    12. In that case the error happened against Brazil and then thankfully Brazil won the game so replay wasn't necessary... Otherwise it would be a definite replay!

      Delete
    13. "It's possible that Spain took the corner kick from the correct position and it was just Irmatov who signalled wrong."

The correct position is where the ref signals it to be.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Mark Halsey... To be honest I disagree with a lot of his analyses... He said Cáceres lost control in his game but IMO Cáceres never lost control of the game, wasn't even close to that! He even says Irmatov had a good match!

      Delete
    2. I too more often than not disagree with him, although sometimes he makes good points. Apologies to him for wrong name

      Delete
  36. Sorry prumecad but if you pointed left corner, ball had to be positionned on the same way. And Irmatov was poor here in terms of concentration and authority because he was clear that he didn’t see the whole action on the other side and had to whistle and come back to the other cornerkick place. Weird here.

    ReplyDelete
  37. It was acceptable and OK job of Irmatov in this tough game. Lets see how it goes now for him.

    ReplyDelete
  38. In my view his performances were far below expectation 2 times and there is no reason to keep him in the tournament.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Horrible officiating blunder that he allowed ball to be played from corner opposite to where he has pointed. He thought he would not be exposed when the flag came up, when var got involved he was screwed. By observing the body language of both teams it is clear that Morocco was upset over how the corner kick was allowed, not that the offside decision was reversed. TV production was late to the goal and they protected themselves by forcing the replay of the ref's post corner kick brain freeze into the final seconds of the feed. This is the equivalent of the infamous NFL game where the overtime coin flip was botched.
