  1. Great start for kuipers. No ball on the podest while they enter the field :-D

  2. Looks sad when the stadiums are not sold out at a world cup...

    1. We shouldn`t forget that it is working time in Russia:)

    2. Sure it's working time but they also said the ticket prices are outrageous. For example, Germany vs Mexico: 1350 dollars because it's ''almost sold out'' according to websites.

      Delete
    3. But unlike this game. Mexico v Germany will be a full stadium. Mexican fans travel very well and may be the majority in the stadium.

Isn't Danny from the Netherlands :-)?

    1. Born in Willemstad, Curacao. But he should be reported as Dutch...

    2. He was reported as NED here (since that's his country through which he is certified/etc)... though the broadcast announcement was "Roy Makaay" instead. Whoops. :)

  4. Some here maybe do not want to here that. But Kuipers is the complete oposite of Pitana yesterday. Fovused but relaxed and a natural walking. no hypertension. And he allows contact. Great start so far.

  5. Missed YC for diving in 18‘. Play on is not acceptable in situations like this one.

    1. I think it's a good decision to not give a yellow card, he has seen the dive and warned him. I think this decision is better to manage the game.

      Delete
    2. Clear yellow card for simulation. Bad to only give a verbal warning. Second game of the 2018 world cup and he clearly saw te dive. What kind of message does he send by not giving a yellow? A bad message...

      Delete
    3. Yannick, although I get your point, I think - especially if FIFA issues statements before the tournament that simulation will be cautioned - that it should've been a caution.

      Delete
    4. How earlier you start giving yellow cards, the more you have to give. I think you should aim to give as less cards as possible, what Kuipers is doing with the verbal warning.

      Delete
    5. @Johannes Busacca clearly said while discussing about the simulation part that referees may choose to "manage" such situations of simulation and he has no problems with that... Exactly that happened!

      Delete
    6. The earlier in the tournament the referee's punish diving by booking players. The sooner they get the message that it will not be accepted and that they'll be cautioned.

But we all know that everything the Ref Comm asks the referee's to "focus" on is just for show. Every World Cup is the same. The Ref Comm blows a lot of hot air is regards to supposed aspects that the referee's will be focused on.

    7. Clear YC is YC in 1st or 95th minute. If you have to give 10 YC, you should give it. Of course, you can have tactical approach for some borderline fouls, but for simulation I don't think so.

      Delete
    8. @Soham: Didn't know that! Thanks for the information. Anyways - just my personal opinion - why defend someone who is trying to fool you?

      Delete
    9. Yannick your statement is false ''How earlier you start giving yellow cards, the more you have to give''

      Doesn't work like that.

      Delete
    10. @Victor it's what happens in my matches. If my first YC is an early one, it usually never stops with that one. I don't say it works like that every match, but it's what I see in most matches.

      Delete
    11. @Yannick Anyone with the knowledge of how modern day football and refereeing works will know what you mean to say and I 100% agree with you... One important aspect is to use common sense and get rid of rigidity with the LOTG and the referees who show that flexibility are the most successful these days... Howard Webb explained this concept excellently in some show and I would really suggest you to watch that and you will see your thoughts are absolutely the same Webb endorses... Listening to Howard Webb anyday is a more appealing option than armchair experts shouting "LOTG! LOTG!" in order to prove their own points... From what I perceive about your refereeing style, it's very similar to mine! :D Best wishes :)

      Delete
    12. Are we talking about the Howard Webb that allowed De Jong to stay on the pitch after planting his cleats into Xabi Alonso's chest? A very "modern" caution instead of correct "old school" send off.

      Delete
    13. He "didn't see it" so didn't give the red card... Not that he saw that and decided it's a YC

      Delete
    14. A logical and expected response to missing something so grossly dirty. What else could he say?

      Delete
    15. He was unsighted. Period.

      Delete
  6. Missed YC for simulation. Mandatory, IMO.

    ReplyDelete
  7. 18' Missed YC for me. Blatant effort to deceive the referee.

  8. On a side note, Kuipers is wearing black socks, although Egypt also wears the same colour. So there seems to be a "no colourful referee socks" at the tournament.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I like this dressing code more than the colourful one, TBH.

      Delete
    2. As far as I remember, there were no colourful socks at any FIFA tournament. UEFA likes colourful socks, we all know that...

      Delete
    3. I loved the bright red socks that Marciniak once wore in Rotterdam in UCL last year :D

      Delete
    4. Colored socks are for clowns. Referee's should wear black socks and shorts. That's the standard.

      Delete
    5. Ok Sheriff... My socks and shorts are all black :D

      Delete
    6. So, you are not a clwon, Soham.

  9. 18' for me good and correct to only warn player to not simulate.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Absolutely agreed... Next time it happens he can punish!

      Delete
    2. But if another player simulates he should get a yellow card? That's not good. Same situation, different outcome. That's not consistency.

      Delete
    3. That's how it works... Howard Webb explained it the best in some show!

      Delete
    4. After the stern warning, I don't think anyone is going to be silly enough to try again!

  11. Boring game, easy to handle for Kuipers. Although I understand why Kuipers didn‘t issue a YC for the dive in 18‘, clear simulations must be punished accordingly.

    1. It's an evenly matched game till now... Better than Russia v Saudi Arabia surely!

    2. Tactically might be. As a football fan - for me it is boooring match this 55 minutes.

      Delete
    3. The match is reminiscent to this season's UEL Final. Boring.

      Delete
    4. Yes you're right... But still was some contest although a very boring brand of football there!

      Delete
  12. Egyptians are throwing themselves to the floor a lot even though it's South Americans that have the reputation for diving.

    ReplyDelete
  13. How can people agree with non-YC for blatant simulation? You don’t give a warning for this, it’s a 100% yellow card!! What else, ignore a punch in the 10th minute of a match as it’s early and first offence?!

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. My guess is that they are Kuipers fans. Had this been a referee from another continent that people haven't seen much of then it would have been all over this blog on how that yellow card was never given. That's my guess.

      Delete
    2. Yes victor, just like you had to write 5 times using different words in yesterday's thread that Pitana is a unique referee, Pitana has magnificent body language etc... Today's comment a bit rich coming from you :D

      Delete
    3. Especially considering how blatant and obvious the dive was. Most if not all of us hate and decry diving and divers. Yet very few of us have the **** to actually caution those cheats. Keep complaining, doing nothing and expecting change.

      Delete
    4. I like Pitana yes, because he actually follows the laws of the game

      Delete
    5. I never complain... Player makes a mistake, give a firm warning and move on... If the referee is of that level then players won't do it again and if they do it's a YC... And those who can't manage games will shell out YCs like confetti and spoil a spectacle!!

      Delete
  14. It would be nice to have a clip of this potential simulation, I missed it.

A mandatory YC for diving. Kuipers saw it but went for play-on and a strong verbal warning. A card had to be issued here.

    3. Clear simulation because no contact at all.
      Mandatory YC missed.
The explanation can be that Kuipers thought there had been a contact, but maybe not a singificant one.
Warning in such situations is a no-sense in my opinion: players must be booked, they can't be forgiven, because LotG are clear. However, we can't be sure Kuipers had the exact perception of what happened and, since it was outside the box, VAR was not allowed to intervene.
In my opinion a clear -0.1 in the final mark.

      Delete
    4. That would be one of my questions: let's assume that if this incident happened inside the penalty area and play would continue. Would VAR be allowed to intervene in that situation, would play-on inside the penalty area be a clear and obvious error, so that VAR could intervene?

      Delete
    5. That's a big question. Of course the clear and obvious error would be calling the foul. Play on is a supportable choice, but in any case, if the incident had happened inside the box, maybe Makkelie could have invited Kuipers to rewatch in order to issue YC for simulation... in that case, potential penalty (inside the box) this should be allowed.

      Delete
    6. I am pretty sure, that a VAR intervention is not possible in that case (even in the penalty area).

      Delete
    7. I would clearly still go for no caution at all for this situation and even more so when Busacca clearly said that referees who are capable can choose to manage situations of simulation and FIFA has no issues with that... It totally depends on interpretation and referee's discretion and I'm absolutely sure FIFA won't deduct anything at all for this!

      Delete
  15. I think only one man can say if it is a yellow card or not and we are all waiting for him :D:D

    ReplyDelete
  16. Everything ok so far, apart from the missed YC. Let’s hope for the last 20 mins to be less boring!

    3. At the moment there aren’t 32 teams that can play good matches. And we’re going to have 48 teams in 2026... I don’t want to think about it!

    4. 1-0, the Uruguayan way. Well at least we got a goal.

      Delete
  18. Hope I am wrong but replay is needed. Cavani’s free kick hit the post. A teammate took the rebound and shot at his own teammate who looked very offside. No call given. 10 seconds later Uruguay got a new free kick and then 1-0.

    1. Replay is needed but i think 2 Egypt players were infront of goalkeeper..

      Delete
    2. Even if it was offside, you cannot relate this incident with the goal, that was shot later.

      Delete
    3. There wasn't even a replay of the chance when Cavani hit the post. Very bad broadcast so far, missed many replays. For example, in volleyball were everything occurs much faster and where new point is going almost immediately after previous, you always have good replay, sometimes from 2 angles. Here you don't have even one "simple" replay.

      Delete
    4. Just have seen the replay in german TV and it was very close onside from IMO.

      Delete
    5. Ref” I can clearly relate to the goal. Just not to VAR interference.

    7. Thank you Tom. No offside, or at least NO FLAG is for sure supportable there in any case!

      Delete
    8. Looks like the trailing leg is offside but can’t tell 100%

  19. Oh no the first YC at 95:01.

    3. That's how boring the match was. Some of us lost track of the cautions. :D

    4. I haven't missed something exciting in the 2nd half then :D

  20. Correct YC on 95',clear stomp.

  21. I think a player was booked before when egyptian player was injured on the pitch

    ReplyDelete
  22. I can't stand this behavior from Suarez anymore. For this kind of throwing himself on the pitch, he deserved at least YC for shameless simulation.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. If a Yellow wasn't given for that gross and most blatant dive by the Egyptian player. There is "ZERO" probability that Suarez would ever see Yellow.

      Delete
    2. Referees must do what FIFA wants and not what Sheriff Castrilli expects or desires. As if showing yellow cards is an enteryaentert or something.

      Delete
  23. Calm and easy game for Kuipers, solid performance.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Another expected level performance, this time I would go for 8.3 due to the missed YC but nothing extra-ordinary.
Boring games, waiting for something better.
To be checked a possible offside when Uruguay hit the post, as Victor reported.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Saw it again know but without sliw motion and still the same angle. Looks offside.

      Delete
  25. Italian TV showed a possible penalty in second half, minute 70' or 71', when Cavani tried a shot in area and a teammate committed handball. Kuipers whistled in favor of defending team, replay showed that Cavani had been clearly stepped on his foot by an opponent, but he continued to play.
In any case, not a clear mistake and we can guess Makkelie saw it without intervening.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. It has already been shown during the game. Not a penalty for me. I'm sure Makkelie and his colleagues were aware of this incident and shared my opinion.

      Delete
  26. Another quiet game for the VAR :D Good referees need VAR less often as shown by Pitana and Kuipers :)

    ReplyDelete
  27. For me Kuipers just ok but not more. Missed YC and several little mistakes

    ReplyDelete

    1. I haven't seen the full match but seen a lot of experts full of praise for the referee!

  28. The official FIFA report shows only 1 YC being given during the match. Some users who reported that there has been 2 YCs in the match are most likely wrong!
