  3. So, Gassama, Aguilar, Conger, Brych and Grisha plus Marrufo-Abdulla-Karásev don't get a second GS game.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Gassama and Aguilar must get something in Round of 16, I would assume!

      Delete
    2. Just to note, in Gassama, Aguilar and Conger games there were missed penalties, assigned after VAR review.

      Delete
    3. There was also missed penalties inLahoz and Cunha’s games yet they got another one. So...

    1. Shocking! Your opinion on this second change, Soham.

      Delete
    2. Probably Faghani rejected a 4th official in shocking form! :D

      Delete
    3. Maybe they didn't want Irmatov on the pitch in case of injury by Faghani...

      Delete
    4. We must ask Collina :D

      Delete
    5. Maybe Irmatov is getting Uruguay-Portugal and they don't want to risk him.

      Delete
    6. I hope not ._. If that happens my prayers are with Portugal and Uruguay players :(

      Delete
    7. No way! If the Ref Comm assigns Irmatov to URU-POR they've just lost what little credibility they have left. It would be a Velasco Carballo Brasil v Colombia 2014 type of assignment. Undeserving!

      Delete
    8. Third fourth official on this match now... first SHUKRALLA, then IRMATOV, and now MARRUFO.

      Delete
    9. Oh no dear friends: Iranian ref backed by us-colleague... the FIFA-committeemembers are the new peacemakers for international politics. :-)))

      Delete
    10. Nothing new, Andrasch! Faghani was 4th official for Mark Geiger in Colombia-Greece and in France-Nigeria in 2014.

      Delete
  5. Panama v Tunisia could have easily have gone to either Sato or Bascunan. Why bring both of these referee's along with two AR's?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Sato and Bascunan deserved a game way more than Karasev that's for sure!

      Delete
    2. I'm not going to put up these 3 referee's head to head. I will say that there were enough games to get all full trios at least one assignment.

You brought up Karasev. I would say Maruffo. :D

    3. This comment has been removed by the author.

      Delete
    4. Both Marrufo and Mohammed, as well!

      Delete
    5. The only explanation I have are the daily friendship-games in the ref-trainingscamp where they wanted to see all the possible trios and if they thought some of them do not deserve the trust... But in case of Sato I really smell some other reasons. Noone backing him. And in case of Bascunan: He has the highest average of YC and RC of all refs in Russia by far! So I think they worried about their leniant style.

      Delete
    6. Might be the missed Mali goal in U-17 WC SF match by Sato and Sagara that cost them... Although that was down to FIFA not employing the GLT... It was a long shot played from beyond the centre circle and there was no way Sato or Sagara could get a view of that... A simple GLT would've solved it there but FIFA in all its wisdom didn't have it in the tournament!

      Delete
    7. Not even Jamaican World Class sprinter Usain Bolt could have caught up to that ball.

      Delete
    8. But then that's the only thing that went wrong in Sato's match... Other than that one argument would be that Sato didn't have any tournament with VAR in place before this but Mohammed had one tournament!

  6. So, we have 48 matches at the group stage.
There are 35 referees from 6 confedarations:
    AFC - 5, CAF - 6, CONCACAF - 6, CONMEBOL - 6, OFC - 2, UEFA - 10
After the GS, we have the following stats:

    UEFA Referees - 18 games/ 37,5%

    CONMEBOL Referees - 10 games/ 21%

    AFC Referees - 7 games/ 14,5%

    CONCACAF Referees - 6 games/ 12,5%

    CAF Referees - 6 games/ 12,5%

    OFC Referees - 1 games/ 4%

    1. 1 : 48 = 0.0208 = rather 2% than 4%. ;-)

    2. I tried to do it quickly for you;) so it could be 1-2% difference in percentage
      * 1 game for OFC referees

  7. Irmatov and Brych had very different approach to their respective games. I simply cannot see how FIFA can pick both of them for KO stage.

  8. What do you think...will we see Brych in KO stage ?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Spain v Russia? Or maybe Croatia v Denmark?

      Delete
    2. But you're sure that he'll appear in R16 ? And then with a good performance maybe also in a further match in semi-final or so ?

      Delete
    3. I don't know how we can't see Brych in the round-of-16. I still don't like the two Swiss players holding the Serb in the penalty area going uncalled, but what's done is done.

      Delete
    4. No I'm not sure... But since Brych is a huge name, him going back with only one game is a bit tough to imagine for me!

      Delete
    5. I am not sure. Brych and Karasev are the only UEFA refs with only one game so far. I was surprised to see Karasev doing his first match on MD3, particularly after being 4th official twice. Maybe he replaced Brych on MD3.

      Delete
    6. Brych for the Final :)

  9. Skomina is a waste on what is likely to be England reserves vs Belgium reserves. No team wants injuries or unecessary yellow cards and at the moment there is no real value in 1st over 2nd

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. It will be good warm-up before a KO appointment, isn't it?? :)

      Delete
    2. I would rather see Skomina in KO e. g. Uruguay vs Portugal than in the match England vs Belgium. BTW England does not have very good memories of Skomina from EURO2016 match against Iceland when they were defeated.

      Delete
    3. Indeed. Two relatively fair teams, not too much stakes. Good warm-up towards a QF/SF.

      Delete
    4. Skomina was coming from a poor CL Semi-final so 2 group stage games were mandatory before a KO!

      Delete
    5. Soham, in this context 2 group stage matches and one-time 4th official for Kuipers was a reward for EL Final this year??

      Delete
    6. I don't understand what you mean to say... That's a standard appointment for most referees... What I said is that Skomina is not someone Committee could experiment and hence safe to give 2 group stage games and then KO!

Moreover you can't be sure Uruguay will accept an European referee for a R16 match so Committee can't definitely keep his name aside for that game just like that!

      Delete
    7. Skomina could have got more so far. Second appointment for this ENG - BEL is indeed below the standard for him, after a quite good firsta appearance. However, I also think that he could get directly quarterfinal, so no Round of 16.
At the same time, this match could have been handled by another referee, from a different confederation.
The appointment looks indeed to be quite particular if compared to the other ones...

      Delete
    8. But it's a great opportunity for him to enter the KO stage very high on confidence!

      Delete
    9. It is however strange....

      Delete
    10. Skomina is a very "popular" referee in England. His firm optic, combined with a lenient approach, and radiating a natural authority all make him a referee commentators like.
But, most importantly in the (subconscious) eyes of English people, he likes to fade into the background which conforms to the British expectation of not just a referee, but authority in society.
That was deeper than I planned :-D, but I hope that can also formulate an explanation behind the PL style of refereeing.

      Delete
    11. Mikael W, thank you for this explanation, maybe that is also the reason why he has been appointed to this match. :-)

      Delete
  10. wow... FRA ARG and URU POR coming up. Just great fights! :-)

    1. Who will get France v Argentina?? Aguilar? Brych? Kuipers? Gassama?

      Delete
    2. I wouldnt be surprised if there is a UEFA referee for this match; Kuipers or Rocchi.

      Delete
  11. Mažić got far the hardest match on the paper, and I believe it would also be on the pitch. We can expect everything there: simulation, protests, dissent, harsh fouls... I hope I am wrong, but Mažić will have lot of job to do.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Hopefully he wont start as he started in KOR - MEX...

      Delete
    2. Ok, maybe he could show one YC in first 30 minutes, but was there mandatory YC? No! How many mandatory YCs Irmatov missed in 1st half, how many challenges right on the ankles with studs up? I think Mažić followed the instructions and I believe FIFA was very satisfied. If not, he wont be appointed in such important and hot duel - he would get something easier. Only my thoughts...

      Delete
  12. My idea is:
All support referees (mainly 4th officials) like Sato,Bascunan etc will go home.
'Main' referees with bad performances like Roldan, Marciniak etc will take their place as 4th officials, they won't go home.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Are you sure Marciniak has bad performance assessment of his matches?

      Delete
    2. Actually, I'm not but other UEFA referees were better.

      Delete
    3. Only 1 point : In case it's Marciniak himself who rejected VAR review for the Sweden penalty then he is gone for all money!

      Delete
  13. Abitro Internacional reports that Busacca and Collina wanted Abdulrahman Al-Jassim to referee Panama v Tunisia which was not accepted by the rest of the Committee. So Shukralla had to be put in there and that's why the change in 4th official of Brazil v Serbia.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Al-Jassim over Sato or Bascunan? Busacca and PLC are living in some sort of alternate universe. Byt that will be confirmed when they come out and blatantly lie about how VAR has been a huge success with a 99.999999% correct rate.

      Delete
    2. Hany Taleb of Qatar is the Vice-Chairman of RefsCom... Can you connect the dots now? :D

      Delete
    3. This well explains the appointment of Shukralla, which looked rather curious to me.
If this is his last game (I'm quite sure it won't be), then with 2014 he can be furious with how FIFA treated him at the WC.

      Delete
    4. Maybe they thought that giving him chance now would help him on his development path to 2022 as Qatar as a host should have one domestic referee

      Delete
    5. @Filip That would be a really poor thought... In case it wasn't, it's just pure politics but thank God not implemented!

      Delete
    6. I think they will try everything they can to have one referee from Qatar in 2022. I am not saying it is a good thing, but it is IMO their desire.

      Delete
    7. Al-Jassim will definitely referee in the World Cup 2022 but for that no need to give him a game now in Russia although he is only designated as a VAR!

      Delete
  14. Mazic - appointed based on assumed reputation (assumed because it’s a myth), not merit. Good luck to the players. I disagree with this appointment.

    1. It's good that you are "Unknown"... Biased comment!

      Delete
    2. Soham, I don't see the post of the ''Unknown'' as being a hater of Mažić. Quite often we read such a glorification of some referees (the ''name sells'' to express myself in marketing terms :-)) on this blog, which at times are not really justifed. I will not point out any names because I don't want a fight to re-start again which referee is better/worse or who made more/less mistakes, we alredy had this discussion on the blog and it led to no-where. My impression after seeing performances of referees from various confederations is that some (UEFA) referees, which we normaly see more often, are a bit overrated.

      Delete
    3. I choose to disagree, of course! ;)

      Delete
  15. So we are not allowed to have a different opinion than yours and we are immediately being characterized as haters.

    Thank you very much, Soham.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I didn't mean that... Very sorry! Since all your comments about Mazic are always negative, I said that... Very sorry again!

      Delete
    2. I started watching Mazic back in 2012 (even saw him live on a UCL P.O. match). When he was an ED referee. From the very first moment I spotted his ultra leniency (which was probably UEFA's line but not mine) and I didn't liked his style.

Moreover he struggled a lot on some clashes showing that he has zero personality. He was often influenced by the home fans and as a result he was below par. But he always had that backing no matter what. And that made me furious because other referees (with a more strict approach) never had a 2nd chance.

After all these, I am a hater?

      Delete
    3. Of course you can have your opinions... Definitely Mazic isn't the best UEFA referee but at the same I don't see so many problems with him either... He has been quite steady and solid at the highest level for some years now!

GET OUT OF FINANCIAL MESS WITH THE HELP OF drbenjaminfinance@gmail.com

I have been in financial mess for the past months, I’m a single mum with kids to look after. My name is REBECCA MICHAELSON, and am from Ridley Park, Pennsylvania. A couple of weeks ago My friend visited me and along our discussion she told me about DR BENJAMIN OWEN FINANCE of drbenjaminfinance@gmail.com that he can help me out of my financial situation, I never believed cause I have spend so much money on different loan lenders who did nothing other than running away with my money. She advised, I gave it a try because she and some of her colleagues were rescued too by this Godsent lender with loans to revive their dying businesses and paying off bills. so I mailed him and explain all about my financial situation and therefore took me through the loan process which was very brief and easy. After that my loan application worth $278,000.00USD was granted, all i did was to follow the processing and be cooperative and today I am a proud business owner sharing the testimony of God-sent Lender. You can as well reach him through the Company Email drbenjaminfinance@gmail.com
