DeleteThe sequence of numbers for WC games doesn't respect the chronological order of them.
Portugal - Spain will be Match #3
:D:D
DeleteVery logical... Incredible! How can match 4 be before match 3?!
DeleteDue to commercial reasons, the derby match to be played in prime time? It's logical indeed.
DeleteThis will be a totally different game. Hot atmosphere from the beginning.
ReplyDeleteMore intense and much more interesting game. Would be more interesting for refereeing, too. I believe Kuipers got bored today.
DeleteAgreed with Teo... The "minnows" are on fire 🔥
DeleteAlready first YC. Mandatory also for the context, it was clear.
ReplyDeleteTotally different game from EGY - URU.
Near to SFP. Absolutely mandatory YC.
DeleteOrange. YC absolutely correct for my taste.
DeleteCorrect 1st YC. Early? No. Deserved one.
ReplyDeleteRed one for me
DeleteIt’s a red but I think the standrd for red cards will be like in Brazil.
DeleteI'm a Laws of the Game type of referee. But I too am okay with that being a Yellow and not a Red. But as Teo said, fully "deserved". Regardless of the minute or the half it happens in.
DeleteWow :o Nice insight :o
Delete10' Correct YC from Cakir. First YC so early
ReplyDelete10th mins correct YC. Reckless Challenge.
ReplyDeleteQuick Q:
ReplyDeleteDoes anyone happen to be able to clip the equipment check before the walkout (when Iran came out a bit late and the two ARs did a quick equipment check down the line)?

ReplyDeleteWhile the earlier was bland and boring. This encounter is hot fiery. Iranian team with quite a few late (after the ball is gone) challenges. The card was spot on and Cakir has done a lot of talking. But words and 1 card may not be enough to keep control. We may see a "colorful" game. :D
ReplyDeleteGood but different advantage application by Cakir in 24th min.
ReplyDeleteLot of running for Cakir.
ReplyDelete32': not a deliberate handball.
ReplyDeletenot even a handball, it hit the shoulder
Deletegood call you can understand it from the deflection of the ball.
Delete34': correct YC by Cakir.
ReplyDeleteProbably missed foul in favor of Morocco prior the best chance for Iran.
ReplyDeleteThis game in first half was more challenging than the previous ones, still expected level for Cakir. So far, no controversies at all at this World Cup. What will happen in second half?
ReplyDeleteThat is down to the three names who have been in charge so far... Three of the biggest names in international refereeing in the current days... Class remains permanent :)
DeleteCould be, but no IMO. Just a physical play.
ReplyDelete+1
DeleteIf it was goal, could Cakir be called to review that possible foul???
DeleteI'm pretty sure it is reviewable (although I also don't think it was a foul).
DeleteImo very good first half for my countryman... keep up like this Cuneyt Cakir.
ReplyDeleteInteresting game and 2 correct YC for Çakir.
ReplyDeleteI agree. Cakır did a good job in the 1st half. We can expect a challenging 2nd half.
ReplyDeleteI'm just relieved to see that referee's are not taking the "yellow card directive" to an extreme by forgiving mandatory yellow cards simply because it's early in the match or because it's only the 1st half.
ReplyDeletePlease throw a party for this good news :D
DeleteOnly if you bring the khichdi, the naan, and the Kingfisher's. ;)
DeleteOther than the Kingfisher part, I'm in :D
DeleteYou're a beer snob also? :D
DeleteCorrect YC min 46
ReplyDeletecorrect YC 46' stamping on the feet.
ReplyDelete2 borderline YC situations. Cakir decided to keep the card in the pocket.
ReplyDeleteI'm impressed... Excellent from Çakir to not make it a card fest... Excellent man manager who uses the ability to much benefit!
DeleteThe old Cakir? Hopefully he is back!
DeleteMorocco v Iran can't judge that... But yes I like what I see :)
DeleteShould have been foul for Iran IMO
ReplyDelete62`
Delete64' possible YC close to AR2
ReplyDeleteFor match control purposes, I would have shown Yellow
DeleteI don't think the intensity was enough for a YC.
DeleteThank god Sheriff doesn't refere WC matches or else we would have 8 Yellows and 4 sending offs by now :D
DeleteYou're about as good a comedian as you are a referee. Kind of your predictions. ;)
DeleteDeal with it, Mr. LOTG ;)
DeleteA name I relish in and am proud of. Thanks kid! :D
DeleteYou're welcome, Grandpa :D
DeleteMissed YC in 63' ?
ReplyDelete63' IMO he should have issued a YC to Ziyech, absolutely no need to do that challenge.
ReplyDeleteJust my humble opinion but I feel referee can and should be flexible with such YCs... No one wants to see a card fest so not issuing YCs for borderline situations or situations where management is possible is the best option... There are so many stakeholders and let's remember that a referee has to think about everything and formulate their plan and approach for a particular game accordingly!!
DeleteWow, that was scary! Totally accidental but ugly and scary. There is no way that he should be allowed to continue.
ReplyDeleteI wonder how much added time. IMO shouldn't be less than 5'.
ReplyDeleteCakir shooed away the medical staff of Iran :D
DeleteLots of everything in last 20 minutes. Maybe Cakir could issue few more cards, there were several opportunities for that.
DeleteThankfully he hasn't done that... And that is Cakir 😎
DeleteI think he should. In that case, some mess at the end would be avoided.
DeleteHe is always more of a man manager then card waver in recent years so expected approach!
Delete86' missed YC for reckless elbow.
ReplyDelete6 minutes added. Well done!
ReplyDelete6 mins added time.
ReplyDeleteRude match with an awesome referee.
ReplyDeleteGreat management indeed.
ReplyDeleteCüneyt Çakır in MAR - IRN: expected level performance by the Turkish. Disciplinary control was overall OK, in my opinion. You can discuss about the chances to issue further cards, but all of them not 100% mandatory. Important thing in this game was the full control until the end, and this was ensured by his experience.
ReplyDeleteA signal that game could have been potentially very hot was the start of a possible mass confrontation.
I think that committee did a right choice in this game with Cakir, another referee could have lost it, with a different approach and less authority.
In my opinion still 8.4 in any case, too really challenging for a so experienced referee, to give 8.5.
Well done Cakir. So far the most challenging game.
DeleteLots of intense play but awful, boring football... Rocchi's game will be more exciting I am sure!

ReplyDeleteGreat start for Turkish trio. All under control. I wish we have old Cakir back. Expecting a decisive game for him on matcday 3.
DeleteWhy not 3 group games for Cakir? ;)
DeleteI think committee won't risk any final candidate referee that much. Also there is plenty of referee in the cup. Max 2 games on group stage.
DeleteBut still you never know :)
DeleteI totally agree Chefrens comment. This type of games can be a headache for the committee with a less experienced ref on the field. You can issue more number of cards but that approach doesnt work with so many number of hot players on the field. Well done Cakir; it was impressive man management.
ReplyDeleteThe first YC of the game, I rewatched it, is really close to RC for SFP, but one can still back referee. Still ok by VAR to support it.
ReplyDeleteIn the end we as refs can think more cards were needed and we are right. But why are we refs? Because of football. And what does football want? A match without talking about the referee after it’s over.
ReplyDeleteNobody can say anything about the referees so far in the world cup because the football community doesn’t want yellow cards to be issued and think differently.
That’s why these refs don’t go 100 % by the law.
1000% agreed with this insight... Great analysis and that is the practical scenario!!
DeleteGreat Performance by the Turkish Team. Great appointment from the commitee. I think this momentum will continue until the end of the tournament. UEFA is lucky to have Cakir, Skomina and etc.
