Clearly his performance wasn't assessed as something too good!
DeleteClearly? Clearly you didn’t see that POR-MAR was quite challenging and that ESP needs to win to really secure their place in the next round. I think that this appointment proves otherwise.
DeleteSpain v Morocco is not a direct shootout or something... A draw for Spain is more than enough and there is hardly anything big riding on this game... Not at all a sonorous match!
DeleteThis policy of appointments, where the consequences of a previous performance are clearly visible (example: Wilmar Roldán in KSA - EGY) is for sure something to relate to Collina's presence. It wasn't the same in 2014 and even totally different in 2010...

The goodbye-games to Irmatov and Roldan after their long career, a special bonus after bad performances in Russia.
ReplyDeleteFor Roldan definitely a goodbye game, and he may even not be selected for the next edition... But in case of Irmatov I can't be sure that this is a goodbye game!
DeleteAgree that it's goodbye to Roldán. The Spain-Morocco assignment for Irmatov has no meaning, I believe. We'll see him again.

Excellent appointment for Cáceres - here I expected Pitana but this was a similar choice from the same confederation, a clear signal that Cáceres convinced committee.
ReplyDeleteNot so good appointment for Irmatov, considering what we expected from him, however if Morocco is already eliminated, Spain needs to make points to be sure or qualification. In normal conditions, I would have expected a less sonorous name here.
The Uzbek should recover, maybe still a chance for a round of 16 game, but given this appointment I have already a certain feeling.
Roldán: as said, this assignment is the signal of the assessment he received for Tunisia - England.
For Diedhiou a very good second appearance in a quite nice game, even though it is valid only for deciding first and second place.
Really happy for Diedhiou and Cáceres... I'm expecting a lot of UEFA names tomorrow!
DeleteSoham, me too 😉..
DeleteSkomina will get Denmark v France :D
DeleteWell I think Skomina will get Nigeria - Argentina..
DeleteEither way you will get to see your Mr. Handsome :D
Delete😃😃👍
DeleteMohammed Abdulla Mohamed (UAE) apppointed 4th official for the 2nd time. Does that mean he is no longer in scope for on-field duty?
ReplyDeleteHe already got one game on the pitch... I don't think he has chances for a second game!
DeleteWhen will the results of the predictions for matchday 2 be released?
ReplyDeleteYou have to wait for a couple of days :)
DeleteChefren, do you think this will be Irmatov's last match? What about Serbia - Brazil? Who will be the ref there, will be the final referee? Faghani?
ReplyDelete@Federico too many difficult questions, here :)
DeleteI give my opinions: Irmatov still with a chance for (at least) a round of 16 game, if you ask me. If he recovers in ESP - MAR, with a very good performance, or at least expected level, he can be in charge of a further game.
Serbia - Brazil: my candidates for this game are Faghani and Geiger. I don't see other options. This is not a match for CAF, I think no chances for Gassama. For sure, referee will come from a neutral confederation.
About the final, you know, it is too early, some referees have a good pattern so far, but we must wait... in a day, everything can change.
I think Irmatov deserved the final in 2010WC (Webb wasn't so good in that match). Then in 2014 I read he was the first choice, but there were problems with Argentina. Can he reach the maiden final in 2018WC? ;)
DeleteHowever, IMHO for FIFA Faghani is better than Irmatov, but Irmatov is ahead Geiger.. Let's see..
Even if I am from Serbia, I don't find the match Serbia-Brasil as a big one. Of course, it is decider, but Brasil is such a big favorite in this match. Of course, i hope Serbia can win, or draw and go through thanks to the other result, but FIFA can appoint many refs for this duel.
DeleteJust a thought I had... perhaps Irmatov should stick around for the 3rd place match. Obviously his first performance was not up to par, but he's been an excellent referee for years and it feels like he should have had his chance at a World Cup Final at some point. The third place match would be a nice thank you...
DeleteIrmatov can have one more WC after this one
DeleteMy predictions in 2nd part of MD2 and MD3 are total disaster :(
ReplyDeleteFirst I was about to predict Diedhiou in URU-RUS, but then swapped to Gassama... :(
ReplyDeletePoor you :(
DeleteKuipers and Pitana remain favourites for the final game. Kuipers is a class act and Pitana has been solid too. Btw, this Pitana prediction is based in the assumption that Brazil and Argentina won't make It all the way Thereza.
ReplyDeleteFaghani?
Delete...all the way there.
ReplyDeleteNout Kuipers, semfinal max for him at this world cup, main favorite Nestor Pitana.
ReplyDeleteOnce again Felix Zwayer has been appointed VAR to Ravshan Irmatov. Should we brace ourselves for more missed SFP or VC?

ReplyDeleteValeri still without appointments as main VAR after BRA - SUI.
ReplyDeleteIrrati serious candidate for WC final as VAR, given his appointments.
After his miss in Portugal-Spain (Diego Costa's foul on Pepe), I find it strange he keeps getting these appointments, especially another Portugal game.
DeleteApperantly it wasnt assessed as a mistake
DeleteIt wasn’t definitely assessed as a mistake.
DeleteActually, it has been defined “the correct decision”.
Will they keep the combination of a team eg Kuipers/Makkelie or Rochi/Irrati or pick the best ref and best VAR eg Kuipers/Irrati or Rochi/Makkelie? Is this already communicated?
DeleteBTW starting from tomorrow something will change in the VOR.
ReplyDeleteSince two games will be played at the same time, there will be two crews working maybe close each other in the same room. Interesting to see how they will be shown at the beginning of the games...
You'd think they'd have two separate rooms.
DeleteHi,
ReplyDeleteI'm from France and I'd like to hear what you think about the chances for Clément Turpin to go far (Round of 16 ?) in this WC.
Thanks
Rather less! It's a great experience for him to participate and also whistle match in the group stage... For sure he has about 2-3 more WCs left and he can achieve a lot more there!
DeleteI agree, he is obviously a referee with great potential
ReplyDeleteI hope he will get one more match in KO Stage, Japan-Senegal seems suitable for him
As for the final Kuipers is the favourite IMO, since it appears to be pretty scarce for a referee to officiate on the opener and the final (Elizondo in 2006 is the only one of I'm not mistaken ?)
Japan v Senegal already was played yesterday and Gianluca Rocchi was the referee :)
DeleteFIFA doesn't want a European referee again for the final.
DeleteJoel Aguilar for the Final :D
DeleteMore likely Roldan. :D
DeleteI meant Senegal v Colombia of course :)
ReplyDeleteNo way. That is head to head clash for going int next round. Some much more experienced referee will be appointed there
DeleteProbably but FIFA's choices are sometimes weird.
DeleteOT:
ReplyDeleteFresh reported info about Spanish refereeing:
-New LaLiga referees are Eduardo Prieto Iglesias (already refereed there since 2013 until his relegation in 2016), Guillermo Cuadra Fernández and Adrián Cordero Vega.
-This means only a referee will be relegated from LaLiga, maybe retired Álvarez Izquierdo occupying the other relegation spot. The identity of the referee still remains unknown.
-José Luis Munuera Montero will be a FIFA referee in 2019, taking the badge of Fernández Borbalán.
Trujillo Suárez reportedly to be the relegated referee. Not a good season so far for him, but I expected Iglesias Villanueva instead.
DeleteCiao Quilava, thanks for your rumors. Manuera , in my opinion, is a good referee and UEFA award is deserved.
ReplyDeletePrieto 1981- others two 1984
It's supposed to become official this afternoon, i'll try to upload the lists during Group A & B matches :).
DeleteIgnacio Iglesias Villanueva's younger brother Javier Iglesias Villanueva will be a referee of Liga 123 (2nd category)
Prieto Iglesias was very good in the playoff Numencia - Valladolid, deserved according to my perception.

DeleteWell done for me, 4 games- 0 points in prediction game
Delete3/4 - I‘m happy now :-)
DeleteThese appointments are indicating that Shukralla won't be getting a 2nd Group stage match... Similarly one of Brych, Mazic and Skomina most likely will remain without a 2nd game... A direct R16 clash for names like Shukralla?
ReplyDeleteSame would apply for Gassama, Sikazwe and Aguilar... Not all of them can get a 2nd group game! I think Mazic will get Senegal v Colombia, Skomina will get Belgium v England and Gassama/Sikazwe in Japan v Poland... Very difficult to predict a name for Tunisia v Panama but maybe Mohammed or Conger?
DeleteInteresting. So, who gets the the last 4...
ReplyDeletePan - Tun Skomina? Sato? Pitti? Shukrallah?
Eng - Bel Mazic? Brych? Skomina?
Jpn - Pol Gassama? Aguilar?
Sen - Col Brych? Mazic? Skomina?
What do you think?
John Pitti (Panama) in Panama v Tunisia?? :D
DeleteShukralla is clearly not possible as you can see!
Cunha, Mohammed and Shukralla have all been selected 4th official twice, I guess that means they have now been taken from the list of on-field duty. TUN-PAN: maybe Sato?
DeleteI would really wish to see Sato there but don't think he is going to get a game :(
