Copa América 2021 - Discussion Page
A comment section for all things relating to the CONMEBOL Copa América 2021, hosted by Brazil from June 13 - July 10.

One surprise: Haro was originally designated as VAR only and Carrillo was gonna be the Peruvian main ref. No explanation I know of why it has been changed, but I do like Haro.
Ostojich got rave reviews in an easy game. He's leading the pack, no wonder he got last year's Libertadores final game. Patricio Lostau comes in a close second. Pitana has been a ghost ever since his disastrous WC final. No top talent has emerged in Brazil recently, maybe Claus in good days.
Not really :) I cherish Juan Carlos Lostau and Horacio Elizondo! Patricio Lostau is certainly as dependable as his father, consistently delivering great performances.
Pitana's WC final was widely criticized in this blog at the time, so I'm not alone :) He is past his prime.
On the other hand, I can't name a great Brazilian FIFA referee in WC's after Arnaldo Cezar Coelho and Jose Roberto Wright. R. Marsiglia and Carlos Simon were just Ok, Sandro Ricci a lot better in 2018, but that's it.
Ona side note, CONMEBOL's committee is currently chaired by Brazilian Wilson Seneme and has not appointed many Brazilians for Libertadores or Sudamericana Cup. They are correct IMHO.
As for WC 2022, Raphael Claus is in top form and is very likely to be there.2. He can be great one day and lousy the next...let's hope for the best.
UEFA and CONMEBOL decided to release the first appointments of the mutual ‘guests’ on the same day :) After Rapallini was appointed this morning for Austria-North Makedonia CONMEBOL just appointed Jesus Gil Manzano for the match of Chile vs Bolivia.
Jesús Gil Manzano (ESP) will make his debut in 2021 Copa América as UEFA guest on 18 June 2021, officiating Chile - Bolivia in Group A. De Burgos and Munuera will work as VAR while Rojas from Colombia will be fourth official.
The ball hit Pitana after brazilian pass. Brazil hold the ball and Pitana let them play but right after 5 seconds they made a goal. The game couldn’t start for 8 minutes, Colombian players were protesting him.
Very different approach by Valenzuela than what we so from Brych earlier! Lots of cautions, all warranted, but not letting anyone get away with anything or being lenient with the players. I think it's an effective strategy for this sort of game. He seems to be in full control in spite of the (as expected) physical nature of the game.
