ReplyDeleteA strange 'play on' signal with both hands in the air!
ReplyDeleteNot important. Very important, correct decision
DeleteErm yes they were correct decisions, but if you start making strange signals that'll just confuse everyone!
DeletePersonally, as a fan watching TV, I prefer when the referee shows play on with two hands. In this way it is clear immediately that is not a free kick.
DeleteWhat's "strange" about using two arms?
DeleteIt's the classic, correct, and still accepted signal to apply advantage.
The single arm gesture is something adopted more recently.
One gesture is no more correct than the other.
It's a matter of referee preference.
It was two arms straight up in the air, that's not a normal advantage or play on signal! Never seen it in my entire life (unless it's from a cricket umpire signalling a 6!)
DeleteThat's a bit exaggerated. You make it seem as if Rapallini was signaling for an NFL "Touchdown". He wasn't.
DeleteRapallini’s positioning isn’t great so far, he’s been too close to play and in the way at some points.
ReplyDeletePossibly. Unlike Orsato, he doesn't get struck by the ball.
DeleteMissed corner for CRO.
ReplyDeleteThe rest is fine for now.
That was a corner.
ReplyDeleteCorrect YC by Rapallini.
ReplyDeleteCorrect YC for Lovren (CRO) in 26'. Rapallini's fitness seems to be very good, fast running.
ReplyDeleteCorrect YC again.
ReplyDeleteThis is the first time I am watching Rapallini and I must say he seems like a very good referee.
ReplyDeleteSo far Rapallini is really convincing in this "K0 stage" game in GS. His style suits this match. Could you imagine a more pedantic ref doing this match? Its not the most beautiful match but its really enjoyable to watch
ReplyDeleteAgreed completely, he’s the perfect choice for this match and he’s been really up for it so far.
DeleteEnjoy to watch Rappallini. Very convincing, with absolutely extraordinary fitness, positioning, decisions. Two correct Yc. Little rest, then I hope more enjoy in officiating....
ReplyDeleteHe definitely make good decisions.
ReplyDeleteVery good first half by Rapallini. I agree, enjoyable to watch him refereeing, fitness is definitely a strength. In case of a similar second half, it would be fair to appoint him for another match.
ReplyDeleteThat is an understatement…
DeleteIn similar referees exchanges between CONCACAF and AFC (champions leagues in 2018 and Gold Cup / Asian Cup in 2019), the exchange referees were giving semifinal assignments each time. I don’t think these assignments should be pre-determined, but in Rapallini’s case he’s definitely earned it. If he were to get only a R16 game, that wouldn’t be enough… but of course, that depends on how this second half goes before we talk about what comes next.
Since Turpin and Orsato performance wise could/should be out an appointment for QF would be possible and deserved IMO. For SF/F UEFA his too much "Top guns" of their own
DeleteMaybe they shouldn't, but they are pre-determined. I do not see UEFA agreeing to have a referee from another confederation in a semi-final. I expect maximum QF for both Rapallini and Gil Manzano.
DeleteIf he perform very well, we shloud not be surprised if he recive the final (at this tournament Rappalini showed more than Kuipers, and he is not only who showed that). Merit is important, not country or confederations. So, hope that Rappallini will perform well, maybe we will se him on Wembley final.
DeleteIn particular with 4 between NED-GER-ESP-ITA-ENG will arrive in Semifinal, Rapallini will referee SM.
DeleteNever say never, but in this case I dare to say that will not happen. We have at least 3 names who are capable and deserving of this final. No way they are gonna give that to Conmebol.... maybe as 4th official though :)
DeleteGreat game here, as both teams HAVE to try and score again. Ref.s fitness is good and will be testedz up and down like a fast U18 boys match. RAPPALINI is very switched on so far,
ReplyDeleteIf
ReplyDeleteSemifinal 1: ITA-FRA
Semifinal 2: GER-NED
Final: Mateu
Semifinals: Rapallini - Taylor
Don be funny
Deletein every case in this case Orsato-Turpin-Brych-Kuipers-Makkelie will be out if ITA-FRA-GER-NED arrive in SM.
DeleteExcellent prevention by AR1 and Rapallini, they could avoid a confrontation in 66'.
ReplyDeleteMe too, I love Rapallini's style and I am really enjoying seeing him on the pitch! I was not so excited about that exchange between UEFA and CONMEBOL but I must say we earn for sure much more having Rapallini instead of Gil and would be happy as well changing sometimes Italian referees with foreigners in Italian serie A
ReplyDeleteHere's what interesting. Rapallini is technically Argentina's #3, behind Pitana and Loustau (who were chosen for the Copa America).
DeleteIt's a similar situation for Gil Manzano. Who is probably Spain's #3, behind Lahoz and del Cerro Grande.
Yet both of these "number 3's" have performed exceptionally well.
In regards to Gil Manzano.
DeleteHe's been assigned to handle Ecuador v Peru on Wednesday.
It's a "must win game for Ecuador and Peru can ensure a spot in the KO round with a win.
However, both Pitana and Loustau are 46 and probably done after Copa America, so Rapallini is actually No. 1 in Argentina with respect to international appointments in the near future.
DeleteAgreed. I'm just speaking in the present tense.
DeleteBut I must say that Argentina has a promising looking future with Rapallini taking over the top spot.
If Rapallini is no.3 then why does he have Pitana's AR from the world cup?
DeleteBecause AR's are easily interchangeable.
DeleteRapallini is pre-selected with Belatti and Bonfá for WC 2022.
DeleteRapallini did and does auch a Good Job. I Hope that we see him in the semis and quarters.
ReplyDeleteHe did very well in 2 games but we shouldn’t forget this is EURO championship.
ReplyDeleteI think a missed yellow card at 86’ but it’s the first foot Rapallini has put wrong today.
ReplyDeleteAfter CRO-SCO my only comment is that I realy hope Rapallini will get a match in knock out faze. I am very positively surprised with his performance, great referee, based on what I have seen tonight.
ReplyDeleteVery good job by Rapallini. A fantastic referee
ReplyDeleteI hope Rapallini gets a KO stage match (Round of 16 or QF), he would deserve it.
ReplyDeleteI must say I am very impressed by Rapallini, he did a great job in both matches. Good prevention, excellent fitness. Speaking about performances, he should get another match. But I am not so sure, only disadvantage is his nationality – unfortunately.
ReplyDeleteI wouldn't be surprised if Rapallini gets QF
ReplyDeleteRapallini looks like a UEFA referee, now he is a real contender for KO stage! Barriers were not a problem for him!
ReplyDeleteI was at Hampden tonight, and a pleasure to see a "different" referee.
ReplyDeleteMinor criticisms - a bit too up with play at times (he was nearly 'offside' himself once!), and some long whistle blasts. However, he intervened a couple of times to prevent confrontations, and he ensured subbed players left field of play at nearest point. And, he seemed totally accepted by the players
OT Regarding the rainbow, UEFA has lost all credibility.
ReplyDeleteThey say that they respect the rainbow, but they can't allow it during the games because it becomes political message. In other words, they don't want to cause Hungary's reaction, it would be read as provocation.
So in a particular context the rainbow is a provocation, while generally it is a good message.
Well...
Just playing devil's advocate:
DeleteThe problem is, that the rainbow would not be directed against discrimination in general, but against the new law regarding homosexuality passed by the Hungarian parliament recently. This is the reason, the organizer's named, so not much room for interpretation there.
So if you allow this protest against a law, you can hardly forbid any other protest action in a stadium that is directed against a political decision in another country.
But of course, it offers a lot of room for justified criticism.
DeleteE.g., UEFA collaborates not only with Hungary, but with several sponsors from countries where homosexuality is not accepted (Russia, China, Qatar).
If you start with the topic, you obviously come back to the discussion whether big sports events should be held in those countries (WC 18, WC 22, Olympics 22).
So UEFA should now emphasize their fight against homophobia by proposing and conducting other meaningful actions, I think - even if they will be criticized for duplicity.
And the Hungarian law will hopefully lead to consequences by the EU
@Admins: Feel free to delete this discussion, if you think, it doesn't belong here.
Exactly, UEFA should ban those countries to be consistent, but being this impossible, you have such situation.
Deletemikael Could you share the link of match?
