  1. Possible missed yellow card for Luke Shaw for a reckless challenge on 18’

    1. Mandatory for me. Clear stamp, UEFA instructed the referees to punish them strictly. YC to be given.

    2. Agreed, great explanation. Will almost certainly be on the Euro 2020 RAP as a missed caution

  2. Now, now, now, for those who supported a RC for Ampadu, what do you say about Shaw's stamp on 18'.
    Didn't even get a YC.

    1. The fact Shaw deserved YC but received only a warning doesn't mean that Amadu did not deserve RC.

    2. Exactly, still cannot compare these challenges. Everyone presented arguments and a great analysis was made, so you can stop talking about that. And if Hategan gets another game we are waiting for apologies :)

    3. Why are you obsessed Ethan Ampadu, Lawaj? Do you think he is good looking?

  3. Soares Dias forgot to book Saka for taking his top off?

    1. This was not done in celebration, he was taking his under-shirt off.

    2. Okay, just saw a pic on twitter. Watching the other game

  4. 23' Offside against Shaw. Looked incorrect from the naked eye, but very close. Given he was through, I think the flag should have been delayed, it was very prompt

  5. Extremely strange positioning of A. Dias, nearly always in the middle, often disturbing the players...

    1. Well, German commentator is a bit annoyed by Dias' positioning, he even mentioned that it could be subject of the debriefing with the referee observer... :D

    2. Out of curiosity: is it possible at all that the observer debrief at half time?

    3. I don't think so. At least I cannot confirm that from my experience.

    4. NO debriefing at half time...it's a moment for referees between them.

    5. The observer is not allowed to enter the referee's dressing room at half-time.

  6. Missed yellow card for SPA on 58’ for Kalvin Phillips in my opinion. Clear holding

  7. Terrible foul detection (and disciplinary control) from Soares Dias. Playing it safely at all cost (pro forma warnings, talking), not being focused on actual events...

  8. Good teamwork at the disallowed England goal (86'): The referee detected that the ball came from the attacker, so that the AR could flag for offside after a short delay. VAR could quickly confirm.

    1. Yeah, noticed the same. Very good!

  9. No talk about Dias, I think he could get a KO-match.

  10. Dias' has had an EXCELLENT game. He missed a foul in 16' on Saka, but it was not a big deal. Also in my opinion, although he did not go according to the book, I think he was right not to book Shaw on 18' for a potential stamp.

What I loved the most about the ref's performance tonight was his consistency throughout the game in allowing some degree of physicality.

I hope we see him again in the KOs.

    1. Yeah, I agree. Who needs stamps to be punished, it's a men's sport after all. Some physicality never hurt. Especially with all these ridiculous stamp penalties!!!

    2. More good news for Lawal. Ethan AMPADU (WLS) is untaken by woman.

    3. According to our resources the Welsh defender has no official girlfriend. But it's a known fact that he likes to keep things private, so.. who knows?

    4. Oh, thanks for the good news Carl! Lawaj will indeed be happy :)
Honestly Laway, you're comments are getting weirder with every day. It was not bad from Soares today, but it was from "EXCELLENT"!! You have to be more consistent than that, and he obviously missed not only the things you said, but also some fouls in the second half..

    5. @anonymous

Everyone is entitled to an opinion. I thought Dias' performance was EXCELLENT, and you on the other hand feel that it was not.

That's not a problem, we can agree to disagree. That's part of what makes this blog fun.

    6. Lawal agree. This performance EXCELLENT compares to other arbitration EXCELLENT, by Carlos CARBALLO (SPA) BrasilxColumbia CM2018.

    7. So? Are people not allowed to like Velasco's performance in Brazil - Colombia? Why do you think that everyone must like same things? Even if not agreed, different opinions should be accepted and respected.

    8. ANONYMOUS 1526 +1

Carlos CARBALLO Velasco (SPA) was EXCELLENT. CARBALLO or Noumendiaz DESIRE (IVO) for CM2014FINAL (no CM2018...).

  11. Soares Dias with minor mistakes and pronlems in positioning in 1st half. Second half good teamwork disallowing English goal. Positive his very clear signs, good body language and communication. Good feeling for the character of the match, 1, maybe 2 missed YCs, do all in all a good performance opening probably his way to a knockout game.

  12. Not in Proenca's league at all.
Shaw was YC, if not for "tread" then shortly after for PI when he clearly impeded player's run with his hand. A number of clear fouls not given to Czechs, I felt in 1H home advantage really helped.
Positioning (as with many refs) was poor, straight up and down, hit once, jumped out way twice, missed a foul whilst having to pirouette.
Did not convince me at all, I felt the players managed the game and fortunately both sides just wanted to play.
Not in top 12, so no KO game

    1. "Fortunately both sides just wanted to play" sums the performance pretty well. With Soares Dias' approach it could have become a nightmare if there were ill-disciplined teams.

It didn't get a media attention though, so a R16 game could follow.
