Kuipers is back for DEN-BEL ! Good news
ReplyDeleteExpected matches for Kuipers and Rapallini. I'm very curious about Rapallini, never seen a match of him before.
ReplyDeleteReally good match for Grinfeld, with two teams who won their first match. Rosetti seems to have real trust in him.
Would have loved to see the group C appointments swapped. However good and sensuele appointments. Kuipers quite expected given also that Makkelie has the other group B match.
ReplyDeleteNow the designation of Kevin Blom as AVAR in Finland - Russia the day before, puts the handball situation in ITA-TUR (45') in an other perspective. Was committee not so happy with the non-intervention? What do you guys think?
ReplyDeleteWow, such a game for Grinfeld after his very poor performance in Rangers - Slavia? I'm surprised!
ReplyDeleteUKRMKD could be a feisty game and it's a good choice to appoint the CONMEBOL referee to it!
Standard appointment for Kuipers, he is being prepared for something big I think.
Three expectable names for Thursday with their first match each.
ReplyDeleteDEN-BEL needed a big name, so Kuipers makes a lot of sense as there is apparently no issue anymore with Dutch referees for Belgium.
In group C, Grinfeeld with the more sonorous match, while Rapallini's could be the more difficult also given the group situation. So hard to say, which one is the better appointment.
Double appointment for van Boekel. Maybe they just decided, that he is the more experienced Dutch VAR and therefore will be used for both referees during the rest of the tournament. Just a bit strange then, that they didn't do it for the opening match.
Spanish referee for Rapallini was expected.
Gil with his first appointment as (head) VAR.
Normal 4th official appointments, but maybe worth mentioning that they don't have a problem with a Swede for Denmark and a Slovenian for North Macedonia - I am not sure, whether that would also be done in the referee position.
Concerning Grinfeeld vs. Rapallini, I am not sure which of the two matches is considered "more important" by UEFA: Currently, both the Netherlands and Austria would be qualified for the knockout stage whereas the Ukraine and North Macedonia battle for the third place which could mean a third ticket for the participants of group C. In other words: The winner of the latter game could still hope to advance to the round of sixteen, the loser rather not.
DeleteWhy would a Swedish referee with Denmark or a Slovenian referee with North Macedonia be an issue? Imposing such stringent restrictions solved a nonexistent problem and creates plenty of issues itself.
DeleteWell I am immediately fascinated by how Rapallini will handle the UKRMKD game. More than any other in the GS, this game surely requires a law-enforcer approach, whereas the Argentine has focused (in the games I've seen), on careful match management.
ReplyDeleteOther two appointments are perhaps a trifle surprising but mostly predictable. Because all my friends here will ask me :D - who do you think will be the referee of ENGSCO?
Turpin candidate for ENG - SCO.
DeleteI would love to see Cakir for ENGSCO!
DeleteENG-SCO: I think Mateu Lahoz or Turpin.
DeleteI would also tend towards Turpin - with Mateu being an equally good and realistic option.
DeleteSorry, i don't remember my predictions for 2nd MD....it's possible to publish? Thank you!
DeleteI predicted Felix Brych for ENG-SCO and I do not change my prediction...
DeleteNicola Lonardi, I got your mail, just wait for a while and we will send you an answer. Thanks.
DeleteMateu for ENG-SCO?
ReplyDeleteKovacs
ReplyDeleteEngland easy win but match with high tension. Kovacs is perfect.
DeleteVery rarely do these fixtures result in an easy england win
DeleteInteresting remark, Rapallini with Spanish VARs and observer as well (David Fernández Borbalán). This has been made to ensure communication in Spanish between them. CONMEBOL referees have shown in FIFA tournaments that they don't like English too much.
ReplyDeleteThis also intrigues me, how Rapallini will communicate with players in UKR - MKD? A game to be watched.
MKD - UKR may be such a difficult match. I don't think that aregentinian referee is a suitable choice. I bet he never heard or seen any if both teams.
DeleteSuch a mistake by UEFA. The experiment is about to become a fiasco. They should have chosen other teams for this referee.
Wow, still no Oliver
ReplyDeleteLots of referees don’t have a game yet. He will get his chance, there is no need to worry.
Delete"Lots of ..."? Oliver, Kovacs - who else?
DeleteLots of referees: Oliver, Oliver, Oliver, Oliver and Oliver.
DeleteHe is FO at ITA-WAL.
DeleteITA-SUI sorry
DeleteTo be number one referee in the best league in the world but still no game, I am hoping this means Rosetti has something special for him lined up!
DeleteHuh, I thought there were more. My bad
DeleteUnimportant but fun trivia about these appointments: referees from three different continents working this tournament on the same day!
ReplyDeleteAnother unimportant but fun trivia about Kuipers: His last appearance at a EURO game was at a quarter-final in 2016 between Iceland and Kurdistan - according to WORLDREFEREE:
Deletehttps://worldreferee.com/referee/bjorn_kuipers/
Three continents? Why? Israel is in UEFA, if you mean that.
DeleteI think, smala017 referred to the official geographic mapping. Inside FIFA, also Australia is part of Asia etc.
DeleteFIFA referee Bas Nijhuis explained extensively on Dutch TV/Radio (Veronica Inside) and other media that it’s clearly obvious that UEFA’s strategy is to bring Kuipers smoothly to the final with not only a late appointment but also a “normal” match comparing to some others. In this way committee keeps him out of troubles for the important matches, including the final. Kuipers would have been asked by UEFA to continue refereeing after WC2018, after he indicated in interviews that he wanted to stop. A final at this EURO would be his reward for continuing and of course a nice farewell appreciation.
ReplyDeleteIf the final is already awarded in concept to Kuipers, that wouldn’t be fair to Brych, Lahoz, Cakir and Orsato. Then they already have no chance! Besides this Brych is in a much better shape than Kuipers.
DeleteSounds like what happened in 2014 with Rizzoli getting the big call although Kuipers was by far the best ref back then. Dont get me wrong I wouldnt mind it if Brych or Lahoz get the big call instead of Kuipers. However we dont have to act like Kuipers is not the clear and obvious nr.1 choice for this years final and deservedly so
DeleteDutch National team reached the SF in 2014 and therefore there was no chance to achieve more for Kuipers. So it had nothing to do with Rizzoli.
DeleteBrych is clearly performing better than Kuipers the last two years. Juventus - Porto, England - Poland and Inter - Dortmund were not that good of Kuipers this season. Even Lahoz is better at the moment with an superb CL final. But I still hope Cakir has a big chance.
My guesses.
ReplyDeleteSweden-Slovakia: Michael Oliver
Czechia-Croatia: István Kovacs
England-Scotland: Felix Brych
Three expectable appointments this time. It's interesting to see the Dutch VAR in those positions again, I certainly think that we should question commitee's happiness about ITA-TUR...
ReplyDeleteIf that’s true my admiration for Rosetti is completely gone! But even worse then we can conclude he’s a slave of Italian media. Here in Germany the VAR was praised for not intervene and positively supported by Manuel Grave in Sportstudio. Also Gary Lineker in England said he would like to see the same approach in Premier League where handball is a disaster. Changing the VAR after one situation that isn’t even clear and obvious wrong and praised in the news all over Europe would be dictatorial. I am curious if he would have done the same in a different match or with Irrati..
DeleteEven if Rosetti prefers a handball there, I can't see how this can be considered a "clear and obvious" situation and therefore a mandatory VAR intervention. Only if Makkelie didn't see the handball at all, a VAR intervention would be an option.
DeleteAnd apart from that, íf Uefa would consider this a clear mistake by VAR, what’s the point of swapping VAR and AVAR? I would say AVAR (Pol van Boekel) in that case would be responsible for the non-intervention as well. I assume there’s mutual consultation between VAR and AVAR(‘s).
DeleteI think Orsato and Mateu for semifinals and Kuipers for final.
ReplyDeleteYour tips are too early. 😄
DeleteEspecially since Spain, Italy or the Netherlands may very well end up in the Semifinal / Final. Plus, Brych and Turpin might also end up with a semifinal if Germany/France do not end up in the semis...
DeleteI also think that if Italy, Spain and the Netherlands do not reach the semifinals, the appointments will be those of anonymous at 15:09 today.
