    1. Similar to kinmich in Germany v France high boot making contact I believe both these warrant yellow cards.

  2. The award for most rolls goes to that Macedonian player

  3. I would have liked to see a YC to be issued in 4‘ or at least a very strong warning bur apart from that I see a good referee so far. good positioning and seems to be very alert.

    1. Also Gil Manzano who will be Conmebol when they appoint him on Copa America.

    2. I find it so odd to watch the referees in these major tournaments and not seeing them with their FIFA badges.

  5. Good performance so far, correctly disallowed goal by AR2 right now, according to VAR procedure. Not the kind of game I had guessed so far, though. Most of EURO games are all quiet and calm.

  6. These delayed offside flags are baffling and look so out of sync with the game as we know it.
38 mins NMKD player collects ball in an offside position proceeds 3/4 yards with 3/4 touches, pulls the trigger and scores, THEN the flag goes up. Can someone explain to me WHY the delay and no flag the minute he FIRST touched the ball?
And don’t get me started on where they take the (offside) free kick from!!!

    1. This is how VAR works, you should have already watched many similar situations before, AR2 was right in waiting, the goal didn't happen too much later, if compared to other incidents we saw.

    2. Man, you need to understand that Uefa instructions are delay unitl the end of attack, than flag up, or, delay than if Gk take the ball, flag up becouse referee can recognize your call. Thats all. Cheers.

    3. So var can overturn it if the assistant had made a mistake. Otherwise if referee blows immediately ruins a goal scoring opportunity

    4. It just doesn’t look right! If you’re offside and receiving the ball, the minute you touch it, you should be given offside. There’s been many examples of this in this tournament, but really it’s not right and delayed flags are eventually going to cause serious injury.

      Delete
    5. There are normally no injuries. I don't remember any...
It's just to give the VAR the possibility to correct the referee team's mistake. And that's absolutely logical.

  7. Bravo Fernando! I was sceptical when his participation was announced, but he's totally suiting European football.

  8. Excellent YC for simulation!

  9. Fantastic yellow card for simulation! Excellent!

Would’ve loved to see that from karasev to make it perfect performance from karasev!

Well done to the Argentinian man!

  10. Great decision! Wasn't easy to spot,so excellent by Rapallini to book UKR#10 for this ridicolous dive!

  11. first YC for diving at this tournament ?! Good call.

  12. Excellent, brillant YC !!!

  13. Good first half for Argentinian Referee ! good job and fantastic YC for simulation without VAR. Not easy decision.

    ReplyDelete
  14. Excellent simulation decision! ++ I would add, lovely "CONMEBOL referee" gestures to make clear he was about to issue YC. Maybe a UEFA official would have ignored that?

    1. i exciting for Mondial 2022 watch other referee.
what do you think Chefren ?

    2. Yes it is fascinating to see referees from different confederations. They have particular style, we could say that UEFA at moment about refereeing is trying to go towards a "standardization" that maybe doesn't allow too much a referee in being himself on the pitch. In FIFA tournaments, all referees can keep their style.

  16. 52' extremely tight offside missed by AR2.

    1. Yes, but, as you said very tight. Same situations happeneds in Cl final in Milano, and the match was still good officiated.

  17. Penalty decision by Rapallini looks a correct and definitely not easy one.
Too early to say that, but this performace can turn in the best so far :D

    1. I agree. So far, very good performance by Rapallini. Penalty decision was correct, good YC for diving in first half and now good YC for a reckless stamp. Not the most difficult game but I have the feeling that he is well prepared.

    2. CLEAR AND OBVIOUS dangerous play by by the attacker. I am shocked that VAR didn't intervene... and even more I am shocked that everybody here agrees with the penalty call.

  18. correct YC, not easy to spot but given without hesitation.

  19. Another good decision YC at 59' for Macedonia foul

  20. Let’s assume he will maintain this level. It was kind of assumed that he would be given only one game, but is there some agreement for this or is it possible to see him again, he would deserve another appointment.

    ReplyDelete

    1. Id say it would even deserve an 1/8final for me.

  21. Now #9 UKR should hav been booked for his reaction against keeper (not a violent conduct, though).

    2. Handball in the wall

      Delete
    3. Probably missed serious incident, otherwise an OFR would rather be not correct. Penalty is at least supportable but for me it was not the clearest OFR ever.

      Delete
  25. handball by player in the wall. if completely missed by referee I think good intervention.

    ReplyDelete
  26. tbh I'm not sure if that should have been reviewed. Penalty is obviously supportable but I can't say that I agree with the assessment of an "obvious mistake"...

    ReplyDelete
  27. Well spotted handball in the wall - good decision!

  28. Everybody missed this handball, Ukrainian players too :D

    1. Quite funny indeed! Good décision, PK and YC

  29. When the arm is open and ball would have passed without the touch (no body behind), and referee misses the incident, that's enough for a call, definitely. Clear and obvious mistake, missed incident, it can't be "not enough". Handballs are factual if they happen in this way.

  30. Good performance by the referee and hope to see him in R16 again

    ReplyDelete
  31. I really liked this overall performance by Rapallini! BUT - the penalty for North Macedonia should have instead been a defensive freekick in my view.

    ReplyDelete

    1. Just wanted to check that at the OFR-ed incident the MKD defender wasn't reasonably protecting his face - indeed not, so VERY clear case for intervention according to UEFA's doctrine (definitely c&o for them), very well spotted by the VMOs indeed!

  32. Let's say like this - Chapeau to Rappalini. He showed very high level of officiating. My mark is 8.7. Hope to see him in group stage once more, and in some of knock-out phase matches. From the other side, I asked somewhere can he be appointed for Final if he showed excellent performances. One gentelmans said me not, becouse everybody will say that than Uefa hasn't have enough good referees for final. I sad, If Rosseti call someone to officiate the Euro, every referee have the same chances for the final. It should not be about names and category, its about meritocracy and great officiating. I still think that in case of better performances than Uefa referees, Rappalini can be in Final. Cheers.

    1. However, given that fact that many UEFA referees performed as good as Rappalini in their first match, such as Lahoz, Brych, and possibly Kuipers today, Rappalini will be very difficult to get the final. We will see.

      Delete
    2. Can you see Gil getting the Copa final the other way rond? Im sorry but the max Rappalini should get IMO is a QF. Kuipers, Brych or Mateu are UEFAs options....

      Delete
    3. Yes, I can. As I said, its not about names, its about merit.

      Delete
    4. During the most recent AFC/Concacaf exchange, Al Jassim got a Gold Cup semi-final and Ramos got an AFC Cup semi-final. Also, in the past, Brizio (MEX, Concacaf) was given the CONMEBOL Copa America final, so, in theory, it is possible, but I do not think that UEFA will agree to give a non-UEFA referee more than R16 or maybe QF. It will likely be the same level as Gil Manzano get in Copa America\

      Delete
    5. Everything is possible. Modern sport need great officiating. It's not about does referee call Fernando or Bjorn, or Slavko, it's about excellent officiating. When you are part of Euro officiating roster, you can expect final, if you show great competence.

  33. Manuel Gräfe, referee expert for German broadcaster ZDF, was very happy with Rapallini's performance today and I agree. Having watched the handball again, I must say it was a correct decision. Penalty for MKD was definitely correct too. Attacker of MKD did not endanger his opponent, leg was not stretched but rather angled. Manuel Gräfe said that it was not easy to see on the pitch but it was a very good call.

Rapallini deserves to get a second match.

  34. https://www.goalstube.online/2021/06/ukraine-north-macedonia.html?m=m4 on this link you can hear Mark Clattenburg coment about PK

    ReplyDelete
  35. I totally agree with Clattenburg. This isn’t a penalty. The arm is in a natural position, close to the face, not outstretched. Players may defend the face if the don’t make the body unnatural bigger. And this was the case here. Wrong intervention and wrong decision by the referee to award penalty after the review. This is against the handball spirit we have seen on this EURO so far. Unfortunately this will influence his mark 8.5 / 7.9

    ReplyDelete
  36. Regarding the OFR + PK:
IMO the decision has no alternative. I am basically a fan of the new rules that a defender shouldn't be punished for handballs resulting from natural movements. But in this case, the defender deliberately raises his hand and increases his body surface - this was, however, clearly not a result of his jumping movement - the handling offence cannot be justified by the player's body movement and a penalty has to be whistled.
I praise Hernandez and his collegues for detecting it and advising an OFR - I actually think, it's both: a serious missed incident and a clear and obvious error.
