  1. Cüneyt Cakir will officate his 9th match of UEFA EURO between 2012-2021. This should be a new record.

    1. Yes, he indeed overtakes Anders Frisk (8 matches 1996-2004) today.
Kuipers has 7 at the moment, so still could reach the 9 during this tournament.

  2. Potential hot match for Cakir.. if he manage well next stop will be SF or Final.

  3. Hopefully, it will not be a repeat of his Euro 2016 R16 match Spain-Italy. Good luck, Cuneyt!

  4. Some people are already preparing their 'This is a poor performance, he is going home, no final!!!' speech😊.
But as for me, I wish Mr Cakir the very best.

  5. Always friendly and nice to see Cakir at the toss

  7. Hi guys. Is is true that Lahoz and Turpin already finished euro?

    1. No official info released. We can't confirm this news.

    2. In my country it is said that Lahoz, Turpin, Dias, Grinfield, Ekberg and Kovas already leaved Istambul

      Delete
    3. Ekberg is 4th official right now in Copenhagen.

      Delete
    4. I have to say that today those news have started to appear in Spain too... from the same source that yesterday said the opposite thing.

What we really know at the moment is that the info about Ekberg was not fully correct, and that Grinfeld has left according to his AR.

  16. Did Cakir just play advantage after the possible handball penalty which resulted in a goal?
    If so, wow

    ReplyDelete

    1. I dont think so. The arm is in a natural position. IMO play on is a correct decision. No penalty

      Delete
    2. Never a penalty.

      Delete
    3. It was not punishable handball IMO and he didn’t make advantage gesture.

      Delete
    4. No, he made a gesture that the ball hit the chest

      Delete
    5. I think, the decision correctly was "play on", which is the better decision, because it wasn't a punishable handball and giving advantage there would be rather questionable anyway.

      Delete
    6. Okay, thank you, wasn't able to see it that clearly

      Delete
    7. @Anonymous i meant he didn’t give advantage :)

      Delete
    8. His decision was play on and that was correct decision. There is no advantage in penalty box!

      Delete
    9. There is, what if you get fouled, but still manage to score?
You want a penalty or the goal?

      Delete
    10. That is called delayed whistle. It is possible to do that only if it is 100% obvious that delayed whistle can result in goal scored.

    1. Far from easy. Lots of handball incidents, aggressive play. Refereeing Latin and Balkanic teams is never ever easy.

  21. Really good Çakir in first half and we have to say it was not easy at all.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Perfect first half for cakir. Wish the best for the rest of the game, it is going to be difficult.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Excellent first half performance - if he continues this, then he's sure to be involved in one of the last 3 matches!!

    ReplyDelete
  24. Taylor and Cakir have really been top performers so far.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Great first half for Cakir. Well done!

    ReplyDelete
  26. he's had so many SFs in his career. This time it could be more, the final would be more deserving for him than for kuipers

    ReplyDelete

    1. Agreed. He's in top form. I would say probably the best Cakir in years, clearly making his case for the final.

  27. One of better performances in this EC.

    ReplyDelete
  28. An excellent performance from Cakir. He made his work look easy by being very consistent with his foul selections, with little fuss.

He kept himself very much in the background, which is an hallmark of great refereeing.

Excellently waved off potential pk for Vida's potential handball on 18'. He also waved off a PK for a potential handball against Garcia.

Excellent first half from the veteran Turkish referee.

    ReplyDelete
  29. After yesterday some fans r silence..thats good we can concantrate the match and referee ..

    ReplyDelete
  30. This time I agree with Çakır's fanclub :) His approach is exactly opposite to Brych's one yesterday. Full focus and control, assessing every single incident very carefully what is perfectly visible by his gestures. Quick and sophisticated reactions to even small signs of dissenting behaviour. This is how big games should be handled. If he continues like that in second half, he is the no1 candidate for the final. Well done!

    ReplyDelete
  31. Brilliant performance so far: great foul detection, perfect use of advantage, communication is calm, respectful and clear, body language is confident. Challenging game so far. It is so fulfilling watching an experienced refetee using the right tool for each moment. I wish team Cakir all the best for 2H

    ReplyDelete
  32. @Panterwe

Some people only like to comment only on referee's mistakes. So some of them are waiting patiently for Cakir to make an error so that they can bash and tear him apart.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Cakir casually dropping a 10/10 performance.

    ReplyDelete
  34. I do not think Cakir ever talked so much to the players in his entire career! :)

    ReplyDelete
  35. 2 correct OFFSIDE decisons by Duran and Ongun.

    ReplyDelete
  36. 73' Another good play on decision. No handball. Koke has the arm held to the ground before contact.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Correct YC shown to Brozovic for dissent

    ReplyDelete
  38. I liked Çakır's face when he booked Brozović for protests. Zero tolerance. Not a punishable handbalk, though.
I must say in this tournament I'm watching a very good display from the Turkish.
Maybe in past he had lost some of this "energy"...

  43. He is going yo have a fourth match for sure. Well deserved.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Very very very Proactive Cakir Today

    ReplyDelete
  45. Trust me, if Ronaldo, Bruno Fernandes and Pepe were in this Croatian team today, this match will be have been far more ugly due to loads of play acting, moaning and unnecessary aggression.

Cakir has performed excellently so far, but it must also be said that the players too have largely conducted themselves well.

    1. Please this comment isn’t called for, I try to understand but still can’t, first of all you actually do insult the players you listed above all at what cost ??, just to defend a referee from yesterday that we are all done with from talking about, but decides to bring on a hopeless argument!!! Cakir is handling the match well and just possibly will handle the players you mentioned above well also, so please dead your Felix Brych defense in today’s matches, they are well independent matches, thank You.

  46. Great stoppage of mass confrontation. Very good use of yellow card. Cakir is very focused. I would make him straight to final!

  48. What can I say about Cakir. Love to see him like today. He still is or is again the pure cool elegance, a real master on the field. Congrats!

    ReplyDelete
  49. What a great referee... excellent clear communication skills, perfect foul détection, expérience... Cakir for the final, it’s my choice

    ReplyDelete
  50. Goal line technology! When’s the last time that happened?
Seriously though, I only started watching in the second half, but Cakir might be the best player manager since Jonas Eriksson. He’s always excellent at sensing the temperature of the match and defusing confrontations. Tonight is no exception, and he does well with a heated match, frustrated Croatians and stalling Spanish players.

    ReplyDelete
  51. Players have been focused on playing game, but great moments of refereeing helping the game to flow. Stepping in when needed with great communication. Not the most challenging game but always there when required to keep the game in his hands.

    1/4 or even semi?

  54. I think, delegate Surbatovic is from Serbia, not from Croatia.

    ReplyDelete
  55. 90+5 cakir missed a foul near to penalty area...

    ReplyDelete
  56. Absolute masterclass from Cakir in 90mins - has made a challenging game look effortless. If the observer deducts any marks, I’d love to know what for!

Very calm authority but equally takes no nonsense. Strong body language when needed and I really liked that his ‘warnings’ were actually warnings - he insisted the player listened rather than a token gesture. This is so important if trying to avoid YCs in style of tournament.

YC for dissent was spot on - player publicly running at him to argue. Would have been easy to ignore, as no cards at that point.

YC for persistence was also excellent, well timed and he prevented any issue by running over quickly.

ARs did very well, especially AR1 with excellent tight offside decisions. Bet he was glad of the goal technology, as would have been very difficult to get right with ball in the air and bodies in the way.

For me, faultless so far …

    ReplyDelete
  57. After I heavily critisized Brych yesterday, today IMO an exceptional performance by Cakir. He is extremely alert from the very beginning, always quick with his reactions no matter if we talk about a little bit harder foul, initiation of dissent or a conflict situation, a surpreme body language and many years of experrience of a high level refereeing are on show tonight. Also he fulfilled his obligations and showed the mandatory cards without hiding behind any instructions by the committee. I must admit that I am not his biggest fan but tonight he got all my respect. I didn't want to take away positives from him by comparing with Brych's performance yesterday but I think it is innevitable. The contrast is almost shocking when we remember the lethargic, irresponsible to the safety of the players and insulting to football behaviour of the German. The difference is for everybody to see. Credit where is due to. Well done, Mr. Cakir.

    1. Yes, I have learned a lot from watching Cakir and wished he had gotten higher matches at this year's Champions League, maybe being punished for missed penalty kick call in last year's Barcelona CL game, perhaps unfairly so.

      Delete
    2. Also I would like to add that I always opposed the saying that 'staying in the background' is a good marker for the referee. Cakir's alertness and quick reactions without 'staying in the background' actually added to this madnificent evening of football.

      Delete
  58. Nice performance from Çakir so far, love his alertness

    ReplyDelete
  59. IMO this was the best performance of the tournament as whole referee team. I haven’t seen even a minor mistake from them. He has 30 more minutes for an appointment at Wembley.

    ReplyDelete
  60. As Croatian, I must say that this is best refereeing in our latest history!

  68. I think it is not true to compare Brych and Cakir.

    2. I'm sure even you can do basic maths with the clock in the top corner.

Suppose it's up to you whether you think it's a negative or not. But it seems to be happening more often, where TV shows umpteen replays and still the players are walking back to their own half (there was no VAR review holdup in this case).

  79. Cakir was a real class act for the whole 121 mins. By far the very best of the tournament in a very tricky game. There is no bigger test than this one: top quality teams, aggressive play, lots of possible handball PKs, high pace in extra time. Cakir passed with flying colors. The most competent refereeing display of the season by a mile. If this is not worthy of a Final appointment...

    ReplyDelete
  80. If performance counts, Mr Cakir has all the conditions to be at Wembley on 11th July. What a performance by the whole refereeing team. Masterclass!

    ReplyDelete
  81. IMO the biggest surprises for me in this tournament are Karasev and Siebert. I had an impression that Karasev could never performed well on the pitch, but he really surprised me in this EURO. I may need to say sorry to him because of my bias. For Siebert, he will have tons of opportunities in the future, no doubt.

    1. Karasev deserves a QF appointment. Very focused from the very beginning of Euro.

  82. If I was Rosetti, I would keep Çakır directly for the final. Brych's tournament is over. Orsato and Kuipers are not fit enough and their performances were not the best. There is no need to risk. Çakır deserves it after today's performance. And it's me who was not fully satisfied after his previous performances (especially HUNPOR).

    ReplyDelete
  83. Cakir put on a clinic. Final would be well deserved.

    ReplyDelete
  84. No guys, Cakir won’ get the final unfortunately. Rosetti already decided: it will be one of the 2 Dutchies. But another semi final would already be fantastic for him. Cakir has the most EC games of all referees still active : his career is already exceptional.

  91. By taking the referees performance in this competition only, i have to conclude, that the seven remaining matches (4QF, 2SF, Final) should be refereed by Rapallini, Karasev, Kuipers, Vincic, Cakir, Siebert and Taylor.

    1. It's not about the players. It's about the referees themselves. and CROA-ESP was even more challenging.

    2. You are incorrect. If the players behave, the referee won't get challenged as much or need to do as much.

      Delete
    3. The players in CRO-SPA were also very challenging and actually engaged in much more aggressive play. Point is Çakir is way better than Brych. Btw, it's not my opinion, it is shown by reality and very clearly.

      Delete
    4. hahaha, you make it sound as if a referee doesn't have the tools to better guide a match that is starting to go off course. Now if the referee is stubborn (Brych) and refuses to adapt adjust and overcome. Then he (the referee) failed, not the players.

      Delete
    5. OMG, why some users misunderstand refereeing so much. If not Cakir's excellent prevention and anticipation, many preventative talks and warnings, this game would be more heated than yesterday. You missed it, ignored it or you are simply Brych's fan? The player behaved wildly yesterday because they were allowed to and encouraged by Brych's ignorant style. It's basic refereeing knowledge...
