UEFA EURO 2020 - Referee predictions - Round of 16 (II)

Round of 16, Second part: predictions game about EURO 2020 referees.

You have to guess the exact referee for each game by filling in a form. Just insert your name, or, if you want, a nickname and then for each game just select the referee.  If you have already played for the previous rounds during group stage, please use the same name. We can't ensure too many efforts if you send predictions with a different name than the previously used one. If you are new and you want to have yout first try, you are welcome!

Send your predictions here:
TIME OVER

Due to a too short time before previous games and the release of new appointments we have decided to split Round of 16 in two parts, this is the second one.  Results for all Round of 16 games will be published all together.
The deadline for the second set of games of Round of 16 will be Friday 25 June 2021, 09:59 AM CET. Unless extraordinary announcement by federations the same day a few time before the official releasement by UEFA, in that case of course we couldn't accept your names. So the suggestion is not to wait the very last minutes to avoid troubles. The predictions sent after that (official time will be checked) will not be accepted in any case.

Points will be assigned according to the following pattern:
10 points for having guessed the exact referee of a match
5 points if a guessed referee for a game will be appointed as fourth official
2 points if a guessed referee is appointed in the other game with the winners meeting on the next round*
1 point if a referee is appointed for the same round

* = 1) BUCHAREST 28 JUNE PAIRED WITH COPENHAGEN 28 JUNE
2) SEVILLE 27 JUNE PAIRED WITH LONDON 26 JUNE
3) BUDAPEST 27 JUNE PAIRED WITH AMSTERDAM 26 JUNE
4) GLASGOW 29 JUNE PAIRED WITH LONDON 29 JUNE

  1. Watching the draw we could have ITA-SPA and GER-NED which ruled out in one shot Mateu, Kuipers and Brych plus Makkelie and Orsato. terrible

    1. Why it shoul be terrible? There are more referees which can handle the final game.

      Delete
    2. But those are the one that the committee has the most trust in. Under normal circumstances one of them would definitely get the final.

      Delete
    3. Italy - Spain could have both Brych, Kuipers and Makkelie. Germany - Netherlands can have Lahoz and Orsato. If those teams progress form the QF there is no way UEFA will release all of those referees

      Delete
  2. ENG-GER and POR-BEL are the best R16 matches.

    1. If all big names are doing R16, who will be left for QF, besides Makkelie?
Also, would the support duos be retained after the group stage?
Finally, there is no R16 at Copa America. If the agreement is that Rapallini and Gil Manzano will get another match, at the same level, it will be QF.

    2. I had in my mind for a QF Vincic, Makkelie, Orsato and Taylor. Semifinals for Mateu/Cakir/Brych

  4. Off topic but I want to know if there is a possibility of FIFA adding or subtracting to the list of Pre selected referees for next years World Cup? The list was made since 2019 if I am not mistaken and a lot has happened and changed since then especially at UEFA levels so is there a possibility?

    2. Agree with Jules. POR-BEL and ENG-GER are the most high-profile games of R16. If Siebert gets POR-BEL then being an elite ref means absolutely nothing. What Rosetti did to Kovacs was bad enough.

    Copa America Brazil vs Columbia

The ball hit Nestor Pitana, but possession didn't change so Pitana allow play to continue. However, a was then scored which angered the Columbians.

IMO, Pitana's decision is correct becasue

    - DID NOT start a promising attack or (the ball went towards halfline, not towards goalline after hitting Pitana)
    - DID NOT go directly into the goal or
    - the team in possession of the ball DID NOT change

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. My only doubt is. If the Brazilian pass attempt doesn't hit Pitana. Is it intercepted by the Colombian player who is directly behind Pitana?

The fact that Pitana disconnects from active play by turning his back on the play and that he overtly gestures as if he's going to blow his whistle. Add these two together and he unfortunately had Colombian's who lost focus and relaxed.

I'm not surprised that Pitana was eventually struck by the ball. He adopted a lazy approach throughout the match by mostly staying central. It was bound to happen and it happened at the worst possible moment for him.

  19. I think, if you just go by performance, it is not that difficult to choose the 12 referees for the knockout phase:
    (in alphabetical order)
    1 Brych
    2 Cakir
    3 Hategan
    4 Karasev
    5 Kuipers
    6 Makkelie
    7 Lahoz
    8 Oliver
    9 Rapallini
    10 Siebert
    11 Taylor
    12 Vincic
(Kovacs was decent, but with only one game...)

However the UEFA I know, will rather go with the following:
    1 Brych
    2 Cakir
    3 Del Cerro Grande
    4 Hategan
    5 Karasev
    6 Kuipers
    7 Makkelie
    8 Lahoz
    9 Orsato
    10 Soares Dias
    11 Taylor
    12 Vincic

  20. Kuipers for the final isn’t realistic. To be honest, it’s not his tournament. In Denmark he wasn’t convincing and yesterday he missed an obvious penalty. His fitness in both matches weren’t that good and his foul detection neither. Last two years, in particular this season, he isn’t at his best (Juventus - Porto, PSG - Manchester City). It’s clear that Brych is performing better and without any issues this tournament. I think a QF will be the max for Kuipers.

  21. No appointment at the expected time for 26/06 games.
I can guess commitee waited for all teams qualified to make further analysis. Maybe we will have Saturday's assignments later.

  22. Going by performances Lahoz / Turpin / Kuipers / Orsato and Del Grande should be saying cheerio today, however, as part of Rossetti’s ‘favoured few’ they’ll stick around and some other decent referees will be saying goodbyes!!

    1. Kuipers (and even orsato) wasnt as bad as the 3 others you mentioned who performance wise definetely should be going home

    2. I don't see Kuipers or Lahoz leaving before the Knockouts. Turpin is probably gone though. Not sure about Orsato.

    3. Wow, many people on here are very eager to be negative about Kuipers. The way I see it he had two very solid games. Yes, it would have been better if he didn't need that OFR yesterday, but it was very well-managed, did not influence his grip on the game and the right decision was taken in the end. Maybe we should consider that we have higher standards for Kuipers since we are getting used to his very consistent, very high level.

I think Kuipers is still no. 1 candidate for the final. He is the best referee and he didn't make any big mistakes. I agree that Brych is his most important competitor. Might also depend on what Germany and Holland will do in the next couple of games.

      Delete
  23. One of the top matches is Belgium - Portugal and there are not much options for Rosetti..

Brych, Kuipers, Lahoz and Taylor all whistled one of the teams in the GS. Makkelie is not possible because of Portugal, Turpin is out because of the performance principle and the winner could face Italy so Orsato is out as well.

I would say the only options are Cakir and Hategan.

    1. Cakir,Rapallini and maybe Oliver

    2. But is it really a hard rule that you can't whistle the same team twice? I feel like Taylor would be absolutely awesome for this match.

  24. WAL - DEN: Karasev

  25. Siebert for WAL-DEN and Taylor for ITA-AUT!

  26. To be honest, there were so many good performances through the whole group stages, I think it's really difficult to predict. Yes there were some performances that perhaps lived up to the high standards we have seen, but no one really had a shocker IMHO. There will be a couple of referees that just due to the number of appointments left that will be disappointed and will stick with just 2 games - but they can be pleased with their overall performances (Karasev & Rappalini spring to mind perhaps).
I somehow can't see Turpin, Orsato or Lahoz leaving at this stage personally even though we can pretty much agree that the penalty to France was widely agreed as wrong. whilst Orsato and Turpin didn't have the performances in-line with other's in the tournament.
Brych hasn't been tested yet, I would expect to see him in a big game this round.
    So I'll go with
    ITA v AUS: Vinic
    WAL v DEN: Del Grande
    NED v C REP: Turpin
    BEL v POR: Oliver
    CRO v SPA: Hategan
    FRA v SWI: Brych
    ENG v GER: Kuipers
    SWE v UKR: Soares Dias

    QF's
    Taylor, Makkelie, Lahoz & Orsato

SF's & Final: Kuipers, Cakir, Brych
