Good luck to Mr Taylor and his team, hopefully he will have a good game after a few poor performances in european football
ReplyDeleteGood YC to FIN8 (reckless tackle)
ReplyDeleteIf we are strict, missed YC in 2' for a stamp on the foot. Good YC for a reckless tackle in 4'. We can surely expect an intense game. Challenging start for Taylor.
ReplyDeleteWell done, the quick YC.
ReplyDeleteAnd IMO missed YC on 10' for Danish attacker, not an easy start for Taylor.
ReplyDeleteI agree! After having played the ball Christensen hit his opponent with studs on shin. Taylor must have missed the scene as he didn’t even whistle it. A mandatory YC I think.
DeleteIt's a YC in theory, i.e. in a RAP, I think.
DeleteBut in the game situation, nobody expected it.
For me the only card to issue, was the one in 4', which Taylor showed.
ReplyDeleteFor sure this match will be more difficult than the one in the early afternoon: we have been seeing it.
Well done till now by English team.
Possible red card for denmark for pulling when player was through on goal
ReplyDeleteYes, but I think, the defender's actions were just tolerable. And one should only make the DOGSO-RC call there for clear fouls.
DeleteNo foul IMO, it was clearly within the bounds of tolerable action.
DeleteLooking forward to everyone saying Taylor should be sent home because he made the technical mistake of restarting with a DFK to the Finnish keeper after the stoppage for a head injury instead of a dropped ball.
ReplyDeleteWell i hope not because that is something so small and hasn't affected the match so far
DeleteSarcasm. It was sarcasm.
DeleteMy point was to compare it to Steegstra's mistake yesterday.
He whistled the body contact by Poulssen...
DeleteArw you sure he did not actually award a DFK to the defending team? I believe he "found" a foul committed by Danish player pushing the two Finnish players into each other.
DeleteExactly that was the decision. Restart was correct.
DeleteApparently no one here is any fun.
DeleteAlso, to the point... WAS there any true body contact by Poulsen? If we want to litigate whether Poulsen committed a foul or not, now we're talking about a potential ghost foul that might have taken away an OGSO (presuming the head injury wasn't called).
My point here was that this was a nothing incident that was probably a technical mistake. Again, similar to yesterday. It was to poke fun at those who were ridiculously saying Makkelie's trio needed to be sent home. It was not to actually criticize Taylor in any way whatsoever. Sorry if anyone was incapable of processing that.
Usaref, we were definitely capable to process that, but the difference is that calling offside at a corner kick is a technical mistake against LOTG, while calling a "ghost foul" is not a technical mistake. I have no problem with either call and got your sarcasm; just wanted to point out that you cannot compare them because only one of them was a technical mistake. That's all.
DeleteUgly scenes, I think game must be suspended. Unbelievable. All the best for Eriksen.
ReplyDeleteVery serious incident. Game will surely be abandoned
ReplyDeleteI do not want to speak about the match anymore. This game simply can't continue. Taylor did everything to allow fast medical treatment, I hope it came early enough.
ReplyDeleteOh my god...
ReplyDeleteOh my God... :(
ReplyDeleteWhat exactly happened to Erkisen, can anyone explain how he went down
ReplyDeleteNo explanation. He just went down, no one touched him or anything.
DeleteThe ball came towards him and he just fell. It appeared he was receiving CPR. It would be irresponsible to speculate further
DeleteMatch has been suspended ! UEFA confirms on Twitter
ReplyDeletehttps://twitter.com/UEFA/status/1403758240295424007
DeleteGame is postponed by UEFA right now, this is what commentators said in Romania.
ReplyDeleteWhat an awful situation, you saw his wife pitch-side, lets pray the resuscitation was therr fast enough. 1 or 2 min of not breathing. Oh my god, pray for him
ReplyDeleteAt this moment, the match result is the least important. All the best to Eriksen.
ReplyDeleteI'm definitely shocked, I want to wish the best to Eriksen, nothing more. Talking about football now is a nonsense, hopefully UEFA will suspend the competition.
ReplyDeleteHopefully this photo is good news -
ReplyDeletehttps://pbs.twimg.com/media/E3sqXmcXIAExyvE?format=jpg&name=medium
Well definitely gives a bit of hope
DeleteBut I remember Antonio Puerta of Sevilla FC in 2007, he collapsed during a match, he could walk off to the dressing room by his own feet after being reanimated but 3 days later died in hospital.
Hopefully Eriksen survives, everything else is more than secundary now. I'm praying despite not being religious.
UEFA on Twitter:
ReplyDeleteFollowing the medical emergency involving Denmark’s player Christian Eriksen, a crisis meeting has taken place with both teams and match officials and further information will be communicated at 19:45 CET.
The player has been transferred to the hospital and has been stabilised.
https://twitter.com/UEFA/status/1403765507682193409?s=19
DeleteEncouraging news regarding Christian - lets hope he recovers fully. Watching it live was incredibly distressing and prayers go to him and his family.
ReplyDeletePuts everything into perspective.
News is as positive as we can hope....in Canada, they cut to ESPN coverage. Nice to hear Mark clattenberg, comments. And steve mcmanaman. They are excellent speakera, much better than tsn
ReplyDeleteLooks like we have positive news, I'm relieved! To be honest, thinking back to what had happened, it was very difficult to imagine something like that. But in my opinion game should be postponed and maybe also this evening's BEL - RUS.
ReplyDeleteNo way that DEN-FIN is not abandoned.
DeleteI think that BEL-RUS will be played though
I agree with you Chefren... both matches should be postponed and dealt with at a later time. Whether that's tomorrow, Monday, or whenever.
DeleteAs a human I totally agree with you Chefren. I’m aftrain that the money machine / business side of this competition is demanding something different. And they will play Bel-Rus. Den-Fin than tomorrow before the first match?
DeleteWe’ve seen in the past a lot of examples of the show must go on. In CL or other competitions.
Official statement from Denmark : “Christian Eriksen is AWAKE and is undergoing further examinations at Rigshospitalet”.
ReplyDeleteRESPECT TO ALL THOSE MEDICAL STAFF, THE PLAYERS & THE REFEREE FOR BEING THERE FOR ERKISEN. Red heartRaising hands
LET'S KEEP PRAYING FOR ERKISEN'S SPEEDY RECOVERY.
Dutch radio NPO Radio 1 spoke with the manager of Eriksen. The mangers spoke the father of Eriksen. He confirmed eriksen is breathing and talking
ReplyDeleteI keep thanking God that it was a dead ball situation and play wasn’t far from him and he be isolated.....
ReplyDeleteDon't forget to congratulate Anthony Taylor for this amazing responsiveness. He somehow saved Erikssen's life. All my thoughts for Danish people and Erikssen's family...
ReplyDelete100% Agree !
DeleteThere was a similar incident in the Premier League many years ago. Howard Webb was the referee and writes about it in his book. I think all PGMOL referees were taught about it and how to respond. Probably contributed to Taylor's quick response.
DeleteBBC News confirmed the above regarding Christian which is very good news and that the BELv RUS game will go ahead
ReplyDeleteDEN-FIN goes ahead... resumed at 20:30 CET. Wow, I'm shocked but I guess that it's only because there are good news re: Eriksen's health.
ReplyDeleteStadium speaker announced that the March DEN-FIN will be restarted.
ReplyDeleteMoney first! Players last!
Addition, Dutch tv mentioned that the players want to play on. Let’s hope it s a free choice.
DeleteAll the best for Erikssen! And good luck for team Taylor with such emotions.
Following the request made by players of both teams, UEFA has agreed to restart the match between Denmark and Finland tonight at 20:30 CET (TBC).
ReplyDeleteThe last four minutes of the first half will be played, there will then be a 5-minute half-time break followed by the second half.
STRONGLY DISAGREE WITH UEFA. This is absolutely terrible.
Players wanted to return to the game, according to UEFA, but I don't know how much this can be true.
100% Agree ! For me, the game should be restarted an other day (tomorrow, monday or tuesday for example).
DeleteWell. The players wanted to resume yesterday after the ultimatum from UEFA. Play yesterday and today. This is according to the manager of Denmark at the press conference. There was no way the Danish playeres would play today after possibly a night without sleep.
Deletehttps://twitter.com/UEFA/status/1403775827104370696
ReplyDeleteThe match will continue from 8:30 p.m. ! Incredible !
Wow that is incredible!
ReplyDeletePlayers asked themselves to be resumed... but I'm very surprised. I think postponing it to tomorrow or something was more appropriate.
ReplyDeleteWell. The players wanted to resume yesterday after the ultimatum from UEFA. Play yesterday and today. This is according to the manager of Denmark at the press conference. There was no way the Danish playeres would play today after possibly a night without sleep.
DeleteI guess that they will be played at the same time.
ReplyDeleteGame will resume at 2030 CET
ReplyDeleteGerman broadcaster got the information that Danish players could speak with Eriksen via FaceTime and he wanted them to play. I think we should accept and respect his wish, although everyone of us feels uncomfortable with resuming the match.
ReplyDeleteFrom Dutch TV, where a Danish analyst is in the studio:
ReplyDelete"Danish players have had contact with Christian Eriksen, where Eriksen told his teammates to continue the match"
Source: head of Danish FA
Good call for the PK there. Knee caught the Denmark player's ankle as the Finland player tried to pull out of the tackle.
ReplyDeleteCorrect penalty decision by Taylor. Contact initiated by the defender's knee. Not easy to see on the pitch, slight delay but good decision.
ReplyDeleteI agree I think it was a penalty and correct decision. I did however think that it would have went to VAR for confirmation…, or maybe my interpretation of VAR is different.
DeleteYes, Taylor got it right, but the reactions of Finish players made me think VAR would have been involved.
I agree I think it was a penalty and correct decision. I did however think that it would have went to VAR for confirmation…, or maybe my interpretation of VAR is different.
DeleteYes, Taylor got it right, but the reactions of Finish players made me think VAR would have been involved.
VAR, of course, was involved. They would have checked it, seen the contact that brought Poulsen down and sent down "check complete"
DeleteHm, I am not convinced, that the contact was enough to justify the player going down. Does such a small contact really qualify as tripping?
ReplyDeleteSoft penalty in my opinion.
Yeah an absolutely soft penalty, but I think contact was justified and penalty is supportable here.
DeleteI don't even think it was a "soft" contact. You could see that a clear contact caused the fall. So, for me it is a mandatory penalty decision.
DeleteUnder very particular conditions, I think Taylor did a good job in this 2H. Good decision on the penalty awarded, IMO the contact is relevant and has to be punished.
ReplyDeleteAnyway, the most important is that Eriksen is alive and in a stable state. That's only what matters in my eyes after this game.
Taylor did a good job. Not faultless but very professional considering the sad circumstances. Correct penalty given for Denmark. We can only be relieved that Eriksen is "fine", let's hope his state of health will remain stable. Hope he will recover soon!
ReplyDeleteFor me a solid performance by Taylor, a 50/50 PK, 2 missed YC, but very good communication and dealing with the crisis was excellent.
ReplyDeleteNow watched the penalty assigned by Taylor, I agree with Philipp's opnion, the player fell in a very easy way and the contact is not that significant. However, for sure VAR must support and never a mistake.
ReplyDeleteIn my eyes, rahter a wrong decision by Taylor, but this doesn't matter for sure. It was a very delicate game and now the only thing we should look at is Eriksen's health.
I praise Taylor and all the medical staff for having acted with quickness.
Come on, would you be able to continue running if you were hit by knee on the ankle? I doubt it. 100% penalty. In case of no penalty at real time, VAR intervention would've been mandatory.
DeleteThe penalty:
Deletehttps://streamja.com/Q3pB4
IMO correct decision by Taylor.
DeleteSame here, correct decision. The clear knee contact was enough to make the player fall and lose his ability to play the ball.
DeleteThis game showed us that we shouldn't determine if the game will be challenging before the first whistle. I read that Taylor got the worse today's game. And what? The game was the most enjoyable to watch and the most challenging for the referee who had to be fully alert from 1' to 90'. Moreover, Anthony Taylor delivered the best performance so far, free of controversy. Well done!
ReplyDelete@Chefren -- whoever is doing the highlights for the writeup of this match, is it possible to get the full set of replays for that penalty included? Possibly even as a separate clip?
ReplyDeletehttps://streamja.com/Q3pB4
DeleteThanks a ton, much appreciated!
DeleteI just realize that Bo Karlsson who will turn 72 this year is still active. Aren't there any age restrictions any more also for UEFA observers?
ReplyDeleteIndeed this was something I wanted to ask as well.
DeleteIt looked like he had retired (no appearances as UEFA observer by a long time) but then now he returned back for EURO.
For what I know, age limit for observers and other UEFA match officials is 70, so I don't know. Maybe some broken rules for this tournament...
hey chefren, from what i know is, that uefa officials are always appointed for two- or even three-year cycle. i think it is from congress to congress or so. in that case you are lucky, if congress is on the 13/6 and you turn 70 on 14/6, because then you would get the full two years. i think with the pandemic the congress was moved. as i have mentioned elsewhere, lots of observer-legends are very likely to retire after this euro. and i think it is just fair to give them also a great farewell in this tournament, that marks hopefully the beginning of "back to normal".
Deleteand to peter: i think observer age limit is still 70, or as mentioned above, you finish with the cycle in which you turn 70. for other officials, i dont think there is any limit. look at sepp blatter, he was i think 82 or even 83 when he was stepping down from fifa-presidency...
DeleteThank you for this remark, indeed this makes absolutely sense.
DeleteKarlsson date of birth is 12 October 1949, so in case EURO had been played on June 2020, he would have been allowed to attend the tournament as very last step of his career, so the explanation seems the one you mentioned. Considering EURO 2020 part of 2019/20 Season, following the postponement for COVID.
Regarding the penalty, I personally strongly disagree, when such scenes are deemed as "soft" or "easy" PK.
ReplyDeleteIMO the defender loses position and then goes in the duel too late. He hits the attacker with the knee at the foot. The contact definetly seems to be the reason for the attacker's falling. I honestly don't see a reason to overcomplicate things here.
That being said, I'd like to wish Eriksen a quick recovery and all the best for his family in this unbelievably hard time!
Fully agree, Filip. Indeed, I respect everyone's opinion but I wouldn't consider the penalty decision as "soft" either. There is a clearly visible contact with the knee and the fall looks natural. For me a good example for a careless tackle.
DeleteGiving penalties such as the one awarded today by Anthony Taylor will KILL football.
ReplyDeleteFootball is a CONTACT sport, and therefore, NOT all contacts are a foul.
10years ago, Poulsen would have been booked for simulation for going down as he did.
Unfortunately, we are in the era of awarding micro-contact as modern day penalties.
I'm glad Anthony was NOT in charge of the opening game yesterday, as he would have awarded Italy & Turkey each a 'modern day' pens for incidents that are very similar to the one in this match.
PS: Since last season, Taylor & Micheal Oliver have become VERY notorious for awarding "soft modern day pens". In d PL, they awarded the MOST pens. And most of them were VERY VERY soft indeed.
IMO, these two referees are both bad for the game.
Sorry, but... are you serious?
DeleteYes.
DeleteThe penalty appeared soft - but the knee contact caused the player to lose his chance at playing the ball. It had direct incidence on the player's ability to play the ball. That is absolutely enough for a penalty to be called.
DeleteAnonymous - Im sorry but your opinion about both English referees are not that of UEFA.
DeleteIt was a penalty!
