Minute 8' now we have the first situation in which we will understand more about VAR. Clear penalty to be whistled to Netherlands.
ReplyDeleteFast and correct procedure, that's how VAR should work. Great intervention!
DeleteMust be a penalty + YC. OFR for stamp on the foot.
ReplyDeleteCorrect VAR intervention. Grinfeeld could and should have seen it on the pitch, it was a blatant step on the foot. No input by AR1 too. First OFR for which we have to blame the referee.
Delete2nd OFR of today
ReplyDeleteSecond OFR of the tournament, penalty check (stamp)
ReplyDeleteOFR so soon in the game. I feel sad for Grinfeld
ReplyDeleteCorrect intervention for PK.
ReplyDeleteWhy is that sad. It seem that you think that a OFR is bad voor a ref.
DeleteIt is definitely not!
Clear mistake by Grinfeeld, but correct intervention and On Field Review.
ReplyDeleteVery intense start of the game, I think that this was the most challenging start of a game also in terms of physical condition for a referee so far. The penalty could have been reported by AR1, maybe, correct VAR intervention. This was a very clear situation.
ReplyDeleteVery poor performance for grinfeld, low level for the uero
DeleteIn 10', correct PK after OFR. Efficient VAR procedure, but he could have seen it himself.
ReplyDeleteIn 14', supportable YC against NED no. 5 issued.
Now correct YC for reckless challenge in 14'. Very intensive first 15 mins, Grinfeeld doesn't have a moment to rest.
ReplyDeleteAnother caution already, this time for De Roon. Could be a tough game for Grinfeeld.
ReplyDeleteIMO that penalty should have been given live. It was not very difficult.
ReplyDeleteI suppose that Grinfeeld just want to see what VAR thinks, becouse Var is very Reliable, so he just wait. In other conditions without VAR, I think he would call the penalty.
ReplyDeleteThere is no such refereeing management.
DeleteYou have absolutely wrong ideas about how a referee should officiate a game with VAR. Try to say that to Rosetti and wait for the answer...
DeleteMissed YC in 39
ReplyDeleteVery calm demeanor by Grinfeeld.
ReplyDeleteGrinfeld with a intense first half of the first half. Personally I have the feeling that he is saved with the goal for the Netherlands. They took it easier from than. I am not sure if he can keep control if and when the match heatens up again.
ReplyDeleteTo avoid that he should have given a yellow card for the Austrian player at the side line making a foul to Dutch nr 17 after the ball was away. Now players don’t know where the line is and how far they can go.
Curious to the 2md half.
Choppy end to the 1H, Grinfeld couldn't really guide the players towards fair play with his decisions, let's see how the 2H goes.
ReplyDeleteIn my opinion grinfeld should control the game. He is far away from the ball more than 25 m. He didnt read the game of the Austrian team and let them to play supporting. Grinfeld should be the ref on the pitch and not spectator only.
ReplyDeleteI think he will live the uero after today.
I'm very sad for him
After TUR-ITA (handball by Turkish player) Van Boekel got only AVAR appointments. Cab we think Grinfeeld will get only 4th Official appointment?
ReplyDeleteBlom*
DeleteOh sorry! My mistake. Yes i meant Kevin Blom
DeleteI think this tournament is very big on the israeli ref.low level and low performance. He cant take big decision by himself. Unfortunately he will be max 4th in this tournament or will go home. He is nominated to the Olympic game in Tokyo...
DeleteMissed YC for De Jong IMO. I think that's reckless.
ReplyDeleteClear yellow card in 63'm . For reckless n - 27. Only foul from grinfeld. It's clear mistake. He should control the game and control the players.
ReplyDeleteVery good onside by AR2. Well done!
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely correct YC for dissent. I don‘t understand why players behave like this when they know exactly that the goal is checked immediately.
ReplyDeleteYC for dissent by goalkeeper now after good onside by AR2
ReplyDeleteNot level for uero he will live.
ReplyDeleteThank God he will not die.
Deletelegendary comment :)
DeleteCorrect decision from Ar2 onside. Very good call for the second goal
ReplyDeletePoor evening for the israeli ref. Thanks to Ar2 he save the black night for grinfeld
ReplyDeleteA good evening for the Israeli ref. Will get another game for sure
ReplyDeleteIts joke ... after 3 clear yelow card the ref didn't give, dont control the game and the players, dont protect the players, cant take the big decision in big tournament. No more than 4th
DeleteFor me this is clearly the first performance that truely only should mean a ticket back to Isreal/ only 4th offical appointments. This performance is below par with a crucial mistake corrected by VAR. Clear 7.8. Cerro could be backer regarding decisions made, altough at was max 8.1/2 level. For this performance there is no backing possible for me.
ReplyDeleteAs expected, Grinfeld is having a FANTASTIC game so far.
ReplyDeleteHe has helped in calming the tense & potentially fiesty & unsporting behavior of some players, without over-refereeing the game.
Fantastic YC for unwise dissent from Austria's GK.
Some may accuse him of missing d PK in real time, but I think that criticism will be extremely harsh.
This is bcos d foul happened so fast & the contact was only clearly visible from one angle, which only VAR could pick up.
That's why we have VAR though. In this case, VAR helped the referee to have a 2nd view of the incident which initially occurred in Grinfeld's blind side.
A good calm approach by the Israeli ref should ensure he gets another game. Always had the game completely under control and didnt feel the need to dish out unnecessary yellow cards. I like his style
ReplyDeleteHis performance is not on elite level. Not showing personality, no preventive actions and in communication zero. Central positioning and almost all the time walking. For sure this will be his first and last match.
ReplyDeleteClear yelow card missed for osteian player in 94' for elbow as tool not weapon. He should wait for the signal from the Var and not whistle to the end only after the check is finish. Another mistake
ReplyDeleteOk, guys, I'll take it like this. From beggining of Euro 2020 I speak about highest level of officiating, and best officiating at Euro ever. Far away from media, just experts speak about officiating. Due to high level of officiating, Orel performance tonight was very good, not excellent. His game management was correct, he choose leninet style with great physical performances(better than Kuipers today). He relay on Var on 10 minute, most important is that his call for penalty was ok. He tried to prevent yellow cards, giving them only when it is necessary. Performance like this guarantee that he will have second game. Rosseti is again winner, after this day, and again officiating will not be in centre . It will be so hard to select 12 trios for knock out phase matches, due to, I repeat, extremely high standard of officiating at this Euro. Cheers, enjoy in Euro 2020 and officiating at the same.
ReplyDeleteWhat are the comments on the blog tonight? :D
ReplyDeleteDecent performance by Grinfeld, I love his elegant presence on the FoP, besides some minutes at the 1H's end, the Israeli managed the match effectively.
Poor game for the fer
DeleteI am having a lot of doubts tonight. In the first tense part of the game you Grinfeld in trouble. The game managed him instead of Grinfeld managing the game. After the first Dutch goal things calmed down. Was this because of him, or because of the players. I am not 100% convinced that it was the succes of Grinfeld.
DeleteIn the end; nothing with big errors happens. A lot of small things to improve. And that’s why I having doubts if he should get a 2nd match in the KO phase. A low profile match one md3 should be oke.
I am not convinced by Grinfeeld's performance and style. Despite a few errors in foul detection I saw a total lack of personality. I couldn't see any communication with the players, once he even closed his eyes when they came protesting.
ReplyDeleteI cannot understand all this bad comments. The referee was not perfect of course but far away from „poor“ or „this was his last match for sure“. Do some people just have a problem wirh Grinfeld?
ReplyDeleteMe neither!
DeleteSadly, I honestly think some of the negative comments and asking for him to go home are based the refs nationality. Just the world we live in today
DeleteAgreed, I strongly suspect that (at least) one Anonymous was making purely political comments.
DeleteWell...I liked the decent voice of this blog in earlier times...
ReplyDeleteAbout Grinfeld: one must say that there were better performances. Problems in foul detection and that obvious penalty which was actually the first one which easily should have been given in the FoP.
In the end nothing too bad, but I think it shouldn‘t be a KO phase for him. I think he‘ll have one more at MD3
A very poor performance regarding foul detection. Even if one can understand the missed foul resulting in penalty after OFR, it should've been seen at real time. The amount of missed (minor but still) incidents in 18', 37', 43', 47' and 59' is shocking at this level. Furthermore, no action against unsporting character of fouls in 31', 39' and 47'. No action against blatant delaying the restart in 56' is something we got used to at this tournament... He wasn't able to communicate with players in a decent manner, very authoritarian. I think we won't see Orel again at this EURO. :/
ReplyDeleteWell, reading all the comments, I sometimes wonder where this blog has gone.
ReplyDeleteIf I look at his performance, I see a referee who did an okay job. No big problems, except from the penalty he missed and shouldn't have missed. But I also think he wasn't the referee with the greatest acceptance on the pitch in a mostly friendly match. I found him a bit unpredicatable. So in short - just a fine performance, no big problems, but I don't think he will get into the KO stage. If there is a match in which no decisions need to be taken anymore, he can take charge of that without problems, but the first OFR for a mistake that he should have prevented should mean something, and in general I think it's a good experience for him, this EURO, but that it may come a bit soon if we look at his development. Okay job, I'd say 7.8 / 8.2, not great, not bad, just okay.
First time watching this ref. Matched manner to tournament - calm, low-key. Good YC for dissent.
ReplyDeletePK really should have been spotted in real time - think this was on his mind for some time afterwards.
Seemed fit but seemed to get caught flat- footed / too far away a few times, chasing play rather than anticipating.
The deliberate, cynical block (‘31) should have been a YC and I think this affected his control slightly at end of half.
How committee see a missed clear PK which needed VAR intervention + couple of missed YC (in the context of a very strong performance level so far) will be interesting. Next generation of refs need tournament experience - surely it’s too far to say he absolutely shouldn’t have a second game. There are more than enough games for everyone to have two (bar major controversy/issue).
Worth noting - VAR has been great so far. Not intrusive at all, quick & efficient when needed. Exactly as it should be!
I just rewatched the penalty incident. Of course clear foul by Alaba. What comes to my mind is the simulation of NED6 right before the accident slightly out of the penalty area. Rapallini showed a YC for simulation in the afternoon game and i wonder if that is also an option here. YC for simulation on NED6, IFK for AUstria (and YC for the foul to ALaba). Anyway i think that an explanation for Grinfeld not whistling the penalty "live" was the quit clear simulation just a seconde before.
ReplyDeleteIt's a very good point. Is the simulation before the PK-foul not a clear infringement from Netherlands? I would be interested in Chefren, Mikael and other's oppinions!
DeleteI think, you are theoretically correct, that the dive is an infringement in the APP and therefore relevant for the VAR. But maybe one can discuss, whether it was clear enough, or could also be considered as involuntary fall.
DeletePractically, nearly nobody expected such a call and it would be seen as quite weird by the broader public, I think.
