  1. Fitting match and deserved assignment for Sikazwe.
I foresee a match in which the lesser skilled Panama resorts to constant and methodical fouling to try to disrupt and stop the Belgian flow of play. Something that Sikazwe must be alert to.

    1. Yes a very physical way of playing Panama has... Considering Panama is still an unknown commodity at the highest stage, it is may be wise to put a trustworthy name like Sikazwe in it!

    2. I agree, we could see the first red car of the tournament here

  2. They should start cautioning players like Mertens for that kind of blatant simulations.

    ReplyDelete
  3. imo blatant dive there from the belgium player.

    ReplyDelete
  4. YC to Mertens for simulation was possible, there.

    ReplyDelete
  5. No YC needed for something that can be managed with verbal warning... That's what FIFA wants and so it's unfair for us to criticise referees for that :)

    ReplyDelete
  6. Totally wrong first YC here.

    ReplyDelete
  7. Now wrong YC. Don't know why.

    ReplyDelete
  8. 3-4 fouls commited by Meunier,deserved YC

    ReplyDelete
  9. To me it looked like Mertens tripped, not dived. Wrong YC

  10. 13. minute: Great YC for a hit in the stomage.

    1. + there was a verbal warning against Nr. 15 Belgium 45 sec before he got the YC!

      Delete
  11. First YC was wrong, but second YC absolutely correct decision

  12. YC Meunier 14.min much too hard. Sikazwe fighting for authority - but simply destroying the flow of the game by whistling too much.
    2nd YC Davis was necessary.
Sikazwe seems to be much afraid of losing control. But he doesn't have to. Hope he wins self-consciousness during the game.

  13. 27 min missed YC Murillo , tactical foul.

    1. Last doubts:
      Satō reserve referee?
      Bascuñán reserve referee?
      What about Karasev?

      Delete
    2. Bascunan I think will remain reserve only... I hope same happens with Karasev... Sato I hope he gets at least one game on the pitch as AFC always had 4 spots and last time 4 AFC refs shared 8 group matches between them!

  15. It seems that Sikazwe "found himself" now. Hope so. Clear decisions and better body language. Positioning sometimes wrong.

  16. Unexpected 0-0 at the end of first half, I must say Sikazwe is having a maybe more challenging game than what committee expected.

    ReplyDelete
  17. One more correct YC Gomez PAN 45min. Well done.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Panama won't end the match with 11 players, I think.

    ReplyDelete
  19. 2 more YC against Panama begin of 2nd half. Fully deserved. When they continue like that they will hardly all finish the game.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Panama coach having a good go at Sato asking for YCs for Belgium players but Sato calmly manages the situation!!

  21. Many, many cards being issued by Sikazwe. I‘m not really convinced, yet.

    ReplyDelete
  22. IMO wrong YC for Vertonghen, not even a foul.

    ReplyDelete
  23. 2 more. 1 PAN for permanent discussing. One (after advantage, well done) BEL/ tactical foul. Both correct. It's up to the players to avoid more cards by following the rules. It really is so easy!

    ReplyDelete
  24. Offside check by VAR before Belgium 2-0... No problems!

    ReplyDelete
  25. 86': for unknown reason, an attack by Panama was stopped.

    1. Wrongly called offside I think.

      Delete
    2. I fear he signalled offside... the camera focused on the AR a few seconds after play was stopped.

      Delete
    3. Sikazwe indicated by visually pointing to his raised arm that he had whistled for an offside offense. Which would be wrong for two reasons. 1. The Panamanian player was clearly onside and 2. The last "intentional" touch came off a Belgian player.

      Delete
  26. 88': definitely a SFP by De Bruyne, unbelievable to give only YC without VAR intervention.

    1. I'm completely confused and lost in regards to the whole VAR experiment. I've yet to find any type of similar line for implementation and use in the games that have been played so far. We have the case of certain VAR's correctly interjecting themselves and ultimately getting the calls right. While we have other who have refused to make themselves heard. Or at least that is what I am lead to believe. Since most of have no idea in regards to what if any communication there are between the referee's and the VAR's.

      Delete
  27. ”88 crystal clear red card should have been issued. No argument for s yellow there. De Jong all over again from 2010.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Victor, I agree, here the only explanation is that when referees see the incidents by themselves and they give a certain card, VAR seems to be not entitled to intervene, despite a clear crucial mistake. What do you think?
      I'm nevertheless shocked.

      Delete
    2. Niko, Webb gave a yellow and Webb was wrong and admitted it too. With VAR it’s really jut unacceptable to not intervene.

      Delete
    3. IMO YC is enough here, red card should've been too heavy

      Delete
    4. Yes YC is the call everyone wants here... Cakir incident with Nani comes to mind... Here there was very less force too so absolutely YC... No way any VAR could intervene there!

      Delete
    5. DeBruyne plants his studs into the Panamanian's midsection without even attempting to pull out of the challenge. I'd understand yellow is DeBruyne has actually tried to either put out of the challenge. As Victor said, this a De Jong 2010 type of challenge all over again. Only difference being that the contact was in the midsection and not middle of the chest.

      Delete
    6. At the moment, where the first contact happens between studs and stomach, it is clearly only a YC for me, because it is a upwards (and not forward) movement of the foot in the direction of the ball.
But then afterwards, the foot is pushing into the stomach for a short moment. This make me tend to RC as the better decision. But as it probably was not intentional and not avoidable, not a clear error.
And nobody was expecting a RC or asking for it on the pitch - another argument against VAR intervention, because then it hardly can be an obvious mistake.

    7. 88' - YC De Bruyne
      https://streamable.com/asedj

I'm sorry, but if this is not a clear red card offence, I don't know what is. It is a studs-up tackle, he touches his opponent in the stomach and once he touches the stomach, he presses his foot in his opponent's stomach. Clear SFP, clear RC, de Bruyne is endangering the safety of the opponent and Dankert had to invite Sikazwe to review the incident. No explanations why VAR did not intervene here!

      Delete
    8. YC is a good decision. De Bruyne's studs catch the Panamanian player in the stomach, it was attention-getting but it was not brutal. Plus, it was not deliberate.

      Delete
    9. "Not brutal"
Not exactly the term I'd like to see taken in to consideration in regards to a referee's decision making.
      "No foul. Not brutal enough"
      "No card. Not brutal enough"
Sounds pretty farcical to. But that's just my opinion. Much like bones don't have to be broken nor does blood have to be gushing in order to prove that a player's physical well being was indeed endangered.

      Delete
    10. I've never said such thing. Make sure you interpret my words correctly. When I use the word "brutal" I mean De Bruyne did not act aggressively in the sense of a violent behaviour intended to harm the opponent. If you take a careful look at De Bruyne's challenge, he tries to catch the ball but fails to do so, inadvertently catching the Panamanian player in the stomach.

      Delete
    11. Yet DeBruyne is solely responsible for his actions. Much like DeJong was responsible for his. Most of the things we whistle are done accidentally. Yet we still whistle them as fouls. However in this case the foot/studs are put a level of the body of an opponent where they don't belong. This is football not Tae Kwon Do where you're expected to target the opponents upper body.

  28. 8 bookings,plenty of bad fouls todaym

  29. I would love to hear opinions about De Bruyne's foul at 88? Studs-open, hits the stomach of his opponent. I would tend to RC, Sikazwe said YC. No VR intervention.

    ReplyDelete
  30. And in the end one completely wrong offside call and a correct YC ag. De Bruyne ...
Average performance after better 2nd half.

    ReplyDelete
  31. De Bruyne's attack was not necessarily red - for me it was more an accident than wanted. I follow Sikazwe and team.

    ReplyDelete
  32. In my opinion, RC is not mandatory. Force was rather low, so was the hitting point. Nobody expected a RC, YC is okay.

    1. By the way, I‘m sure FIFA will back or prefer the decision that was made by Sikazwe. Overall an okayish performance.

  33. Sikazwe looked to me the most calm referee till now.

    1. Faghani was also calm and also Ricci.

    2. Pitana was calm, Kuipers was calm, Cakir was calm, Cunha was calm, Gassama was calm and also Aguilar

    3. Of course, but `the most` is the key.
I mean he was totally uninterested when showing cards.

  34. Sikazwe did a good impression in my book. He was nervous from time to time and it's understandable when making a WC debut.

I can't disagree with any of the cautions not even with the 88' incident which seems on the orange area.

    1. Yes technically you are right. Nervousness might be, but we are at a World Cup. You must control your emotions during the 90 minutes. I remember a statement of Irmatov many times ago, in a newspaper, or even AFC.com. He said referees from outside Europe and Latin America are technically on a similar level, but their big problem is a lack of confidence. Sikazwe displayed this today, in my humblest opinion. With more confidence, he would not let pedantic line and many cards speak in the first 20 minutes. Still, he can today be happy and sleep well - overall good performance.
