  1. Very excited to watch him in action... He is a steady referee in general!

  2. Shukralla in yellow kit today and whatever little hair he had are all gone for today at least :D

  3. Didn't know Shukralla lost his hair :O

    1. Hasn't lost it fully yet... He's just clean shaven today :D

  4. Having long hair seems to impact assignments?

  5. Interesting to listen the field draw, one part of the coin was "coca-cola" haha

  6. Good tight call by AR2 in 6’. Follows FIFA instruction and keeps the flag down.

    ReplyDelete
  7. Good YC for POL #10.He was pulling down SEN player off the ball.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. The YC was actually probably for the second foul and the tactical nature of the foul. The initial pull just makes a stronger case for the caution.

      Delete
  8. Correct YC. I wish he would be more firm with the player though, who simply ignored him and forced him to follow him.

    ReplyDelete
  9. First YC of the game, correct: however Shukralla made the courtesy of waiting the player to rise up before showing the card, problem was that pllayer deliberately tried to go away without looking at referee... not good to be watched, but not so many faults for referee here.

    1. I agree Chefren, but at least he showed the card while the player was watching. We see so many cards even in champions league where referees book players that are looking or walking the other way

  10. Is this an early candidate for one of the most boring games of the tournament?

    1. I don't think that this game will be more boring than yesterdays SWE-KOR and the 2nd half of TUN-ENG :)

      Delete
    2. Tunisia v England wasn't really too poor quality football so it was okay to watch... But Sweden v South Korea and this Poland v Senegal is a bit poor quality of football... Not too interesting to watch!

      Delete
    3. Sweden Korea, Iran Morocco and Egypt Urugay were more boring than this

      Delete
    4. Sweden v Korea was low quality football yes... Morocco v Iran was poor football but there was a heated atmosphere so that made it slightly interesting... Egypt v Uruguay was slow but the quality of football wasn't too bad hence slightly interesting... This one isn't great quality of football plus also not too intense but I think 2nd half can be interesting!

      Delete
    5. IMO quality of football is better here then in EGY URU plus the pace of the game is better, although not very good

      Delete
    6. This is a matter of taste, IMO the actual match is quite interesting to watch.

      Delete
    7. Yeah that's for sure... Varies from person to person... Overall this match is pretty much at par with Egypt v Uruguay now I agree... Sometimes I do enjoy watching this so-called unpredictable and lesser known teams than traditional big teams... There is a different excitement in that although football quality may not always be the greatest!

  11. What about the challenge in the 23rd minute (another replay was shown in the 37th minute). The contact between feet is outside the penalty area but there was also contact between thighs inside the box. Shukrallah played an advantage.

  12. I'm watching Shukralla for the first time carefully and I really like his body language.

    1. Same here! I think he is doing a really good job managing players.

  13. Was that a missed second YC for POL#10?

    ReplyDelete
  14. Correct decision now - YC for SPA. No DOGSO.

    1. Mr Shukralla is one good manager.
His decision selling abilty is very good!

      Delete
    2. That's why he has made it to his 2nd World Cup... Steady and safe pair of hands from Asia!

      Delete
    3. I also like his approach. Before the begining of the 2nd half he was talking with players, smiling.

      Psychology...

      Delete
    4. Yes he is perceived to be a very friendly person here... All our Asian guys are friendly people... Faghani may be a little more strict on the pitch than others but still finds the time for the occasional smile :)

      Delete
    5. When you mentioned Faghani, he looks like the Bolywood movie star :)
      (That's good)

  15. Absolutely clear, correct, good communication, authority - I am absolutely convinced so far. A positive surprise for me.

  16. I am also positively surprised.

    1. I'm not surprised as he was pretty decent in 2014 also but now I'm convinced he can make an even better campaign than in Brazil... Really, experience has no substitute and Shukralla is showing that!

  17. What a decision to let player get back on the pitch, few seconds later he scored a goal coz of defender mistake.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I mean defender didnt even notice him.

      Delete
    2. Aauuuuuuu.... what a bad management.

      Delete
    3. Needs to be analyzed, but my first impression is that he waved him in, when the ball still was in the other half (and in Polish possession). So I don't think, that it was a wrong choice.

      Delete
    4. 59:48 is where the signal comes.

      Delete
    5. The signal came when the ball was still in Senegal’s half but Senegal had just “won” possession by way of a header.

      Delete
    6. I thought it was totally justifiable to let him back on the pitch. The ball was in the center in front of Senegal’s box, far away from the formerly injured player.
The Polish player not paying attention...tough luck.

      Delete
  18. As good as I expected him to be. Bravo so far!
Polish players arguing after the 0-2. Perhaps because Niang had entered the pitch early?

    ReplyDelete
  19. Interesting situation before the goal. Was the player allowed to enter the pitch? Was there a visible signal or just a signal via headset by Shukralla?

    2. 59:49
The moment when Shukralla allowed player to enter the pitch.
In that moment, the ball was on the other half, SEN player played the ball and after that Polish defender made a mistake.

  20. Shukralla has been mobbed and Senegalese players have placed their hands upon him. Yet zero mention of that until now. However yesterday, it's was one of many things that quite a few of you crucified Roldan for. That's why I come the conclusion that I don't come to the blog for any sort of credible or serious Referee conversation. It's more of a comedic gaggle of opinions from people who try to pass off as "knowledgeable" Referee's.

    4. Roldan was so class apart that he went up to a Tunisian player while chewing gum and then "placed his hand" on the Tunisian player and turned him around :D

      Delete
    5. So we have one good comedy here, thanks for the contribution.

    6. @DrMr I think more of a lawyer of the North American referees and particularly Mexico... CONCACAF specialist with further specialisation on Mexico! :D

  21. The best player management/communication/soft skills I've seen at this tournament so far. A very convincing Nawaf Shukralla!

  23. Praises for AR2, his movement and sprint are incredible.

    ReplyDelete
  24. 85 Why not give YC for simulation?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Apparently are instructions from FIFA.

      Delete
    2. People, some things are repeated in every single match.
Diving won't be sanctioned that much in this tournament.
It's clear that referees have that instruction

      Delete
  25. Sorry, but I don't understand those FIFA instructions. That dive deserved a YC, no matter what.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Ask Pl. Collina or Busacca :) They may be able to explain :)

      Delete
  26. Missed YC. He was not sure and asked VAR.

    ReplyDelete

    1. He delay the whistle, didn' ask VAR :)

  27. Perfect onside by AR2 - What a performance by whole team !

    ReplyDelete
  28. What happened in the penalty appeal by Senegal? I really didn't understand. It looked like there was a VAR decision but without the official gesture.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. VAR checking. Confirmed there was no penalty.

      Delete
    2. Just a check. Shukralla‘s decision was backed.

      Delete
    3. Thanks. Since we didn't see any YC for simulation by all referees, this should be indeed a guideline by committee.
No YC if not in case of very blatant dive...

      Delete
  29. 4 minutes seem too little for me.

    ReplyDelete
  30. One more time about the 2nd SEN goal: The first thing I learned as a referee was that we need to feel the game... I needed many years to manage that. This was the worse moment on the tournament so far. Communication between the referee and the 4th official should prevent this situation to happen. To bad for Shukralla that he hadn't had enough experience to predict that situation will go down the hill. This was a disaster.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. What's so big a problem with that? Doesn't seem to be any mistake in LOTG application or is it ?

      Delete
    2. So he should’ve predicted that the Polish defender would’ve made such a defensive blunder? He gave the signal way before the goal was scored.

      Delete
    3. 'This was a disaster.'

      Sorry but you are overreacting

      Delete
    4. To make myself clear: By the LOTG everything is ok.
But, as a referee, there are some things that you never do, because you will put yourself into a problem .
For example, you to do not drop the ball in front of the goal, because someone will take advantage of the situation (that is why the laws are updated now, and you have that 2 attackers need to touch the ball after the drop ball).
Also, you do not allow the player to come back to the game if that will give the advantage to one team.
There are some things you just don't do, and that will come with experience.

      Delete
    5. I strongly disagree the ball was in a neutral position when the ref allowed the sen player on

      Delete
    6. I can respectfully understand your view. As a referee with two decades on the field, trust me, some things you just do not do. You never put your self to be in the center of attention, and that is what happened today. Unlucky, Shukralla did just that, with this situation assessment.

      Delete
  31. I understand that main ref didnt see that dive and didnt whistle anything, but can he on suggestion from VAR refs book SEN player?

    ReplyDelete
  32. Very good refereeing overall. Well managed, good rapport with players, very fit. Some controversies though:
    - was the foul on Błaszczykowski outside or inside the penalty area (23')
    https://vimeo.com/275867299

    - was there an obligatory 2nd YC to Krychowiak missed (45')
    https://vimeo.com/275867918

Nothing wrong with allowing Senegalese player to enter the pitch prior to 0-2 goal. Here is the exact moment of that:
    https://twitter.com/h_demboveac/status/1009114457333817344

The referee couldn't have anticipated how things will evolve in next seconds. The ball was in a neutral area for allowing the player to enter the pitch.

Missed YC for a dive is most likely a matter of instructions given to referees by FIFA...

    Well done, referees!

    1. He will get a 2nd match surely

      Delete
    2. 23m-away from goal right outside box. no controversy

      Delete
    3. Feet - yes. But what about thighs?

      Delete
  33. Overall I was impressed. Very good performance.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Excellent performance. Modern, athletic, elegant referee. Respected and smiling, it is important. I hope to see him again on the pitch, a wonderful surprise.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. agree with all you say. Well done ref! The only thing I would like Mr Shukralla to do more: be quicker in communicating with his body language (e.g. hand signals) that he is certain there was no foul. By doing so, the players don’t even get the chance to think ”did the referee miss that one?”

      Delete
    2. Missed yellow for simulation

      Delete
    3. There will be no YCs for this type of cases victor!

      Delete
  35. Matchday 1 is over, expect for tomorrow a short analysis about refereeing. I think that we can be overall satisfied.

    1. Agree. It is a joy coming to work everyday and hear your work colleagues praising the referees (that is not always the case...). But football lovers, who are not referees, seem to appreciate both VAR and the whistling men on the pitch.

  36. Dear Chefren, I'll anticipate you. The most outstanding are the performances of Pitana, Marciniak, Faghani and Shukralla.

    ReplyDelete

    1. I would add Cunha. He was really good, imo.

      Delete
    2. For me best performances of first rounds are Marciniak, Faghani and Cunha

      Delete
    3. Marciniak in the list of best performers... Ummm, interesting!

      Delete
  37. Yes RayHD, agree, in my opinion just below the other 4

    ReplyDelete
  38. Solid performance by Shukralla. Excellent fitness allowing him to follow play very closely. Good card management. Dive wasn't quite clear live, so no card is okay. We'll certainly see him again.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Absolutely convincing in my view so far: Pitana, Cakir, Cunha, Gassama, Marciniak, Ricci, Faghani, Shukrallah.
Not enough for 2nd game for me: Rocchi, Diedhiou, Roldan.

GET OUT OF FINANCIAL MESS WITH THE HELP OF drbenjaminfinance@gmail.com

I have been in financial mess for the past months, I’m a single mum with kids to look after. My name is REBECCA MICHAELSON, and am from Ridley Park, Pennsylvania. A couple of weeks ago My friend visited me and along our discussion she told me about DR BENJAMIN OWEN FINANCE of drbenjaminfinance@gmail.com that he can help me out of my financial situation, I never believed cause I have spend so much money on different loan lenders who did nothing other than running away with my money. She advised, I gave it a try because she and some of her colleagues were rescued too by this Godsent lender with loans to revive their dying businesses and paying off bills. so I mailed him and explain all about my financial situation and therefore took me through the loan process which was very brief and easy. After that my loan application worth $278,000.00USD was granted, all i did was to follow the processing and be cooperative and today I am a proud business owner sharing the testimony of God-sent Lender. You can as well reach him through the Company Email drbenjaminfinance@gmail.com
