  2. Correct me if i am wrong but this is first game for Valeri since BRA SUI, and only as AVAR3. Maybe that is some signal by FIFA about their assessment of that goal situation

    1. Possible but of course we can't be sure. Let's see whether he will get another game as Main VAR. This maybe will say more about that.

    2. On the other hand Geiger has been appointed again after ARG-ISL. So no consequences for him from the penalty situation (as expected).

      Delete
    3. So might be possible that Geiger asked Marciniak about a review and Marciniak declined as according to him he saw it clearly???

      Delete
    4. Well, there are two options. One is that what you are saying, that Geiger recommended review and Marciniak declined. Other option is that no penalty decision was not assessed as wrong one neither by Geiger nor by RefCom

      Delete
    5. The probability of the 2nd one must be less... That was a pretty clear penalty!

      Delete
    6. Another possibility is that the decision was assessed as wrong, but there are no consequences for this decision. It could be more important for FIFA to appoint teams that worked together at the training sessions than punish someone for a missed penalty. Indeed, the small amount of VARs plays a role, too. I don‘t expect any punishment for VARs even in case of wrongly assessed incidents.

      Delete
    7. Even if it's a missed penalty, Marciniak's overall performance was quite positive so definitely a 2nd game was coming... Whether Germany v Sweden is deserved or not is another debate!

    1. William Young is quite an important observer (friend of Dallas since years), he is in Gibraltar to watch four referees:
      Paul McLaughlin IRL
      Jørgen Daugbjerg Burchardt DEN
      Manfredas Lukjančukas LTU
João Carlos dos Santos Capela POR

Also Krondl for Christopher Jäger AUT, is quite interesting IMO.

The rest are regular I think.

    2. Can someone please find the corect appoinment in the europa league preliminary round 2 in the match with the swedish refereeing team(Karlsson) team? The person reported as AR1 dosn’t exist on top level.
Also funny to see ekberg as FO

    3. It's the appointment published in the official UEFA database. Maybe it's Peter Magnusson, but Peter Allheim is the name officially published there.

  4. Another OT:

Spain is leading the group B now for having seen 1 yellow card less than Portugal, that highlights the importance of yellow cards in this kind of tournaments!

  5. OT, about ESP-IRI:

A member of Iran NT press staff had to be taken to hospital after VAR intervention to confirm the goal was correctly disallowed.

Good start for something big :)

    3. I'm very disappointed... He deserved Germany v Sweden :(

      Delete
    4. It's smarter to appoint him for not so 'big' match.
Remember Germany-Portugal 4 years ago, good performance but a lot of media attention after the match...
It seems that FIFA learned something from that.

    5. You're right actually plus Sweden isn't thaaaaaat big a team so understandable that Mazic isn't mandatory! And nice to appoint Marciniak in a game that will be challenging as it's the last chance for Germany!

    1. Very, very important match for Marciniak. This means that the penalty incident was assessed as supportable or correct. Given this appointment, we can expect something more in case of a good performance...

      Delete
    2. It's really difficult to understand how that penalty was evaluated as correct... But overall Marciniak was very good in all other aspects so a 2nd appointment was almost certain... Probably I would have preferred swapping Mazic and Marciniak but it's ok!

      Delete
    3. I think it was correct not to give that penalty to ARG. A physical contact in football is allowed and not always punishable - we all here know that. And on top of that Marciniak as a former football player has the game feeling and does not accept when players overuse incidents with physical contact in the penalty area to pretend it was tougher than it really was.

      Delete
  11. Marciniak appointed to Germany v Sweden... That means the no penalty call was evaluated as supportable at least... Shocking!

    1. I had already said that if you take the whole game under review, you will see an excellent performance with many crucial situations, it is normal that one case, among others, can't make a big difference.

      Delete
    2. Of course Marciniak would get a 2nd game but I would have swapped Marciniak and Mazic!

    3. I have the impression that you do not like Marciniak. Experts' opinions about PK for Argentina are very different, and even more often I have heard positive opinions about his decision.

      Delete
    4. In my opinion, the penalty decision was wrong! How does it make a difference whether I like Marciniak or not? I've repeatedly said that irrespective of whether the penalty was correct or not, his overall performance was totally positive and good... Probably you didn't see that!

  13. Excellent second appointment for Marciniak.
Mazic starts, if you ask me, with a rather low profile game, based on what I was expecting for him, but still crucial for both teams.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. South Korea v Mexico might offer poor quality of football but will be most probably challenging in terms of fouls etc so maybe a not so bad appointment for Mazic... Marciniak will be more comfortable and familiar with Germany v Sweden so he can do well!

    1. Excellent intervention by Mark Geiger... Good from Mateu Lahoz to accept the advise!

  18. I want to underline how quick it was... very good process, again, VAR work is excellent there. We must praise the preparation of referees.

    ReplyDelete

    1. Mateu took about 5 seconds to view it in the monitor and call it... Quick, simple and clear process!

    2. Praise VAR but also Lahoz for listening to them. He clearly said no penalty but was brave and good to his colleagues to listen to them when they said he should watch the replay.

    3. This situation reminds me of missed penalty 8 years ago on the match Australia-Serbia:

      Your thoughts?

      Delete
    4. This gives the impression that Mark Geiger intervened in ARG-ISL also but his advice was not taken! It was always a bit tough to believe that Geiger didn't intervene when the clear penalty was missed!

  19. Poulsen and conceding VAR penalties, name a better combo!

  21. YC for Poulsen was not necessary because the ball was not directed to goal

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. If it was directed to goal, won't it be a RC?

      Delete
    2. Not from that distance and when you have the keeper there

      Delete
    3. Only if it was denying a obvious goal. Which it wasn't.

Toward goal? Yes. Denying an obvious goal? No.

      Delete
    4. Fully agree with Victor

      Delete
    5. Nope. Only if the player would clearly deny a goal. I also thought the yellow card was not necessary in this case as the header didn't go on target.

      Delete
    6. In my opinion YC not mandatory in this case, but not wrong as well. Grey area. It wasn't a shot on goal, but we could still talk about a possible promising attack stopped.
However, without a teammate who is clearly ready to receive the ball, better to whistle only the foul.

      Delete
    7. I see... In the Skomina situation that was obviously denying an obvious goal!

      Delete
    8. Handling when shot (header in this case) is TOWARD goal is YC -- Futuro III pretty clear on this. As such YC correct here.

      Delete
  22. The only significant situation of first half was the penalty.
Apart from that, nothing... expected level for Mateu?

    ReplyDelete

    1. Yes... Other than missed penalty, absolutely steady!

      Delete
    2. In terms of refereeing yes

      Delete
    3. Yes, so far an easy game. Mateu provides also a good flow to the game.

      Delete
  23. Urs Meier on German TV says it's no penalty as it wasn't intentional. But I feel like he's taking any chance to criticize referees nowadays.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Unnatural position is the problem here, not the intention

      Delete
    2. My thoughts exactly. That he did not mention. But despite his career, nowadays I wouldn't listen to what he says.

      Delete
    3. Issue is he deliberately raised his arm. That’s why it’s a foul. Deliberate act with the arm.

      Delete
    4. When Meier was referee on the pitch, it wasn't for sure the same football, especially in terms of refereeing, that we have today, although not so many years have passed. Possible that he is not aware of the recent guidelines about handballs... said with all the respect of course.

      Delete
    5. If we accept Meier's point of view, then the Colombian players' handball in Colombia v Japan was never deliberate in the true meaning of the word... But as Chefren says protocols are much different then only that!

      Delete
  24. Poulsen is first player in this WC to miss a game because of 2 YCs

    ReplyDelete
  25. I'm getting more and more tired with all those late challenges that involve players stepping on the other players foot that never get carded. (Rogic, 60')

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. +1, mandatory YC missing there

      Delete
    2. That is making me angry more and more, too... FIFA must give the order to the refs to watch those fouls much better and give YCs if there is no try to play the ball!

      Delete
  26. I have a question... Before the VAR penalty decision, we could clearly see Mateu waving play on and saying no penalty... So did Mateu miss the handball completely or he saw it and decided as undeliberate? As per protocols, VAR can intervene in either case and a review may be there as long as Mateu accepts the advise!

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. The handball wad clear IMO, just look at the direction of the ball.
      Mateu decided it wasn't deliberalety...

      Delete
    2. I don't really see how does that matter. And probably it would only turn out if you would listen the communication system. ;)

      Delete
    3. "Wrongly seen" or "missed"? These two different concepts are indeed very important for VAR assessment. It is also possible that Mateu thought ball had touched another part of the body and not the arm.

      Delete
    4. @Chefren That's exactly what I meant... If Mateu missed it completely he had to go and watch the monitor for sure on VAR advice but if he saw it and thought not deliberate then he was well within his rights to say that he has seen it clearly and thus decline the pitchside review request... But of course VAR can intervene in both cases but how the referee recieves it can be different in both situations... If Mateu saw that and interpreted it as undeliberate initially and then took the VAR advice to review and overturn then much credit to him... We potentially had situations where referees rejected VAR advice so credit to Mateu where it's due! Either way it was an excellent application of VAR!!

    1. Reason was not shown here (missed by broadcaster).
Some sites report that it was for dissent.

    2. Few players were included in dissent, Lahoz picked Sisto for YC

  29. 1 missed YC and some little mistakes incl. 1 obvious missed free kick 89 min for AUS in dangerous position. Average performance by Mateu-Lahoz.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. This was an expected level performance... Just a missed free kick can't make it average!

      Delete
  30. Mateu is really inconsistent with his foul detection in the second half and I think he missed 2 yellow cards at least. Way too lenient, but full acceptance from the players.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Sorry my friend, but I don't know why we are still speaking about missed yellow cards on this WC.

      Delete
    2. Haha you are right, still I think two obvious ones missed. And he could avoid Sisto's yellow if just 10 seconds before for same holding he gaves freekick to denmark. But anyhow I think MAteu is on expected level, and great player management. Good to see smiling players and smiling Mateu :)

  31. 12 fouls in this game, for sure a record so far and maybe it will remain for the whole tournament. Impossible to whistle less fouls than that.

  33. Which is your opinion on Cornelius shirt pulling inside penalty box? Several people complaining on forums that if he would have dived VAR would have intervened (I suppose it intervened anyway)

    ReplyDelete
  34. Well, if the minimum of detected fouls is the result of bad foul detection and some of those missed fouls were enough for YC - for me at least one, may be 2 - and ref did not recognize the handball-PK with best view to the situation, I cannot see his performance as expected level. And that in a match which was not challenging more than average.

    ReplyDelete
  35. About the handball-PK: According to the actual interpretation of the rules the PK was mandatory, BUT the outcome of these interpretation is clearly unfair. These interpretation should be corrected in a way, that only intentional handplay (hand/arm moves towards the ball) is punished - like in former times. Punishing s.th. the player himself did not want and what happened by chance is a violation of the principle of fairness!

A couple of weeks ago My friend visited me and along our discussion she told me about DR BENJAMIN OWEN FINANCE of drbenjaminfinance@gmail.com that he can help me out of my financial situation, I never believed cause I have spend so much money on different loan lenders who did nothing other than running away with my money. She advised, I gave it a try because she and some of her colleagues were rescued too by this Godsent lender with loans to revive their dying businesses and paying off bills. so I mailed him and explain all about my financial situation and therefore took me through the loan process which was very brief and easy. After that my loan application worth $278,000.00USD was granted, all i did was to follow the processing and be cooperative and today I am a proud business owner sharing the testimony of God-sent Lender.
