  1. Okay, so first of all: Great performance overall.

But I have some questions about the disciplinary management:

YC for Matuidi in 75': Was that for dissent? Haven't seen what happened there.

90'+1: Blatant dissent by Mercado, screaming at the assistant. Mandatory YC.

90'+3: Who made the original foul - would have been at least YC, but I would prefer a RC for that. Whoever shot the ball at the French player: YC as well. FIFA says Otamendi was booked, I hope he was the one who made the foul. No card for that one would have been a big mistake in my book.

YC for Giroud: Was that for dissent or for being so very prominent in the clash?

    1. Clear red to shoot full force at a player after a whistle.

    2. Video of the confrontation:

      https://streamable.com/b1631

Looks like Mercado (ARG #2) committed the foul.

Looks like Giroud (FRA #9) caution is for showing ARG #3.

    3. YC for Mercado
      YC for Giroud
      RC for Otamendi
(very possible it's YC for FIFA )

    4. Merchado did the foul, had been booked befire and should get 2nd YC for the foul. Clear error - Faghani missed it.
In the following mass confrontation bad positioning. Should get outside the middle , watch and then book consequently.
All in all he lost disciplinary line and control in the end. At least 2 missed mandat.2nd YCs Merchado and Mascherano. In case of Merchado may be even direct RC. But considering the very challenging match still 8.3 for me.

    5. Okay. Foul by Mercade. NO card is a huge mistake, I'm sorry. Brutal tackle, you can leave that unpunished. Especially if you punish Giroud for his participation, which seemed mild compared to the Argentine actions.

    6. @Andrasch: Mercado wasn't booked before, although he should have been.

    7. Thx. German comment. told he was but he was not. What a joke.

  2. Sometimes it sounds like he has swallowed his whistle :)

  3. I cant blame a referee for one mistake in added time. Remember, who showed us refereeing masterclass today!

    ReplyDelete
  4. Faghani is a good referee. But someone needs to tell him he really overuses the whistle. He blows 6-7 times for 1 foul.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. He seems to love using his whistle

      Delete
    2. I tried my best, but it seems like he does not listen to me ;-)

      Delete
    3. During the mass confrontation I counted 27 whistles during the first 20 seconds. Honestly that’s too much.

      Delete
    4. Asian referees tend to rely a lot either on their whistle or on their cards!!

      Delete
    5. Things to be improved:
      Whistle usage plus POSITIONING

I know, he is fantastic referee but he must improve his movement on the field.

    6. I am feeling in case of a Brazil v France SF, Faghani will be a shoe-in for the semi-final match!

  5. I agree with Benoit Auguste:

'For FIFA, you can shoot violently the ball against a player fallen on the pitch. That’s not Faghani issue, it’s clearly FIFA shame. Congratulations to the Iran ref.'

    1. I don't think FIFA accepts anything and everything... Remember we still have 0.7% wrong decisions! ;)

  6. For whom observed essentially the football of the two teams: Mr. Faghani was very very well. Appeared whenever necessary, "was not there" in the rest of the match.

    > 8.5

  7. I would add, just as very important point for discussion, that Faghani was coming from another challenging game officiated three days ago. Indeed, I think in the last minutes today he was also tired for that.

    ReplyDelete

    1. Bravo! That was also on my mind.

Maybe he could rest and prepare physicly but there wasn't much time for the mental rest.

    2. In my opinion, Faghani made a solid performance, 8.4 or more. But I don't know why he uses the whistle like a train conductor, he could be a big poster child for Trenitalia! :D

      Delete
    3. Only 2 days between the 2 games... From the very onset that was my only concern about this appointment!

      Delete
  8. A point about his AR's: They haven't had a lot of decisions to do today but they did some preventive measures to stop mass confrontations, specially AR1
What I've noticed for both of them is that they don't use sidestepping at all. Because of thay they are running a few steps late almost always. Yours opinions about this?

    ReplyDelete
  9. Well, I agree that Faghani is a very good referee, but I disagree that he is the only choice for potential semifinal between Brazil and France or for the final. If somebody thinks that Geiger or Ramos is not suitable for matches like this, he is wrong. They both are at least on the same level like Faghani, and of course there are more solid referees like Ricci, Pitana, Rocchi or Kuipers...

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Ramos can't be on the same level, just because of the one thing- experiance!

      Delete
    2. If Faghani wasn't good, he could look up to Geiger but since Faghani has been good we don't need to consider it... Plus IMO Geiger isn't for such big games... Ramos in 2022 will be a candidate for all such matches but now it will be too early and a huge risk plus I'm 100% sure that the Brazilian federation will veto him!

      Delete
    3. "Geiger isn't for such big games", why do you think that? I don't remember one game with bad performance by Geiger, he was also great in U20 WC Final in 2011. There is no reason to say that he is not for such big games.

      Delete
    4. It's because I don't rate him as highly as Faghani... You see Confederations Cup appointments last year... Geiger got 2 group stage matches involving Australia, Germany and New Zealand, Portugal and Faghani got 1 group game between Germany and Chile and semi-final between Portugal and Chile... You can clearly see whom FIFA rates higher!

      Delete
    5. Well, I don't think FIFA has always correct opinion. Lots of things are influenced by policy. My personal opinion is Geiger is not worse referee than Faghani.

      Delete
    6. I think in this instance they have a correct opinion!

      Delete
  10. In my opinion Sweden-Switzerland for Ricci, Colombia-England for Geiger or Irmatov.
Then we will have an UEFA for the 3rd quarter, Irmatov or Geiger in case of Uruguay-France (otherwise POR-FRA for an UEFA)...

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I hope no Irmatov for the well-being of players!

      Delete
    2. My predictions :

Sweden v Switzerland : Damir Skomina (Slovenia)

Colombia v England : Mark Geiger (United States)

  11. I have to say something aboout Argentina and their players.
These Argentinian players throughout whole tournament played very dirty, all their matches (except maybe vs.Iceland)were really hard to officiate.
Irmatov had problem with their dirty fouls and their temper,Cakir had to deal with their protests, not so much dirty fouls and Faghani had total package today.
How they did not get a RC in these 3 matches is something I cant understand.

I understand their passion for the game, but come on,I mean Otamendi did kick the ball at opponet while they were on the floor not once, but twice,Mercado wasnt even booked today for that dangerous foul at the end or even for insulting referee.
I can go on and on,even Sampaoli's behaviour was not good, always protesting and leaving his area.

If that is their way to play the game then maybe they should swith to UFC or something else because that is mot the way to play football.

    1. Agree 100%. A red card absolutely changes the course of a game ad refs always "think" twice especially in emotionally charged games, but in cases of dangerous/dirty play there shouldn't be any doubts

      Delete
    2. Well, you heard yesterday from Collina. The reason why there are so small amount of red cards is because their behviour is better... and not because some obvious cards were not issued. (I am sarcastic now :) )
But I agree, probably one of the dirtiest team in this competition. And they show clear missing of respect to other players or officials..

      Delete
    3. Have ARG players any time in football history played different?
They play hard and sometimes cross the boarders. Sort if boarderliner-football...
What I really dislike about them is that they are not able to accept being defeated. Neary in every tournament same trouble with them im the end.

  12. So I watched it from an overhead camera perspective and it seemes Matuidi was booked after saying a few words over quite a distance to Otamendi. Didn't seem to be notable though, so I'm surprised Faghani pulled out a YC for that - especially since we had cases of dissent that were far worse (at least appeared to be). No idea what he saw/heard there.

    1. Here it has been reported that he had asked for booking the opponent, nevertheless I share your same feelings as we saw many worse attitudes by players in almost all games...

      Delete
    2. Didn't look like that at all. He said something to Otamendi over quite some distance, who made the "you talk too much" gesture. Faghani was close by, but Matuidi never looked at him or said sth towards him - at least he did not turn his head in any way indicating something like that.

Would be really interested to know what will be listed in Faghan's match report. Would it count as "unsporting behaviour" or sth like that?

And, yes, definitely way worse attitude by players, especially in this game.

      Delete
  13. Plus it looked like Mercado hitted Umtiti at the end, but not clear view.

    ReplyDelete
  14. Otamendi commits the exact same act of violent conduct in two different matches. Yet he leaves the World Cup with only two cautions to show for his despicable acts. Yay "directives"! Yay "guidelines"! Boo, Laws of the Game. ;)

    ReplyDelete
  15. Nobody saw that during the mass confrontation Giroud CLEARLY struck his hand in an Argentina's number 3's face? Violent conduct.

I have been in financial mess for the past months, I’m a single mum with kids to look after. My name is REBECCA MICHAELSON, and am from Ridley Park, Pennsylvania. A couple of weeks ago My friend visited me and along our discussion she told me about DR BENJAMIN OWEN FINANCE of drbenjaminfinance@gmail.com that he can help me out of my financial situation, I never believed cause I have spend so much money on different loan lenders who did nothing other than running away with my money. She advised, I gave it a try because she and some of her colleagues were rescued too by this Godsent lender with loans to revive their dying businesses and paying off bills. so I mailed him and explain all about my financial situation and therefore took me through the loan process which was very brief and easy.
