  1. Mohammed Abdulla Mohamed (UAE): the big surprise. Absolutely unexpected to me.
So, Sato is not considered as main referee, but the man from UAE will take charge of a game. Surprising. Of course, basically it is a replacement for Al Mirdasi, maybe for this reason the refeere had to come from a certain country... I don't know.
Will be more than interesting to see him, I can't wait for this game.

    1. Very risky appointment... Geiger could've easily got this game and Mohammed could've got Portugal v Morocco... I hope we don't see a repeat of Cesar Ramos!!

    2. I agree that switching Mohammed and Geiger would have been sensible and I also expected Sato more than Mohammed.

But I think Mohammed's appointment means there is still hope for Grisha, Sato, Charef, Bascunan, Conger and Karasev.
In my opinion NGA-ISL, BEL-TUN, ENG-PAN and JPN-SEN (maybe even KOR-MEX) all are matches, where they could be used.

    3. Let's see what plans FIFA has... France v Peru can be quite an intense game... FIFA is taking a risk as they did with Ramos in Brazil v Switzerland... I'm really not convinced, I hope Mohamed will prove me wrong!

    4. I must admit imInot familiar with this referee but Busacca And Collina must obviously have faith in him. Hopefully hellhdhe well!!

  2. Irmatov with Argentina at his first appearance means that this time the team in question wont be a problem for the Uzbek in case of good performance, he could be even appointed for the final, involving Argentina. So, everything is up to him. Given the first match he got, we are allowed to think he is strong candidate.

    1. Yes great appointment in an important game... I think Brych and Cakir/Kuipers for one of the Group E games!

      Delete
  3. So, Brych for BRA-CRC seems to be likely. SRB-SUI could be an alternative.

    1. I think Brazil v Costa Rica will suit Brych... I remember him doing well in Costa Rica v Uruguay in 2014... Serbia v Switzerland I think will go to one from Kuipers/Cakir/Marciniak

      Delete
    2. Germany v Sweden seems most likely for Milorad Mazic

    3. Serbia is group E
      Germany is group F
Teams from this two groups will play at 1/8 final. So, i think Brych and Mazic can't be appointed for matches in this two groups.

    4. Serbia v Switzerland will be very hot game. National relations between Serbs and some Switzerland players who are from Kosovo can be big problem. Imo in charge of this game will be Cakir or Kuipers. Maybe little suprise (Turpin) ?

    5. Turpin has Uruguay v Saudi Arabia tomorrow so no chance!

Mexico is Group F so will play someone from Group E in R16 but Cesar Ramos (Mexico) referees Brazil v Switzerland in Group E

Colombia is Group H so will play someone from Group G in R16 but Wilmar Roldan (Colombia) was the referee in Tunisia v England in Group G

So that's no problem at all!

    6. I forgot Turpin's appointment... Thanks.
      Very interesting. We will se.

    7. @Soham
Brych got 7.9 or above for URU-CRC 4 years ago if I remember well.
Also Russia-Belgium with at least one penalty missed. I'm sure this WC will be quite better for him

    8. I remember that Belgium v Russia wasn't good but I have forgotten about Costa Rica v Uruguay... I only remember that there was a straight red card in the later parts of the game!

  4. These refs have been appointed 4th official twice already. Does that mean they will not be the man in the middle for any game?
Bamlak Tessema Weyesa (ETH), John Pitti (PAN), Julio Bascuñan (CHI), Mehdi Abid Charef (ALG), Norbert Hauata (TAH), Ryūji Satō (JPN), Sergei Karasev (RUS)

    1. Very sad for Julio Bascunan and Ryuji Sato :(

    2. Tasos Sidiropoulos confirmed on an interview that from UEFA there are 9+1 referees.

So probably Karasev only as FO.

      Delete
    3. If FIFA doesn't appoint Karasev for a game as referee from the host country, something in positive has surely changed, and I'm convinced Collina played a role for that. Stop with geo-political appointments. Said with all the respect for Karasev, of course. But for sure he is already more than content to be there as fourth official.

      Delete
    4. @Chefren Karasev is too poor to whistle a game on the pitch... So appointment as 4th official is a huge achievement one can say! But the same time appointments such as Mohammed Abdullah Hasan Mohammed is highly questionable!

    5. Here, I don't want to talk and it would be unfair, of course, before watching him, because I never saw him.

      Delete
    6. The fact that you haven't seen him in any important match says about what his experiences leading into this tournament are! Risky appointment but I hope he does well! :)

    7. Don’t forget Matthew Conger (NZL)

  5. As much as I agree with you in regard to host country officials I would much rather see the best referees from around the world appointed regardless of quotas. Get the better referees from other continents refereeing across competitions outside if their own continent, test them adequately anf appoint the best, those on form. Give these guys the experience of refereeing different cultures from national league games, continental competitions and international games. Not just 1 competition in the run up to WC

    1. I agree with you that performance principle should always be on top. However, saying which continents are currently over-represented and which ones are under-represented is pretty easy but is subject to debate and surprise at every tournament. For instance, many of us pointed out that performances from Asian referees were not that good in the last FIFA tournaments, now we had great refereeeing within a few days from Faghani and Shukralla. And who would have guessed so-so performances by the CONCACAFs? Geiger was a surprise in 2014 and Rodriguez handled a semi.

  6. Irmatov is on paper a very good appointment for ARG-CRO. We'll see how things shake out on the pitch.

Mateu for DEN-AUS means Collina/Busacca are breaking Confed neutrality for second time. Totally avoidable.

  7. Goodness FIFA hates OFC don’t they. 23 matches to get an appointment. 1/2 a World Cup spot and 5 officials, they don’t give us much of a chance. Makes me a bit nervous for trying to get to a WC as a referee in the future.

    1. I am sorry but i think you can hardly expect more for a confederation that almost entirely deals with amateur football. I am not sure there are 20 professional players in OFC, all countries combined. Although i would also like for them to have guaranteed spot at WC. When it comes to refereeing, i remember at the last WC referee from New Zealand did a horrible job at Nigeria Bosnia game. This i think Conger is better ref than that guy. He will surely get at least one game and if he performes as i think he will maybe he can even get two games in group stage

  8. There's about 35 or so.

Nobody wants to help develop football down here, which is why its stagnant as it is.

Its interesting that although we've had VAR in the A-League for a while now, no AUS or NZL VARs are here

I will remind you of 2010. NZL was the only unbeaten team at that world cup. We showed that year that we can compete with the top sides (Italy Paraguay and Slovakia were in our pool)

    1. Yes, i remember. I really suported NZL at that WC. Also i remember great game they had against Mexico at the last Confederations cup and generally not to bad impresion from that match. But also on the other hand i remember Tahiti losing 11-0 to Spain and aggregate score of 9-3 for Mexico against Nzl for previous WC play off. My point is that i think that Oceania should have guarranted spot but also there is perception among many that it would mean giving secure spot to someone whose only purpose in the competition would be to build goal difference of other teams. And they think that best OFC team shuld first prove thet they are capable of competing on high level through intercontinental playoffs (like NZL did in 2010) and only then be able to compete in highest and biggest competition

      Delete
    2. *impression from that competition

      Delete
    3. Unfortunately I think it's a paradoxical question, there will be no interest if they don't attend the WC, but the increased interest generates the quality needed to attend a WC.

On a more positive note, Anne-Marie Keighley has attended some top class matches in Women's Football (CAN-SUI, ENG-JPN, USA-SWE), and surely is the most successful OFC referee of all time (?).

      Delete
    4. Yeah she has! I was hoping I would get put on a game with her or Nadia Browning in our National Womens League! That would have been so useful. No, but we do have some good FIFA badge referees coming through now here in NZL. CK (Campbell-Kirk Waugh, who is actually married to Anna Marie) is one of the new ones that I think we'll see up there in 2022. Maybe we'll see Nick Waldron again as a VAR. I've met Glen Lochrie a few times now and he's right up there in terms of NZ AR's so we are definitely not doing poorly down here. We just need to break through that barrier onto the world stage.

  10. HELLO VIEWERS

GET OUT OF FINANCIAL MESS WITH THE HELP OF drbenjaminfinance@gmail.com

I have been in financial mess for the past months, I’m a single mum with kids to look after. My name is REBECCA MICHAELSON, and am from Ridley Park, Pennsylvania. A couple of weeks ago My friend visited me and along our discussion she told me about DR BENJAMIN OWEN FINANCE of drbenjaminfinance@gmail.com that he can help me out of my financial situation, I never believed cause I have spend so much money on different loan lenders who did nothing other than running away with my money. She advised, I gave it a try because she and some of her colleagues were rescued too by this Godsent lender with loans to revive their dying businesses and paying off bills. so I mailed him and explain all about my financial situation and therefore took me through the loan process which was very brief and easy. After that my loan application worth $278,000.00USD was granted, all i did was to follow the processing and be cooperative and today I am a proud business owner sharing the testimony of God-sent Lender. You can as well reach him through the Company Email drbenjaminfinance@gmail.com

    THANK YOU VERY MUCH
